About....

Jorge Luis Teron is a former three time winner of the New York Golden Gloves tournaments which in itself is a statement that says everything you need to know about this man's ring pedigree. In a city like New York you have to be a very good fighter to succeed but Jorge is not only good he also has the potential to be great.

Making his professional debut back in 2005, Jorge set his sights on climbing the lightweight rankings going largely unnoticed along the way, winning bout after bout but that may all change in 2010 because within a few more fights he may be in contention for a world title fight which will obviously catapult him in to the public eye.

At the time of writing, his record stands at an impressive twenty three wins against one defeat and one draw, the only loss coming against Aldo Valtierra in which just five months later was overturned when Jorge won a wide ten round decision.

I personally am looking forward to seeing what impact Jorge as on the Lightweight division, and was fortunate enough last week to catch up with the man himself who took some time out of his busy schedule to talk to us here at TopClassBoxing.

Interview....

Favorite Car-

My favorite car at the moment is the Aston Martin DBS. It's a great car and I hope to one day own one.

Favorite Movie-

I have several favorite movies. If I had to choose one it probably be Brave Heart.

Favorite Food-

I don't have the best eating habits lol. I love Breyers Oreo ice cream.

Favorite Current Fighter-

I'd have to say that I'm my own favorite current fighter. I enjoy watching Pacquiao, Mayweather and Cotto amongst others.

Favorite Fighter of all time-

Ray Robinson is my opinion the fighter ever and he's definitely my all time favorite.

Favorite Fight of all time-

This is a tough one, it's a tie between The Thrilla in Manila and Corrales vs Castillo 1.

GENERAL QUESTIONS:

We interviewed you back in 2007 where at the time you had a record of 14-0-1. Back then I asked what was your biggest accomplishment and you stated that you hadn't done anything worth mentioning. Can you give us an answer now that you have a few more bouts under your belt?

My ultimate goal is to be world champion and I haven't accomplished that yet but I think it's an accomplishment in itself just to be living my childhood dream and boxing for a living.

For the unfortunate people who haven't seen you fight yet. Can you please describe your fighting style?

My fighting style varies depending on my opponent but I like to think of myself as a boxer. I can sometimes get away from just boxing and tend to brawl a little more than i should so it makes for exciting fights.

What would you say is your best punch?

I couldn't tell you. I think my straight right hand is but I've gotten more knockouts with my hook to the body.

I understand that your younger brother has entered the amateur ranks, How is he doing? What tips have you given him Jorge? because lets face it you had a great amateur background winning three consecutive New York Golden Gloves championship in two different weight divisions.

My younger brother Carlos has been boxing since he was 8 and he's 18 now so he has plenty of experience of his own. I'm always giving him tips on how he can get better and add to his skills. He's built exactly like me, same height and same weight so I think he has a great future ahead of him.

Can you tell us about your gym, what is the atmosphere like and what other professionals train there?

I train in Gleason's Gym in Brooklyn where there are many other pros training and the atmosphere is great. It's a big gym but everyone is like family.

Are you sill training with Mark Breland, and if so what changes has he made which as improved your skills in the ring?

I'm no longer with Mark. My trainer now Delen Parsley. Mark showed me a lot in the three we were together. The most important of which was how to use my height and jab. We still remain close friends.

Can you take us through a typical days training on the run up to a big fight?

A typical day always starts with a 6am run where I run between 4 and 5 miles. Then I go to the boxing gym in the afternoon and depending on the day of the week I'll either rest or go to strength training at night.

What would you say is your most rewarding win so far in your career and which did you find the most difficult?

The most rewarding win was definitely my last win back in may where i avenged my only loss. I knew i was a much better fighter then my opponent and I thought I won our first fight so it good to finally make right what i felt went wrong the time around.

You have the nickname "The Truth" how did that come about?

My manager Steven Heid came up with the name. He started calling me that late in my amateur career and it just stuck.

SPARRING:

You have trained with the likes of former WBO champion Zahir Raheem, Dimitry Salita and Edgar Santana. What was it like sparring and training with these guys and what have you taken from them experiences?

All three of guys are great fighters and I consider them friends as well. Those sessions definitely helped me develop a lot as a fighter.

PROFESSIONAL CAREER:

Last time out you overturned an earlier loss which witnessed you beat Aldo Valtierra via 10 round unanimous decision. Can you tell us what changes you made from the first fight and how the fight went?

I thought I won the first fight but it took me longer than expected to figure out his style and i gave away too many early rounds. In the rematch i made sure i got started early and made it a fast paced fight knowing that my older opponent couldn't fight at my pace.

Who's up next Jorge, Is there a major title down in the line in 2010?

I'm ranked 12th by the WBA right now and I hope to move up in the rankings after my next fight and hopefully fight for a title sometime in 2010.

POUND 4 POUND:

Who would you say is the current Pound 4 Pound king?

I always ask fellow professionals their opinions and it usually revolves around two fighters, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Who in your opinion sits at the top? I think until someone beats Mayweather he's still the best but I love watching Pacquiao fight and hope to see a Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight in 2010.

MANNY PACQUIAO V MIGUEL COTTO

There is an upcoming super fight on November which will pit Manny Pacquiao against Miguel Cotto. Who do you see winning that fight and how?

I'm torn between who I want to win which is Cotto and I think is going to win in Pacquiao I think Manny's speed will be too much for Cotto but I hope I'm wrong.

AMIR KHAN V DIMITRY SALITA:

A fighter that you have sparred with in the past Dimitry Salita is down to face WBA Light Welterweight champion Amir Khan on 5th December in Newcastle, United Kingdom. Knowing first hand what skills Salita possesses. How do you think that fight will unfold?

I sparred recently with Dimitry to help him get ready he seems focused and well prepared for the fight. I don't know how that fight will play out but i'll be rooting for Salita.

LIGHTWEIGHT DIVISION:

Your division is a stacked one at the moment with fighters such as Juan Manuel Marquez, Edwin Valero and Joan Guzman applying their trade, who do you think is the main man at the moment and why?

It's hard to argue with anyone of those fighters being the main man. They're all great fighters.

Can you give us your opinion on each of the following fighters:

Juan Manuel Marquez-

Great fighter. I consider myself a fan

Edwin Valero-

Very exciting to watch but still haven't seen enough to form a real opinion.

Joan Guzman-

I'm writing this from training camp in vegas where I'm helping Guzman get ready for his fight against Ali Funeka so I know first hand that he's a really good and really fast fighter who'll give anyone on this list a hard time.

Anthony Peterson-

I was in the amateurs with Anthony and have seen him fight many times. He's a really good fighter and his record speaks for itself.

Antonio DeMarco-

Just recently won the interim WBC belt but I wasn't that impressed. He's tough as nails but I don't believe he's in the same class as the others on this list.

What would be your dream fight at the moment Jorge?

Any fight that includes a world title.

FUTURE:

What are your plans for the rest 2009 going into 2010?

Hopefully to continue to move up in the rankings and fight for a world title.

On leaving is there anything you would like to say to the readers of TopClassBoxing?

I haven't been as busy as would have hoped in 2009 but I'm training harder than ever and hope to give the fans great fights in 2010

Thank you for your time Jorge. I really appreciate it. I know that you are a very very busy man but I cant thank you enough.

No problem. Thank you
