How are you? How training going? –

Torrence Daniels:

I'm wonderful, very happy and very blessed. Training is finally going the way we (Team Daniels) have been wanting it to go for the past 2 years. In the past it was very very hard for my trainer (2004 US Olympic Head Coach, Basheer Abdullah) to structure training because we never knew when we where going to fight. Now we have just signed a two year deal with Zeferino Entertainment and we now have a schedule. We are making our debut under the ZE banner on Oct 8th.

Who has been your hardest opponent so far in your career? –

Torrence Daniels:

Actually my toughest test today has been the business and political side of the sport. I started out on my own not knowing anything about the slick side of professional boxing. I just wanted to fight because I knew I had talent out of this world. My first adversity was in April on last year. I was very frustrated about not getting an opportunity to show my craft. It had been 9 months when I made my debut and during that 9 month period I had 22, count them 22 fights fall through the cracks on me. I took a fight on 10 hours notice. I had just finished sparring 8 solid rounds with former world champion Danny Romero when the call came in for the fight. I did a little quick research on my opponent and realized I could win this fight. So I agreed to fly out to Cali the next morning which was the actual day of the fight. Once in Cali I had to weigh in, do blood work, physicals, neuro phsycology test and all in the same day of the fight. Never getting a chance to recover from the flight. Got to the venue and laced the gloves up. Boxing beautifully, not getting touched and scoring at will for the first 2 rounds. Third round was a little closer but the last round I dominated the fight. countering every punch my opponent threw, hurting him 3/4 of the way through the last round. I knew I had won.... scores came in and I lost a Majority decision to the hometown boxer who had been promoted by the events promoter. BIGGEST LESSON EVER. Now I don't have to worry too much about that under the ZE banner.

Who is the man in your division? (except for you of course) –

Torrence Daniels:

Obviously it's Rafael Marquez at 118. But I hear he's moving up. Bantamweight is the weight I will compete at when it comes down to titles. Currently I'm fighting at 122 because there are more guys at 122-125 that I can fight at this stage of my career.

What is your biggest attribute in the ring e.g Speed, Power, Movement etc? –

Torrence Daniels:

I like to view myself as a total package fighter. My hand speed is phenomenal, but what good is speed if you don't have any defense and what good is defense if you have no power to make your opponents pay for missing you. So we work every aspect of the craft to the fullest. I have excellent defensive skills to go along with the speed and I have good power. The kind that you can't tell from the outside looking in but when you get hit with it, it opens your eyes. I also have a great variety of punches to choose from. I work well to the body and head. Probably my best attribute would be my mind. I'm a thinker, not so much that it takes away from my game, but enough to see what I have in front of me a react instinctively.

What has been your biggest accomplishment so far in your career? –

Torrence Daniels:

I have yet to get to where I want in the professional ranks. So as of now my biggest accomplishment has to be making it to the finals of the Olympic trials and being named the Alternate later that same year. Winning 6 national titles doesn't measure up to being about to represent you country in international events. Now I'm looking to be a world champion and nothing and no one will stand in my way of making that dream come true.

Who`s been the biggest influence in your career? –

Torrence Daniels:

Besides my wife and boys being my motivation to get out there of do what I do, I have to say my older brother is a big influence in my career. He started me boxing many years ago. I used to watch him fight in the Michigan Golden Gloves Tournaments and all I could think was WOW. He stopped boxing but always motivated me to continue. I see myself being him but on a much bigger stage and scale.

Who is the fighter that you looked up to has a kid? –

Torrence Daniels:

As a kid I loved to watch Sugar Ray Leonard. His graceful movement in the ring mesmerized me. I used to watch tapes of him then go out to my front yard and mimic what he did in the fights.

Who in the next year is the fighter you want to challenge most?

Torrence Daniels:

There are two fights I want. I want to avenge the 2 blemishes on my record. I know I could beat both of them and I'm set out to dominate them whenever I get that chance again.

What are your plans for 2007?
