PACQUIAO V HATTON PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES!!!

Thursday, April 30, 2009

MANNY PACQUIAO:

"I am ready for the fight on Saturday. I know Ricky Hatton has trained hard for this fight. I have seen it on 24/7. I respect Ricky Hatton. He is a good person. He is a nice guy and I would like to remind everyone that there is nothing personal for this fight and we are just doing our job to give a good fight to the people and make them happy. Specifically to the Filipino people who are looking for a victory on Saturday, I will do my best to bring honor to our country. I would like to especially like to thank my wife Jinkee and my Mom, who is here for the first time watching one of my fights live. My last fight was impressive, I won money."

RICKY HATTON

"I think you have all made your mind up already. I have been reading what you have been saying and what everyone has been saying. That doesn't scare me. I have been here before. I have been the underdog before. I hear what you say. 'He is an over-hyped, over-protected, fat beer drinking Englishman. Guess what...that "he" is going to shock the world again. It doesn't scare me being in this position. This is my weight division, but I understand that I am the underdog. I understand why people are picking on me especially since Manny Pacquiao is the number one pound for pound fighter in the world who just had an exceptional win over Oscar. They call this the Battle of East and West. And our worlds will collide in the ring on Saturday night."

FREDDIE ROACH, Pacquiao's Trainer

"I've got the best fighter. Manny is in the greatest shape of his life. I've been telling Manny all along that I will be disappointed if the fight goes longer than three rounds."

FLOYD MAYWEATHER SR, Hatton's Trainer

I am being for real and saying what I feel, This is the truest quote that I ever wrote, From the first to the last note, Hey Pac, its over, so quit wishing on a four leaf clover, You got a choice to make, You're at the cross roads, You gotta make up your mind, You can go right or you can go left, And you can't depend on nobody else, We need to do what we need to do it ain't personal between me and you, Come May 2nd, you will be uncrowned with your head hanging down, The pain and stress left to confess that the Hitman's the best, So lets make it simple and plain after this fight, Pac will never be the same, It aint no diggity it aint no doubt, Pac's gonna find out what its all about, When he beat the ole legend Oscar de la Hoya, He was over the hill, Now its time for you to swallow the same damn pill,
So get your tickets now peoples-and lets make it clear, That the Pacman ass woopin is almost here, It aint no secret and I hope you know, The Hitman Hatton by KO!

BOB ARUM, Chairman of Top Rank Inc.

"You're going to find that our camp is a little more restrained. Just remember, Freddie Roach, Manny's trainer, is training the future president of the Philippines.

"He (Roach) is the best trainer in the sport of boxing, more than just that, there has to be a great bond between a trainer and fighter and that is not something that comes into effect with one training period. It is built up over the years as they go into battle together time after time after time. People wonder why this fight is becoming the success that it is. I think there is one reason that has made this the event that it is and that is that people have learned about Manny Pacquiao.

"The Philippines has the best social welfare system in the world and it is called Manny Pacquiao."

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, President of Golden Boy Promotions

"Ricky Hatton against Manny Pacquiao; I know for a fact this fight is going to exceed all expectations.

"I have talked to people all over the country and the fact is that people want to watch this fight not because of the fighters' abilities, not because they can fight and have come to give fans an exciting fight, but because of respect. People respect what Pacquiao and Hatton can do in the ring.

"That's why people are going to watch this fight, because they respect both of these fighters and they know they are going to see a great great match.

"We are very proud to be a part of such a mega event that is not just big in the Philippines, not just big in Manchester, but big all around the world."

WBC STRIPS BRADLEY OF HIS TITLE!!!

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

Timothy "Desert Storm" Bradley has officially been stripped of his WBC title after refusing to fight his mandatory challenger Devon Alexander.

Bradley still holds the WBO title he took from Kendall Holt a few weeks ago but his representatives told WBC president Jose Sulaiman the reason for not fighting Alexander was that Showtime wasn't interested in staging the fight which made it difficult.

The sanctioning body has now ordered the two highest contenders to begin negotiations for the vacant title. Devon Alexander is currently occupying the number one position while Junior Witter sits at number two. They have until May 21st to reach a deal.

HATTON: I`M TOO BIG FOR MANNY

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

Ricky Hatton says he will be too Big and too Strong for Manny Pacquiao come Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

"Size is going to be a big factor, strength is going to be a big factor - when I stand next to Manny I can see it (my advantage) physically," Hatton said. "I'm hoping it's going to scare the life out of him, he's only had two fights above 130lbs.

"I understand I'm the underdog, he's the best pound-for-pound fighter and it's a new level for me. But it's also a new level for him, he's fighting a very big, strong man who is going to be all over him. He hasn't faced anyone as big, strong and with the style of Ricky Hatton.

"One thing that comes to mind when you think of Ricky Hatton is 'an absolute handful' - let's see if he can deal with it."

FORMER HEAVYWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION GREG PAGE DIES AGED 50!!!

Monday, April 27, 2009

Former Heavyweight world champion Greg Page has died at his hime in Louisville. Payne has been in a wheelchair since suffering brain damage in a bout in 2001.

His wife, Patricia Page, says she found her husband in bed Monday morning and that he died of complications related to injuries he suffered in the fight of 2001. He was 50 years old.

Page told The Associated Press her husband "is in a better place now."

The March 9, 2001, fight against Dale Crowe in northern Kentucky left Page in a coma for nearly a week.

He then had a stroke during post-fight surgery, and was paralyzed on his left side and received intensive physical therapy.

Patricia Page says funeral arrangements were pending.

JOE HAS NO INTEREST IN FROCH BOUT!!!

Monday, April 27, 2009

Calzaghe not Impressed with Froch!!!Enzo Calzaghe told reporters today that his son Joe Calzaghe would rather appear on Strictly Come Dancing than come out of retirement to fight Carl Froch.

WBC super-middleweight champion Carl Froch has been calling out Joe Calzaghe for a few years now and after he stopped the American Jermain Taylor on Saturday he was quick to send a message to Calzaghe telling onlooking camera's "Give the Fans What they Want", but Joe it seems still hasnt taken the bait and his Father / trainer Enzo Calzaghe remarked on Froch's performance saying "What I saw on Saturday night was appalling – the worst performance by a world champion, he looked like an amateur. There were so many mistakes, Jermain Taylor didn't have to block because Froch was just jabbing his hand. It was pathetic, an amateur could have done better,"

Froch defeated Jean Pascal in December to claim the WBC title that Calzaghe vacated when he moved up to light-heavyweight and Enzo was dismissive of the Nottingham fighter's credentials.

"He [Froch] claims he is the best super-middleweight in the world, but he could barely put away Jermain Taylor," said Enzo. "Taylor was tiring in the last round and that's why Froch won – would that have happened against Kessler, Jones, Hopkins? It was a very poor, poor performance. He didn't keep his hands up, he missed shots and he couldn't even move his head from side to side."

Yesterday his father claimed that his position had hardened and there would be no 47th fight in Joe's career: "He's happy with what he has achieved. I wouldn't allow Joe to come back, even if he had any interest, but he doesn't. He is happy with what he has achieved and he is satisfied. He retired as the best – 46–0, no chance."

LOPEZ STOPS PENALOSA IN A BRUTAL WAR!!!

Sunday, April 26, 2009

WBO junior featherweight champion Juan Manuel ‘Juanma’ Lopez (25-0, 23 KOs) scored an amazing ninth round TKO over WBO bantamweight champion Gerry Penalosa (54-7-2, 36 KOs) on Saturday night at the Coliseo Rubén Rodríguez in Bayamón, Puerto Rico.

Lopez put on a power punching display that the tough Penalosa just didnt have the answers to. Penalosa showed incredible courage to keep going but the decision was taken out of his hands in the ninth round where his trainer Freddy Roach decided enough was enough and called a halt to proceedings in between rounds nine and ten. With this win Lopez has now scored 13 consecutive knockouts.

POST FIGHT COMMENTS

Juan Manuel Lopez: Penalosa is a very tough fighter as I fully expected him to be. This was a very hard earned victory. My promoters will decide what is next for me and I will be ready for whoever they put in front of me.

Gerry Penalosa: I gave my absolute best tonight. Lopez was the better man tonight and I congratulate him.

Freddie Roach: I thought Lopez would slow down after the 4th round since he threw so many punches but he didn’t. I had told Gerry going into the 9th round that if he wasn’t able to hurt Lopez then I was going to stop the fight because he needed to hurt him or knock Lopez out at that point. Lopez I think is the best fighter at 122 pounds.

FROCH KOs TAYLOR IN TWELVE!!!

Sunday, April 26, 2009

WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (25-0, 20 KOs) scored a massive come from behind TKO stoppage over former middleweight champion Jermain Taylor (28-3-1, 17 KOs) in the twelfth round to retain his title on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Arena inside of the MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Mashantucket, CT.

Taylor started the better and had Froch down in the third round from an overhand right, Froch showed heart in getting to his feet and evaded most of the attack of Taylor to see out the round. Froch kept his hands down by his waist the entire fight and used his reflexes to defend against Taylor, Jermain seemed to had found a home for his jab as he effectively countered Froch with ease. Towards the later third of the bout Taylor began to tire while Froch was able to come forward looking the stronger fighter. In the 12th round Froch came out with the words from his trainer ringing in his head and it must have done the trick as Froch was able to come out and land a big right that put Taylor down on the canvas. Taylor rose to his feet but was visibly hurt. HARRISON ARRESTED IN SPAIN!!!

Friday, April 24, 2009

Former World champion Scott Harrison was detained by officers from the country's National Police as he touched down at Malaga Airport on Thursday night on a flight from Glasgow.

He is now expected to stand trial in a Spanish court on the assault and robbery charges from 2006. The former WBO featherweight champion spent time behind bars in Spain almost three years ago after being accused of the offences, which include an assault on a police officer. He was released on bail to return to the UK after five weeks and has not yet been called to account over the allegations.

A judge reportedly issued a fresh arrest order over the claims last month.

Harrison arrived in Malaga on Thursday night with his father Peter, mother Agnes and girlfriend Stacey Gardner.

Passengers described being asked to stay seated as Harrison was taken off and arrested.

A National Police spokeswoman confirmed Harrison was arrested. "I can confirm that they arrested him yesterday," she said. "They arrested him when he arrived at Malaga Airport from Glasgow."

The spokeswoman added that it is likely he will face trial soon.

HATTON: TEAM PACQUIAO IN FOR A SHOCK!!!

Friday, April 24, 2009

CASTILLO GETS HURT BY A BODY SHOT!!!Ricky Hatton says Manny Pacquiao's camp are underestimating him ahead of the big May 2 showdown.

He said: "A lot of people say I've struggled against southpaws. I'm only putting that down to the fact that against Luis Collazo it was a very tought fight but it was up at 147. Stand Collazo next to Manny Pacquiao - he was a big fast southpaw. If you stood him next to Manny it would be like David and Goliath to be honest. If that's struggling I'd say more of a weight than southpaw.

"And against Juan Urango it wasn't one of my best performances but if anybody remembers that fight, I came down with a virus before the fight. I was boxing the ears off him for six or seven rounds and then due to the illness I blew up and made it heavy weather.

"I just think the Pacquiao people have underestimated me full stop. If they think I struggle with southpaws, and they think Manny's going to knock me out in three rounds, brilliant. Bring it on. I think against Kostya Tszyu I started a 7-1 underdog.

"Just because Bob Arum says I struggle with southpaws, don't expect me to s**t myself. I know what I'm doing, I know what I'm capable of and there's no doubt in my mind what's going to happen on May 2.

"But saying is one thing, doing is another. But me Floyd, my camp, is very positvive. It is clutching at straws a little bit. Bob's probably hoping I struggle with southpaws rather than the true fact that I struggled with Collazo because he's a 147 fighter."

The war of words between Roach and Hatton's trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr has been the most entertaining sub-plot to a bout that has captivated the boxing world.

But while much of the hyperbole from the men in the corners washes over Hatton, he says some of it gives him extra confidence.

"I don't pay much attention to it and I'm not really bothered by it. Little things I do pay attention to. Floyd is a talker, Freddie not so much. Seems like Freddie has done more talking in this fight that any other. Maybe when you start acting a little bit out of character. Maybe he's not quite as confident as he says.

"He says Manny will win in three rounds. Maybe he's taken the bait from Floyd - I can't answer that. I don't doubt that Floyd respects Freddie - all it is is just Floyd being Floyd. I don't know if Freddie's taken it to heart. Freddie seems to have reacted to it. I let Floyd do the talking - I just know what I'm capable of doing. I'm a student of boxing, I know styles, I know games. I just feel really really confident about this fight.

"A lot of people will see what Floyd is saying as trash talk. He told me that he wouldn't publicly stick his neck on the line unless he firmly believed I could back it up. It's not my game, it's not Manny's game. Ultimately I believe the best man will win the fight. And I believe I'm the best man."

JUAN MANUEL LOPEZ V GERRY PENALOSA PREDICTIONS!!!

Thursday, April 23, 2009

We have two massive fights happening this weekend which gave me a bit of a situation on which to feature as my main focus for the prediction part of our site. Apart from the fascinating matchup between Super Middleweight’s WBC champ Carl Froch who goes head to head with former Middleweight king Jermain Taylor we also get to witness  WBO Super bantamweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (24-0-0, 22 KO’s) face his sternest test to date when he steps back into the ring to face former Super flyweight king Gerry Penalosa (54-6-2, 36 KO’s).

Seeing many sites on the web focusing their attention on what they perceive as the bigger fight  between Carl froch and Jermain Taylor I thought I would try to break away and produce something a bit different and went on to use Juan Manuel Lopez v Gerry Penalosa as my featured fight to give you the fight fans something different to view. And this fight promises to be an absolute cracker.

This fight will see two of the divisions best fighters go head to head in an eagerly anticipated bout which fight fans around the world have called for since Juanma dethroned former champion Ponce De Leon in June 2008. Both fighters are coming into this fight full of confidence with Lopez telling various reporters that he intends to be the first man to stop Penalosa, but world renowned trainer Freddy Roach and Penalosa himself didn’t buy into the mind tricks while saying he was in for a surprise come April 25th (This Saturday).

As well as this mouth watering match up we are being spoilt this weekend because as reported earlier WBC Super Middleweight champ Carl Froch goes stateside to defend his title against former Middleweight king Jermain Taylor, trust me this is another fight you wouldn't want to miss. So get your beers ready and put your feet up and watch some awesome boxing.

TRINIDAD V HOPKINS II FOR NOVEMBER???

Thursday, April 23, 2009

Former world champion Félix ‘Tito’ Trinidad and promoter Don King had a meeting in the Hotel Ritz Carlton of Isla Verde, Puerto Rico to try to set up a rematch between Trinidad and Bernard Hopkins.

Trinidad, now 36, suffered his first defeat against Hopkins, now 44, in 2001. Sources assure that Don King and Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer are near an agreement for a fight in November. Trinidad needs to train for five or six months.

rOACH: DONT BUY INTO HATTON'S SIZE ADVANTAGE!!!

Thursday, April 23, 2009

Ricky Hatton must prepare to face a complete fighter when he steps into a Las Vegas ring on May 2 to face Manny Pacquiao, according to the Filipino's trainer Freddie Roach.

"We've been working on that a long time and it's finally coming into play," said Roach. "He's boxing a lot smarter now.

"It started with the Diaz fight where he boxed a beautiful fight. His defence is much better, the Oscar fight was similar and the way things are going, the Hatton fight will be the same."

Roach also said he did not buy into the perception that Hatton had a size and strength advantage over Pacquiao.

"I disagree," he added. "Manny's really settled in the 140-pound weight division, he's really getting used to the weight and he's knocked out four sparring partners out of seven and in training camp he's been looking very strong.

"Ricky will be a little heavier by fight time but being heavier really doesn't make you stronger. I know I have the stronger fighter going into the fight, I guarantee that."

Mayweather Sr, however, believes his man is also fast improving and Roach is giving his man some futile advice.

"The name of the game is hit and don't be hit and that's what I've been getting Ricky to do and he's most definitely going to perfect that," Mayweather said.

"I heard Freddie Roach saying on TV (to Pacquiao) 'don't let him hit your body, don't let him hit your body.'

"Of course he's going to hit his body, it's just a matter of time. We've got 12 rounds in this fight and he's not going 12 rounds without his body being hit."

VISA KO'S KOTELNIK!!!

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

VISA KO'S KOTELNIK!!!Frank Warren today blasted the United Kingdom's entry policy after Andreas Kotelnik could not obtain a visa in time to promote his forthcoming world title fight with Amir Khan at London's O2 Arena.

Warren claimed it would be easier for an illegal immigrant to reach these shores and claim benefits than for a world champion sportsman who has already fought in Britain three times before.

"It is easy to come into the country if you haven't got a visa and you haven't got a passport. It is the easy way to get in. You get a flat, sign on and do what you like. But if you are a sportsman and a world champion it is more difficult," said promoter Warren.

"The whole process is ridiculous. This night (of boxing) will create work for people in this country. It is great for the country. It is a high-profile event being shown around the world. What are we in this position for?

"I appreciate the efforts Richard has gone to. I am very, very disappointed and quite angry about it. I shouldn't think he is a threat to national security."

Kotelnik will, however, pose a significant danger to Khan, who is stepping up to light-welterweight for his first world title shot just seven months after suffering a first-round defeat to Breidis Prescott.

Stuck in Dusseldorf, Kotelnik sent his own strongly-worded views both on the British embassy's efforts - "there was no co-operation and I was handled like s***" - and of Khan Kotelnik added "I will knock Amir Khan out on June 27 as I am so annoyed right now,"

"Khan is a good ambitious fighter. Like me he won a silver medal at the Olympics and we were beaten by the great Mario Kindelan. But that is where the similarity ends. I am a world champion and I will show my class against this child."

Khan told reporters that he felt a changed fighter since his loss to Breidis Prescott "So much has changed from that defeat. I changed from a boy into a man," said Khan, who will face Kotelnik for the world title in only his 22nd professional fight.

"There were times when I would just go in the ring and fight but the Prescott defeat taught me in the right way. If I had gone into that fight and boxed with my mind it would have been a different night. Things happen for a reason. I have changed so much since that defeat. I am now in LA (working with trainer Freddie Roach) and a world title shot has come along.

"I fought Oisin Fagan and then beat Marco Antonio Barrera. People said Barrera got cut but I always knew I had the skills to beat him."

Khan the commented on his future match up with Andreas Kotelnik saying "I am confident I can do a job on him, I have got fast feet and fast hands and if I box him cleverly, I think I can make it an easy night and a night I can become world champion.

"The Olympics have been the biggest thing for me up until now - but this would be bigger. When I was a kid I always wanted to be a world champion. I watched Ali, Prince Naseem Hamed, Ricky Hatton win world titles and I wanted to achieve what they achieved."

RICKY READY FOR THE PACMAN SPEED TEST!!!

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

Ricky Hatton says Manny Pacquiao's speed won't be enough on May 2nd in Las Vegas.

He said: "Most people are looking at the fight as power and strength versus speed, but I don't see it that way. I'm not looking at it that way. I am the bigger man and I am the stronger man and I am the harder hitter, not to be disrespectful of Manny's punching power - he can knock anybody out. But I think I do have the advantage in that.

"But also I think my speed is underestimated. A lot of people thought Paulie Malignaggi would outspeed me and it was the opposite. Now I've had a longer training camp and I believe I'm even faster now."

"You can have the fastest hands in the world but if you don't throw them at the right time you don't get the desired effect. I think it's all about timing, making your opponent miss. One thing I've always been is very fast, very explosive and very quick to move in on my opponents. Kostya Tszyu tried to keep the fight at distance but he couldn't hold me off him, although Manny is quicker. As fast as Manny moves back I believe I'll be able to move in just as quick."

"I've got fast hands myself now, along with the power and the pressure, and there's no reason I shouldn't be confident of winning this fight," he said.

"But I am aware of the dangers - if Manny wins this fight, Ricky Hatton will be the first to walk over and shake his hand. But I just think I've got too much in my armoury now."

VERBAL ASSAULT CONTINUE FROM KLITCHKO AND HAYE!!!

Tuesday, April 21, 2009

WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and former WBC/WBA/WBO cruiserweight champion David Haye continued their bitter feud at a press conference in London.

Haye again turned up at the press conference with a T-shirt showing an image where he holds the severed heads of both Klitschko Brothers.

Wladimir Klitschko: "When he tried to get this fight, the picture with my decapitated body was certainly below the belt but I swallowed it. But now he has the fight and I can’t understand why he continues these tricks. What example does it give children? This is shameful behaviour and I can’t understand it.

I chose David Haye not David Haye chose me. I have had three title defenses and I took this boy. Right now I see David Haye with a cut head of my brother (on a T-shirt). So I am asking what is going to be next? Are you going to cut my dad’s head or my mother’s head? Other family members? Maybe you will attack my religion, my race? This is over the edge. This is not about sport.

You listen to what I say, this guy is going to be punished. I will transform this person into a pizza face for 12 rounds, and in the 12th round I am going to knock him out. He will pay for it with pain in the ring, and after the fight at the press conference I’ll remind him of his words, and he will take back all the words and will apologize. I’m not going to use my energy on trash talk, it’s embarrassing. It casts a shadow on the sport."

David Haye: “I’ve received the reaction I wanted from him…All the shouting and screaming is necessary because people have to hear about the fight. I don’t care about good taste and I know some people may hate me. I’ll do what I have to do, including these silly little stunts. As long as people remember me as the best fighter in the world with bad taste I don’t care. In twenty years nobody will remember my T-shirt, everyone will remember that day when I knocked out Wladimir Klitschko.

“He doesn’t go in the ring to fight. He doesn’t give value for money. He’s embarrassing, everything he does in the ring is embarrassing. I want him to fight like a man, not run like a bitch. Stand and fight me Vladimir Bitchko! I’m going to smash his head in and he will be bleeding on the floor.

“He’s a big dude, has a decent jab and has a lot of physical tools but I will turn them against him. His jab, jab, grab tactics that he has been doing throughout his career, it’s not impressive, it won’t work against me. I will make him fight and he is a fighter who doesn’t like to fight.

“It’s going to be a changing of the guard on June 20…I’m faster and hungrier than any of the bums he has fought before. It will be a rude awakening for him. He will have to do the fight of his life or he’ll be leaving the ring on a stretcher.”

KIRKLAND ARRESTED ON WEAPON CHARGES!!!

Tuesday, April 21, 2009

Red hot Prospect James Kirkland was arrested on a weapons charge Sunday.

The Junior middleweight was scheduled to fight Michael Walker in a 10-round bout on May 2nd as the the undercard to Ricky Hatton-Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas, .

Kirkland, 25, who is on probation for a 2003 armed robbery that cost him 2½ years of his career, was arrested during a traffic stop in his hometown of Austin, Texas, and booked Sunday afternoon. He was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, according to the Travis County Sherriff's Department Web site.

Whether Kirkland (25-0, 22 KOs) will be available to fight May 2 is still unclear.

"It appears that James is the victim of circumstance and we're waiting for the facts to come in before we make any comment," Cameron Dunkin, Kirkland's co-manager, told ESPN.com.

WARREN NOT TOO IMPRESSED WITH THE GOLDENBOY!!!

Monday, April 20, 2009

Boxing promoter Frank Warren has described former champion boxer Oscar De La Hoya as "good, but not great".

De La Hoya, who won a boxing gold medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, recently announced his retirement after 17 years in the ring as a pro.

'The Golden Boy' won ten world titles at six different weight classes, defeated 17 world champions and generated more money than any other boxer in the history of the sport but Warren says that there were greater boxers than him.

"While the Golden Boy was Mr Box Office, he doesn’t compare in terms of quality to the golden era of Hagler, Hearns, Duran and Leonard," Warren said on his official website. "Had he boxed when they were around, I think he would have struggled.

"They say that you are only as good as the fighters put in front of you and De La Hoya lost too many big fights to be a legend. In his last 14 contests, he was 8-6, and in his last seven he won only three."

De La Hoya’s final fight was a loss to world pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao who highlighted a gulf in class between the two boxers, signalling the end was close for Ring Magazine’s 1995 'Fighter of the Year'.

"Although he only lost to the best – Floyd Mayweather, Felix Trinidad, Manny Pacquiao, Bernard Hopkins and Shane Mosley – great fighters find a way of turning potential 'Ls' into 'Ws'," Warren added.

ARUM: PACQUIAO ALWAYS SHOULD GETS LION SHARE OF THE PURSE!!!

Monday, April 20, 2009

Bob Arum has Issued a warning to any big named fighter looking to cash in on a match up with Pound 4 Pound king Manny Pacquiao. Top Rank supremo Arum said that any fighter looking for Manny will have to take the short end of the purse.

Former Pound 4 Pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr has suggested he should get 60% of the purse if the two meet but his former promoter gives this short shrift.

“far and away the biggest attraction in boxing. So when he said a while ago that with Hatton he wanted the lion’s share and people said he was being greedy. No he wasn’t being greedy, he was right.”

“He takes a much smaller percentage," Arum said. "Everybody else who fights Pacquiao now has to be treated like he was, as an opponent of the former great attraction Oscar De La Hoya. That means the opponent should be happy to get a maximum of 35 percent and Manny gets the 65 percent,”

Back to the matter of hand and Pacquiao's upcoming fight with Hatton, Arum believes his man is better in all departments than he was six months ago when he beat De La Hoya.

"He is faster, he’s smarter and he has all of the attributes,” Arum said.

“What’s Manny’s strength? It's his speed. So if he fights the fight capitalizing on his strength which is his speed there is no way Hatton can beat him."

Arum claims that Top Rank matchmaker Bruce Trampler told him that he is handling sparring partners Urbano Antillon, Mike Alvarado and Raymund Serrano (no mention of Amir Khan) "like babies."

Arum went on: “You now can't see his hands, he is so fast.

"He throws them so quickly you can’t see the punches and this time he is in with main event fighters."

CLEVERLY IN LINE FOR BRITISH TITLE!!!

Friday, April 17, 2009

Nathan Cleverly is set to face Danny McIntosh for the British light-heavyweight title that has been vacated by Dean Francis.

Unbeaten Cefn Fforest fighter Cleverly already holds the Commonwealth crown and, at 22, is regarded as one of the hottest prospects in British boxing.

He has won all 15 of his fights, five of the victories by knock-out.

Norwich's McIntosh, 29, has only had 10 professional fights, but, like Cleverly, he boasts a 100% record.

The bout could go on the undercard of Amir Khan's challenge for Andreas Kotelnik's WBA light-welterweight title on 27 June.

Cleverly has long held Francis in his sights, but the Bristol-based fighter is looking to campaign at cruiserweight after difficulty boiling down to the light-heavyweight limit.

YURIORKIS GAMBOA

“Fighting for a world title in my 15th fight is very exciting, but I always had a dream, a goal, to fight for the title within two years of turning pro and it is almost two years exactly.

“I am very hungry for the belt. I’ve seen tapes of Rojas and know he is a veteran with a lot of experience. He has fought tough fighters. He is not coming here to lose. So there is no way I will look past him.

“But I am confident and extremely prepared. It could be an easy fight, or a difficult one. But a fight is a fight and I will try and finish him as fast as I can. I feel I am too fast and explosive for him.

“That he’s a left-hander doesn’t bother me at all. I had so many amateur fights. I have fought all sorts of fighters with all different styles.

“Expectations of me are very high, I understand that. So, yes, there is definitely pressure. But it is the kind of pressure that is almost an honor for me to have. I will give my best and try to live up or exceed what people already think of me. I know I have to prove myself.

“Since hooking up with trainer Ismael Salas, I feel I am much improved. He is one of the top trainers in the world and he has really helped me learn and understand the pro game.

“I know I hold my hands low – everybody knows that – but we continue to work on that. It’s just a bad habit I need to get rid of. Nobody likes to get knocked down but, bottom line is, I keep getting back up.

“I want to fight the best there is at 126 pounds. I am willing to fight any of the current world champions. This is a great opportunity for me. I am looking forward to winning the title on SHOWTIME.’’

JOSE ROJAS

“I am not here to be a stepping stone for anybody. I am happy to get another shot at the world title and I want to win it.

“I’ve never seen a tape of Gamboa. Nor do I care to. There is no way to compare him to the other fighters I’ve fought. He’s just coming up. Let’s see how he does on Friday. Then, maybe, I will have an opinion.’’

SELCUK AYDIN

“I plan to walk through this guy and knock him out. I want to put on a good show for the fans on SHOWTIME and in America.

“I’ve seen a couple of tapes of Ouali. But I never think too much about my opponents. It is all about me and my training. If my training is good, which it has been, I’m fine. I’m more focused and disciplined than ever.

“I had 380 amateur fights so I will be prepared for whatever he brings. I have never been knocked down as a pro or amateur. I’ve never been cut or really hurt.

“I hope he comes to fight and doesn’t just run or try and survive. I am willing to fight any of the fighters ahead of me in the rankings.

“I will do whatever it takes to get the world title.’’

SAID QUALI

“I have way too many skills for this guy. In fact, I’ve seen his fights and he has no skills. This may be an easy fight, although I didn’t prepare or train for one.

“Aydin is just aggressive. That’s it. He has short arms. I will own a big edge in reach and I will take advantage of that. I know I can outbox him, but I can probably outpunch him, too.

“He’s going to try and get inside, but if he gets too close I will make him pay big time. I’ll get his respect early, you can count on that.

“He’s never fought a fighter like me and it will show on Friday night.’’

TCB'S WEEKEND PREDICTIONS!!!

Friday, April 17, 2009

Cuban featherweight Yuriorkis "El Ciclon de Guantánamo" Gamboa 14-0, 12 KO’s will be going for his first major world title this weekend which will see him go head to head for the interim WBA World featherweight title against the always tough and durable Venezuelan Jose Rojas 25-6-1, 17 KO's.

It will be nearly two years since the impressive Cuban made his debut which was on the 27th April 2007 and since that time he has blasted through the field of fourteen opponents only two of them actually making it to the final bell which has given him a knockout ratio of 85.71%. This is some achievement and is testament to the abundance of skill's Yuriorkis has to offer. From what I have written I know it is kind of hard to see where Gamboa can lose but his defence is very leaky which has resulted in "El Ciclon de Guantánamo" being put to the canvas on three separate occasions so you see how fascinating this bout becomes.

Jose “Cheo” Rojas will not be coming here to make up the numbers and will enter the fight with the greater experience of the two men, Jose has been in with a whole host of world champions such as Chris John x 2 and current WBA / IBF Super World super bantamweight champion Celeste Caballero to name a few. He goes about his business in a workmanlike way and is always ready to stand toe to toe with the best the division as to offer this is not a fight to be missed.

Also making an appearance this weekend is Selcuk Aydin 17-0-0 14 KO's, the man known to many as "Mini-Tyson" due to his aggressive style mixed with the fact he owns a knockout ratio of 82.35%. He will be going toe to toe with a decent opponent in Said Ouali 25-2-0, 17 KO's.

Plus there is much much more on a awesome weekend of boxing.

KLITCHKO FURIOUS WITH HAYE OVER GORY T-SHIRT!!!

Thursday, April 16, 2009

David Haye (22-1, 21 KOs) may have over stepped the mark. Haye entered a press conference wearing a hand-made T-shirt which depicted him stood over the bodies of Wlad and his brother Vitali, with each of their heads in his hands.

"I wanted him to see it face to face. " said Haye defiantly. " I am coming here to shock the world... I am not coming over to pick up a pay cheque like the rest of Wladimir's opponents. On June 20, people will realise that I am the real deal. This is the fight the whole world wants to see. This is one of the biggest fights of all time.

"With all the great heavyweight fights, I am going to take this to a whole new stratosphere. You are going to see something special - you are going to see the beginning of a legend. It is time to go to war. I will dispose of the whole Klitschko family. First I will take care of Wladimir and then I will take care of Vitali."

Wladmir Klitschko (52-3, 46 KOs) was not at all happy with Haye actions and told reporters "I think it is terrible and he will get punished for it. I do not agree with the things he has been doing, like coming here with this T-shirt. That simply is not right. It is very cheeky. He is a young man who cannot control his emotions. I will teach him a lesson and show him how to deal with it. I can best do it in the ring." he said sternly.

"I thought I would knock him out in the first round but then I thought better of it. I will make it a long and painful process. I will not knock him out before the 12th round. I will enjoy the process, it will be fun."

Then Wladmir turned away from the media and addressed a message to Haye "David, you are just a trash talker, stay up until the 12th round until I will knock you out."

Haye replied with "This will be Wladimir Klitschko's last fight. He will retire after I have beaten him to bits. Now it is time to go to war. I have seen Wladimir fight dozens of time and I am not impressed at all. He comes out and all he does is jab. It's jab, jab, jab, grab." he said, poking fun at Wlad's often criticised style of controlling his opponents.

"The guys he has been fighting have been over the hill. They have been so old. They have just fallen down. He has never been tested. I will knock him out and then take out his brother." Haye concluded.

PACQUIAO: dE LA HOYA IS MY IDOL!!!

Thursday, April 16, 2009

Pacquiao: De La Hoya still my Idol!!!Manny Pacquiao yesterday paid a big tribute to the Goldenboy Oscar De La Hoya, revealing the 'Golden Boy' is still his idol despite forcing him into retirement after he dismantled him last June in eight ferocious rounds.

Pacquiao said he thought it was a 'good decision'. 'Whatever happens people won't forget him as a good fighter, as a best fighter in the world. For me he's still my idol,'

When asked about his preparations are going Pacqaio said 'Right now we're in heavy training and I'm in 100% good condition,' although he admitted Hatton would be one of the toughest boxers he had faced in his career. 'He's a strong fighter and he's a good fighter too and he's a champion, so I don't want to underestimate him.'

But Pacquiao, 30, said the Briton's weaknesses included his 'body punch', saying: 'He doesn't like to hit the body. I won't tell you the other things!'

Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach spoke confidently about the fight, saying: 'Manny has speed, power, boxing ability - so I think he will overwhelm Ricky in this fight.'

But he warned: 'Ricky's a tough guy, no doubt about that. He's very resilient; he's tough. He comes to fight. One thing we know is there will be a fight for sure.'

VALERO V PRESCOTT BOUT NEARING COMPLETION!!!

Thursday, April 16, 2009

Newly crowned WBC lightweight champion Edwin Valero (25-0, 25 KOs) and Breidis Prescott (21-0, 18 KOs) are nearing an agreement which would see two of the best punchers in boxing go head to head in an exciting war to be held in Mexico on July 25th.

Valero, 27, defeated 39-year-old Antonio Pitalua in a 2nd round TKO on April 4th in Austin, Texas to capture the vacant WBC title. Valero is a power puncher with dynamite in both hands he holds a decent defence but you know what they say the best form of defence is attack and that's what he does best. Also to note is the fact the Venezuelan power puncher holds a knockout percentage of 100%.

Prescott, 25, is a well known figure amongst the British fight fans due to his September annihilation of Amir Khan. in the bout the British Golden boy was knocked out in just one round from a series of massive blows which left Khan on the canvas looking up at the lights. Breidis is a very aggressive power puncher who always looks to end bouts early. The Colombian hold an impressive knockout ratio of 85%.

The bout is thought to be a co-feature to the undefeated light middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (39-0-1, 29 KOs) who's opponent is yet to be named.

JUNIOR WITTER: KOTELNIK WILL KO KHAN!!!

Wednesday, April 15, 2009

Witter fears for Khan!!!Former world champion Junior Witter recons Amir Khan may have bitten off more than he can chew as he goes up in weight to challenge WBA champ Andreas Kotelnik at London's O2 Arena on June 27.

"I think he'll get beat quite convincingly" Witter told reporters yesterday "It'd be good for British boxing if he can do it. But he's been knocked out by a decent puncher [Breidis Prescott] at lightweight and now he's moving up to light-welter, where people are bigger and hit harder."

Witter knows Kotelnik better than most having beaten the Ukrainian in 2005.

He added: "Kotelnik is not a one-punch specialist but he's very accurate and is good at his job. He studies opponents, finds weaknesses and tries to exploit it. I think he'll have difficulty for the first three rounds getting to Khan. But Khan's weak spot is his chin and I can see Kotelnik knocking him out somewhere around the middle of the fight."

FURY THINKS HAYE HAS NO CHIN WHATSOEVER!!!

Wednesday, April 15, 2009

British heavyweight prospect Tyson Fury fears David Haye will be "exposed" when he steps up to challenge IBF and WBO world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.

He told ITV Boxing: "You know what this fight reminds me of? Vitali Klitschko against Herbie Hide a few years ago. Both men are big punchers and both are chinny.

"It's a good fight and Haye has achieved a lot and I respect what he has done at cruiserweight and that but for me he has no chin whatsoever and I can see him getting exposed to be honest.

"Despite his achievements I don't see him as a 'proper' fighter. Don't get me wrong he can punch but at the top level you can't go swimming without getting wet and I think Klitschko is knocking him out."

OFFICIALS NAMED FOR PACQUIAO V HATTON!!!

Wednesday, April 15, 2009

COTTO HIRES NEW TRAINER!!!

Wednesday, April 15, 2009

WBO welterweight world champion Miguel Cotto yesterday announced that Puerto Rican countryman Joe Santiago will be the man that takes over the reigns as trainer.

The split between Miguel and his Uncle Evangelista came to a head literally last week as both men got involved in a scuffle that ended with blows being thrown from both men. As a result Miguel decided enough was enough and sacked his longtime trainer.

While Santiago is Cotto's trainer at the moment, The appointment may be temporary.

"For now its going to be Joe. I feel comfortable with him. He's been with our team for the last three fights." said Cotto. "What happened with Evangelista is a family matter and will be resolved in private. For now we are going to Florida, to get away from the distractions and focus on training. I am strong and professional enough to know what to do in the gym and inside the ring"

Cotto began training this week in Tampa, Florida for the first defence of his title against IBF champ Joshua Clottey on June 13 in Madison Square Garden. Santiago has been with Cotto for a number of years as a nutritionist. Evangelista Cotto had been with Miguel for nearly 16 years.

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

De La Hoya Retires!!!He was a Six weight world champion and a winner of a massive TEN world titles but "The Goldenboy" Oscar De La Hoya felt today he had given all he could to the sport and announced his retirement from the ring aged 36.

De La Hoya arguably the biggest name in boxing, ended his glittering career four months after his final bout which ended in a loss to current Pound 4 Pound king Manny Pacquiao. his record stands at 39-6 which Includes 30 knockouts.

"Boxing is my passion, boxing is what I was born to do," a visibly emotional De La Hoya told a news conference in downtown Los Angeles. "And when I can't do it any more, when I can't compete at the highest level, it's not fair. It's not fair to me, it's not fair to the fans. I've come to the conclusion that's over, it's over inside the ring for me.

"When you're an athlete who has competed on the highest level for a lot of years, it's not fair to step inside the ring and not give my best."

De La Hoya, who has lost four of his last seven fights, struggled to choke back the tears while paying tribute to the support of his wife, Millie, and his father, Joel Sr., a former boxer.

"I promise to myself, I promise to my family and I promise to everyone that this is it," he added. "This is the end of the road for me inside the ring."

pACQUIAO'S POWER PROVES TOO MUCH FOR RODELA!!!

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

Pound 4 Pound king Manny Pacquiao is showing that power isnt a issue on the run up to his May 2nd showdown with Ricky Hatton.

In an overseas telephone conversation with www.insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports, conditioning expert Alex Ariza told the reporters that three weeks before the fight, Pacquiao “looks a hundred percent.”

Ariza went on to state that during a sparring session on Saturday Manny Pacquiao caught David Rodela (12-1-2, 6 KO’s) “with one of the worst shots I’ve ever seen at the Wild Card gym. He put him on the canvas for about five minutes in the tenth so his power is there all the way through.”

He noted that “hitting somebody like that in the tenth round with that kind of power with a left to the body” is phenomenal even as he disclosed that Rodela was in terrible pain and they were quiteworried.

Earlier in the day Manny also sparred with undefeated lightweight Urbano Antillon (25-0, 18 KO’s) and light welterweight Hector “Teco” Serrano (8-0, 3 KO’s),

DARCHINYAN LOOKS TO TAKE ON KING KONG!!!

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

Vic “Raging Bull’’ Darchinyan will have to take on and beat the man known as King Kong if he is to become a world champion in a third weight class, but that is what the Armenian born Australian intends to do on Saturday, July 11.

The current Super flyweight signed a contract yesterday which will see two of the best power punchers in boxing when Darchinyan goes head to head with the IBF bantamweight champion Joseph “King Kong” Agbeko.

The event is being co-promoted by Don King Productions and Gary Shaw Productions, LLC.

Agbeko (26-1,22 KOs), of New York by way of Ghana, will be making the second defense of the 118-pound crown he won with a seventh-round TKO over Luis Perez in August 2007. A winner of five in a row, Agbeko is coming off a 12-round decision over William Gonzalez on Dec, 11, 2008.

Darchinyan (32-1, 26 KOs ) solidified his status as the No. 1 super flyweight in the world – and one of the top boxers pound-for-pound – with back-to-back impressive victories over Jorge Arce last Feb. 7 on SHOWTIME and Christian Mijares on Nov. 1, 2008, on SHOWTIME.

Agbeko, a relentless, aggressive-minded slugger, will be making his third start in the United States and he told reporters yesterday that his nickname is not really a nickname. “My name is Joseph King Kong Agbeko. That’s my real name,” he said. “It’s on my birth certificate and my passport.’’

This will be a very dangerous assignment for Darchinyan who as talked about moving up in weight for a number of years . “I’ll be ready and I’ll be stronger at 118,” he said. “Agbeko will feel my power, I promise you.”

Although Winky had his moments throughout the fight his punch power just wasnt up to scratch and Williams' dominated with his long quick jab which snapped Winky's head back again and again. After twelve rounds of boxing there was no case of a close decision or a controversial one with Williams showing the reason why so many fighters have avoided him in the past. Scores at the end of the twelve rounds were 119-109, 119-109, 120-108.

In the co-feature, unbeaten heavyweight Cristobal “The Nightmare” Arreola (27-0, 24 KOs) showed that he was ready for a title shot as he easily KO'd former world title challenger Jameel “Big Time” McCline (39-10-3, 23 KOs), in the fourth round. A big right hand done the job at 2:01.

HOLT V BRADLEY PREDICTIONS!!!

Friday, April 3, 2009

It's that time of the week again fight fans where I play out some of the big fights of the weekend while trying to predict the outcome of each one.

Canada will be centre stage this weekend as they look to put on one of their biggest fight cards in the countries history. The featured fight will be the highly anticipated Junior welterweight showdown between the WBO champion Kendall "Rated R" Holt and WBC champion Timothy "Desert Storm" Bradley which should prove to be a fascinating contest as arguably two of the best Junior Welterweight play it out for both belts. As a co-feature to this huge fight we also get to see a IBF super middleweight eliminator in which Iron chinned Librado Adrade will go head to head with the Ukrainian Vitali Tsypko. What a weekend the fight fans in Canada will have in store for them.

Elsewhere in the United States we get to see the Hard Hitting Edwin Valero a fighter who has racked up 24 wins, all coming by way of knockout. He will be making his US debut where he will face the biggest opponent of his career so far. The rugged Mexican Antonio Pitalua a fighter who should give him a hell of a fight for the Vacant WBC Lightweight title.

Germany will provide the location for our Big heavyweight clash on Saturday. Alexander Povetkin who you may have seen defeating the likes of former World champion Chris Byrd or heavyweight contender Eddie Chambers will go head to head in a mouth watering fight with Amateur stand out and contender to the throne Jason "Big Six" Estrada. A win here will see either man challenge for the World title later down the line.

Plus there is much much more on a awesome weekend of boxing.

WILLIAMS V WINKY PREDICTIONS!!!

Friday, April 10, 2009

This weekend we get to witness two of the most feared men in boxing go head to head in a Middleweight bout that could potentially be a fascinating spectacle.

The southpaw slickster Ronald "Winky" Wright will step back into the ring this weekend from a two year hiatus to challenge the rangy punching machine Paul "The Punisher" Williams at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. Both men have been avoided for much of their careers often having to fight lower caliber fighters in order to get to the top of the division. A few months back both men must have decided enough is enough and instead of chasing after the current champions who are currently looking for more lucrative match ups they have now signed the contract to fight each other with the winners being us the fight fans. Trust me you don't want to miss this one and the fight itself has given me a nightmare to predict.

REPORT: COTTO AND UNCLE / TRAINER IN A NASTY BRAWL!!!

Thursday, April 9, 2009

The feud between WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto and his trainer and uncle, Evangelista, boiled over Wednesday when the two were involved in a a fistfight at a Caguas, Puerto Rico, gym where Cotto trains, according to a newspaper report.

Primera Hora, a Spanish language newspaper, reported that Miguel and Evangelista got into a verbal dispute not long after Miguel arrived at the gym around 3:15 p.m. local time. Miguel Cotto fired his uncle and Evangelista responded with a punch to his nephew’s face.

According to the report, after Miguel left the gym, Evangelista followed the boxer to his home and the argument continued, and Evangelista Cotto threw a brick at his nephew that missed the fighter and went through the passenger window of Miguel’s car, a 2009 Jaguar.

Veteran trainer Miguel Diaz works as an assistant trainer for Cotto, but was not in Caguas for the reported incident. He said he had not been able to reach either Cotto and said he had no details.

“It’s no secret that there was a lot of tension between them,” Diaz said. “I knew that, but I didn’t ever expect to hear they would fight each other.”

Diaz said Miguel Cotto wanted to train in Tampa, Fla., for his June 13 fight in New York against IBF welterweight champion Joshua Clottey. Diaz said Evangelista Cotto wanted to remain in Caguas, where he has a lot of fighters, but it is unclear if that disagreement precipitated Wednesday’s reported fight.

Among those who broke up the fight was Miguel Cotto Sr., the fighter’s father and trainer’s brother.

KHAN GETS TITLE SHOT!!!

Wednesday, April 8, 2009

Amir Khan will be handed a chance to claim his first major world title against WBA World Champion Andreas Kotelnik it was revealed today.

The fight is scheduled to for June 27th with a venue to be confirmed shortly

Khan's promoter Frank Warren told reporters “This is the moment that Amir has been waiting for and I’m delighted to deliver him the opportunity.  Amir put in a sensational performance against a three time world champion and future Hall of Famer in Barrera in only his 21st fight and now he has to produce the same form against Kotelnik who is a good hard fighter.”

This fight will be a step up in weight class for Khan who has been campaigning in the lightweight division and a match up with the Ukrainian fighter Kotelnik should prove a difficult one for the Bolton born fighter.

Fight fans in the UK may remember Kotelnik for his fights with Junior Witter in 2007 in which he lost a decision and Gavin Rees in 2008 where he won the WBA title.

An excited Khan told reporters. “This is the best news that I could have received, To fight for the world title in only my 22nd fight and at the age of just 22 is fantastic.  Frank has done a great job getting the world title fight for me in Britain and now I have to go out win it.”

“I’ve seen Kotelnik a few times and I’ve always been impressed by him but once my trainer Freddie Roach works out the game plan to beat him it’s my job to execute it on the night as I did effectively against Barrera.”

MORMECK MOVING UP TO HEAVYWEIGHT ON A REVENGE MISSION!!!

Former WBC and WBA cruiserweight champion Jean-Marc Mormeck announced yesterday his intentions to move up a weight class while seeking a match up down the road with David Haye.

It is my final target. I am not issuing a challenge, what I plan to do is things in the right way, achieve fights before I get to fight him again.

"Yes, I make the step up to heavyweight. I hope that I will be boxing at the start of the summer and then at the end of the year."

Mormeck then went on to claim he was offered a fight a while back with former heavyweight world champion John Ruiz but the time wasnt right at that time.

"Seven years ago, I was an unknown Frenchman, and then the Americans helped me become who I am today," Mormeck said. "This time, I make an offer to French people. But I cannot say who they are yet. A few years ago they offered me the chance to step [up] to heavyweight to fight John Ruiz, but it was not the moment. Right now, the time has come. I want it and I am excited about it."

Top Rank president Todd duBoef told Rafael they were disappointed for Luevano who was “looking forward to fighting on the show.” He added that Luevano was “probably the best featherweight in the world and he was in a very solid fight with Concepcion .” DuBeof added “hopefully we can re-schedule it for another day when he (Luevano) is health.”

Luevano successfully defended his title against Australia ’s Billy Dib on the Bernard Hopkins-Kelly Pavlik undercard last October 18
