TIMM: KOTELNIK READY!!!
Tuesday, June 30, 2009
Andreas Kotelnik's coach Michael Timm says his man is ready to take on Amir Khan.
The pair meet in Manchester on July 18 in a WBA light-welterweight world title match up,
Timm reacted strongly to false rumours spread over the weekend that Kotelnik was out of the fight.
"These rumours are totally false and without any background," he said. "The opposite is the truth. Andreas Kotelnik will restart his phase of sparring on Monday. He's top fit and his dental problems are completly solved.
"I feel very optimistic for the title bout of my world champion Andreas Kotelnik and there is at the moment nothing, I repeat nothing, what can threaten our fight at the M.E.N Arena on July 18th against Amir Khan. Like my counterpart Freddie Roach will say: these rumours are bullshit!" |
MIADANA, ORTIZ POST FIGHT QUOTES!!!
Monday, June 29, 2009
Victor Ortiz: “I think I got caught with the magnitude, It really hit on my way to the ring, the fact that I was the main event and the crowd chanting ‘Victor, Victor’, I didn’t listen to my corner which was my fault.”
“The whole world saw that I brawled and that is not my style, I fought his fight, he is as strong fighter and a strong fighter should not be fought that way.”
“I definitely want my rematch, I would do it tomorrow but you know…,” Ortiz chuckled as he pointed to his swollen eye.
Oscar De La Hoya President of Golden Boy Promotions: “We all witnessed a fight between two warriors. Ortiz made mistakes and he will fix his mistakes. Maidana is to be a great champion and I am sure that they will meet again.”
Marcos Maidana: “I am very happy to have beaten Ortiz. He is a tough fighter with a good record, The most important thing is that I take the belt back to Argentina.”
“I wasn’t surprised by Ortiz’ style. I’ve seen videos of him and I knew that he a warrior but I was ready to after him, This was the toughest fight I have ever been in, against the strongest and toughest fighter I have faced so far in my career. Although I was knocked down, I had to fight for my family back in Argentina. I would be more than happy to give him the rematch since I know how to fight him now.”
There were suggestions from ringside reporters that Ortiz quit but Ortiz, De La Hoya and Scheafer were unanimous in saying
Oscar De La Hoya: “Victor was ready to continue, This was a tremendous fight. Maidana is a great fighter and he`d probably beat any of the champions out there at 140. Ortiz came to fight and he went down but he will get back up and fulfill his dream of being a world champion.”
Victor Ortiz: “Everything has been taken away from me, even my parents,” Ortiz stated referencing his tough childhood. “I’ve tasted dirt, I’ve come from nothing but I will keep trying and I will be back.”

The first round started with both men looking to take the other out early and during a wild exchange Ortiz thought he had made the break through as he dropped Maidana to the canvas. Round two was more of the same electic pace and again Ortiz was able to find Maidana with massive shots that dropped Maidana twice towards the end of the round. During Rounds three and four both men had thier continued trading but it was Maidana who turned in a big round five rocking Ortiz time and time again while also cutting the young star. In a fight that fight fans were wishing would continue until the twelfth came to an end in Round six with Maidana sensing the end and attacking Ortiz from the start, He floored Ortiz again and the fight was stopped.

COTTO NOT IMPRESSED BY PACQUIAO!!!
Wednesday, June 24, 2009
WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto has revealed that he has not been impressed by Manny Pacquiao's performances of late, despite him being widely regarded as the best pound-for-pound fighter.
The two boxers are being matched by Top Rank, with the fight taking place on November 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
"Nothing impresses me. He has two arms and so do I. Things in life happen when they have to happen." Cotto told Primera Hora.
Cotto plans to return to training camp in three weeks ahead of the fight with Pacquiao, who impressively stopped Ricky Hatton back in May.
The Puerto Rican inists he is not concerned by the prospect of facing Pac Man at 145 pounds, even though it is two pounds less than he weighed in for his last outing.
He added: "It doesn't matter if it takes place at 145 pounds. That was the weight we had said from the start. I will go up in weight by eight to ten pounds (by fight night)."
Cotto suffered a serious cut during his recent win against Joshua Clottey which required 21 stitches above his left eye.
He insists, though, that the cut is healing well and should not present a problem during his build-up.
"The injury is already practically healed," said Cotto. "We are resting and then we are going to train for a good fight. The people knows how Miguel Cotto works."

BOB ARUM: COTTO IS ONBOARD FOR A PACQUIAO MATCHUP!!!
Wednesday, June 24, 2009
Negotiations for a Nov. 14 megafight between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto remain on track, according to the promoter for both fighters who said the Puerto Rican's team is ready to proceed and make it official.
"We're pretty well there," says Bob Arum, chairman of Top Rank, Inc., who talked with Cotto's representatives Tuesday morning. "I'll get it done next week. That's my goal."
Arum met with a representative from Pacquiao's camp over the weekend to outline the deal. Pacquiao still has to review it.
"We decided we didn't want to call Manny to discuss it on the phone because Manny tends to be distracted (in the Philippines)," says Arum, who was able to get Pacquiao to agree via phone to set up his May 2 junior welterweight championship bout with Ricky Hatton. Pacquiao (49-3-2, 37 KOs) won by second-round knockout in the first major pay-per-view bout of the year in his first appearance at 140 pounds.
Arum told reporters yesterday that the fight would take place slightly below the 147-pound limit.
"The weight is still in the air," Arum says. "But we're still in the same ballpark. It's not a big issue, really. Miguel is not going down below 144. Manny wants him to be a couple pounds below 147. That's not going to stop the deal from being made." |
BRADLEY V CAMPBELL PRESSER QUOTES!!!
Wednesday, June 24, 2009
TIMOTHY BRADLEY
“I don’t think people realize or understand how exciting it is for me and how important it is for me to fight at home and on SHOWTIME. I have been asking for a fight here for a long time.
“It’s weird, really. I’m more well-known in England, the United States and Canada than I am in my own backyard. But that’s going to change on Aug. 1 and I am extremely happy about that.
“This will be a great night for boxing and an exciting night for the fans in this area to see one of their own in a great fight of this stature. I really appreciate Aqua Caliente for stepping up to the plate like they have.
“The recognition I get has been fantastic, but home is where I need the support. Home is where I want the support. Only stars and celebrities play the arena where we’re fighting, and I know I am going to shine.
“I’ve known Nate for a long time. I know what he brings to the table and that he is going to try and bring it to me. This is a tough, hard-fight. But that’s what I want. I want to fight the best.
“I didn’t have to take this. But I didn’t feel (Devon) Alexander had done enough to deserve a shot. Now, he’s fighting a guy I beat to win my first title, Junior Witter, on the undercard.
“That only makes this card better. I have to beat a highly regarded, determined, tough guy like Nate. I need his name on my resume to help get me where I want to go and am going to be.’’
NATE CAMPBELL
“I am just happy to fight. I had three lightweight belts and I couldn’t give them away, much less get anybody to fight me. I’ve fought bigger guys before so 140 is a very comfortable weight for me. I train all the time so the layoff won’t be a factor.
“There’s a lot of respect going on here both ways, but once the bell rings we’ll be trying to tear the other’s head off.
“I have no problem fighting in his backyard, or anywhere for that matter. The only thing that matters is that I’m the baddest guy not only in the ring, but in the building whenever I fight.
“I’ve known Tim since when he was barely a blip on the radar screen. He fights with a lot of heart and he’s got the belt now, but I always feel like I’m the champion. He’s undefeated, but I am going to get that (zero). I plan to do it all on Aug. 1.
“I fight because I love to fight and I love the sport. Mostly, though, I love to win. This fight has all the makings of a great one. Style-wise, it will be amazing. It’s going to be a monster ordeal.’’
PHIL COOPER (EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF MARKETING, AQUA CALIENTE BAND OF CAHUILLA INDIANS)
“The Show was made for this type of knock-out entertainment; this is the beginning of a new era for top-level sporting events in Southern California.”
DAVID FENDRICK, CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER, AQUA CALIENTE BAND OF CAHUILLA INDIANS)
“We have the right venue and the right team in place—this fight will be spectacular.”
PROMOTER GARY SHAW
“I want everyone to be aware that Timothy Bradley didn’t have to take this risk of taking on Nate Campbell but he did so because he is a true athlete.
“Timothy gave up his championship title with the WBC to go with the WBO title in order to seek out more opportunity and this fight offered him that opportunity.
“Not only is this a battle for a championship title but it is a battle in his very own backyard. This is something very special to Timothy to be able to bring the fight home.
“Nate Campbell is a great fighter, as is Timothy Bradley. They are both professionals and on Aug. 1 fight fans are going to see a real fight from two great fighters.
“Having added the Witter-Alexander match as the co-feature is something very special because two great world title fights in the same weight class (on the same night) rarely happens in this sport.
“We are honored to promote the first boxing event at Agua Caliente Resort and Casino, which is a first class resort with superior service that is very detailed -- in much the same way, both Timothy and Nate bring the same type of superior performance in the ring for the fight fans.”
PROMOTER KEN THOMPSON
“We’re especially excited to bring this stellar event to Bradley’s hometown. Bradley has proven time and time again on foreign land that he is a true champion and on Aug. 1 he will have the opportunity to treat his hometown fans to witness another one of his great victories.
“Agua Caliente Resort and Casino was our first choice when considering the venue and the magnitude of this fight. Southern California fight fans will enjoy the resort immensely.’’

ROACH BLASTS KOTELNIK!!!
Friday, June 19, 2009
AMIR KHAN'S trainer has accused Andreas Kotelnik of talking bulls*** after the Ukrainian delayed their fight because he had TOOTHACHE!
Freddie Roach could not contain his anger when he came face to face with WBA world light-welterweight champion Kotelnik in London today.
Roach reacted furiously when told Khan's first shot at a world crown had been moved from Saturday in London to Manchester on July 18.
He fumed: "Toothache? Come on — this is boxing. I am really p***ed off, so disappointed it's not true. Really — it's just bulls***.
"Kotelnik shouldn't worry about getting a tooth taken out, he's going to get knocked out by Amir and Britain will have a new world champion.
"It's just been delayed by a couple of weeks, that's all."
Kotelnik, 31, insists he will undergo a second minor operation on his gnashers today and it will be a week before he returns to full training.
But 22-year-old Khan was a bit more charitable than Roach, who has whipped him into sensational shape at their training base in Los Angeles.
He said: "I could have given Kotelnik loads when I heard about the postponement but I don't want to kill him verbally — just knock him out in the ring.
"It's a bit annoying though as all my training was designed to peak for this Saturday. Now I'll return to our camp in LA and start again." |
KLITSCHKO, CHAGAEV QUOTES!!!
Thursday, June 18, 2009
Wladimir Klitschko: “He’s the best opponent you could have asked for. Ruslan is the ideal solution after the cancellation of David Haye. He is the third best boxer after my brother Vitali and myself. He holds the WBA belt. He is the true world champion as he has defeated Nikolai Valuev.”
Ruslan Chagaev: It has always been a big dream to fight at Schalke. Now it becomes reality. I have met the football team of Schalke 04 previous to my fight in 2008 against Matt Skelton. I gave them a boxing lession together with my trainer Michael Timm. They were very nice. In general the people here are very kind and honest. I’m so excited about the fight. The size difference to Wladimir doesn’t bother me. I have prepared myself to Valuev who is also tall and heavy. I’m expecting to fight for 12 rounds. It is in god’s hands what going to happen on Saturday. I don’t want to say much as I want to let my hands speak in the ring.”
Vitali Klitschko: “Chagaev is stronger, than Haye, but he talks less. He’s a very strong boxer….I’m sure that Wladimir or me would knock out Haye.”
Klitschko trainer Emanuel Steward: “In three of the last of seven fights Wladimir boxed against lefthanders, and in amateur boxing he had huge experience when it was necessary to prepare for some opponents in just days. In the first few days Wladimir felt comfortable.”
Chagaev trainer Michael Timm: “The size of Klitschko has not caused problems as we prepared to Valuev who is even larger than Klitschko. But, certainly we know, that Klitschko is a better boxer, moves quickly and can change tactics. We also prepare for that. We have a recipe for victory, but I certainly shall not tell it to you.”

GREEN V JONES JR FIGHT IN THE WORKS!!!
Wednesday, June 17, 2009

KHAN'S TITLE FIGHT IS DELAYED!!!
Tuesday, June 16, 2009
Amir Khan's WBA light-welterweight title fight against Andreas Kotelnik has been postponed for three weeks.
And there is also a change of venue, with the contest being switched from London to Manchester.
The clash will now take place on July 18 at the Manchester Evening News Arena.
The reason behind the rescheduling is because Kotelnik is currently suffering from a tooth infection.
The fight was originally scheduled to take place in London’s O2 Arena, but the new date clashes with a Michael Jackson concert at the venue.
“Firstly, I'm delighted that my world title fight against Kotelnik is still on and when July 18 comes, I will never be more ready for him, although the postponement of the fight is a pain,” said Khan.
“In boxing, these things happen so I have to be professional and stay focused. However, when I'm the victor and I am finally crowned world champion, it will make up for it.
“Freddie Roach is adjusting my training accordingly so that I'm ready for the new date.”
The Bolton fighter added he was disappointed the O2 is not available, even as he now moves closer to home.
“I was looking forward to headlining at the O2 Arena again and to fighting in the capital as I have a lot of fans in London,” the 22-year-old said.
“I always get a great reception there so hopefully I can go back sometime soon, maybe for my first defence. I had a great night at the M.E.N Arena against Marco Antonio Barrera last time out and now I aim to win the world title against Kotelnik there too.”

Golden Boy Promotions said on Sunday that Mayweather’s July 18 fight against Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas will be rescheduled.
“I am extremely disappointed that this fight has to be postponed,” Mayweather (39-0, 25 KOs) said in a statement. I was training very hard and looking forward to getting back in the ring on July 18.”
Marquez (50-4-1, 37 KOs) said in a statement from his training camp in Mexico that he was also disappointed.
“I will remain focused, in shape and ready to fight whenever the fight is rescheduled for,”
Mayweather and Marquez were scheduled to fight at a catch-weight of about 143 pounds, eight more than Marquez has ever fought and the lightest weight for Mayweather since 2005.

COTTO OVERCOMES CUT TO EDGE CLOTTEY!!!
Sunday, June 14, 2009
Miguel Cotto kept hold of his WBO welterweight world title last night after a split decision win over the tough Joshua Clottey on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Cotto wasted no time at all in the bout as he dropped Clottey in the first round with what looked to be a jab but was left to fight from the third round on with a deep gash along his eye from an accidental head butt. Cotto's face looked like something for a horror film after that stage with blood continuously running down his face. Cotto always the warrior decided to continue and commanded the round while Clottey had a good round five as he landed some good shots, In the fifth round though he also suffered an injury. Both men came together as Cotto spun out of a clinch that left Clottey writhing in agony as he twisted his knee as he fell. Cotto took the advantage of the injury and had a big round six punishing Clottey in the corner. Cotto's eye was really hindering him and Clottey edged rounds seven and eight as Cotto had difficulty seeing the right hand. The rest of the fight was close as Cotto boxed from the outside. Scores were 115-112, 116-111 for Cotto, 114-113 for Clottey.
Cotto told reporters after the fight "I’m little tired and I have a huge cut on my left eye. I didn’t see the right hand coming. The last five rounds I handled it pretty well. I knew if I moved like I did the last four or five rounds, I was going to win the fight.” (Regarding his future plans) “Vacation…the people have to wait until I rest a little bit.”
“I think I won the fight but I didn’t get the decision" Clottey said "The thing that would make me happy is a rematch. I’m very upset, but I have to move on. What would make me happy is for Mr. Bob Arum to give me a rematch.”
Regarding future plans for Cotto his promoter Bob Arum said "We’re going to have to talk to the Cotto people. He has a lot of options. I would like for him to fight Manny Pacquiao. That would be a tremendous fight and I hope we can get it done for November. This was a great fight, and under ordinary circumstances Clottey deserves a rematch. But we have economics. It’s just not going to happen next.” (Regarding where Floyd Mayweather fits in the mix) “Floyd has a fight coming up with Marquez. Then he’ll probably want to fight Calderon. Floyd just doesn’t fight big guys. Let’s be honest, he doesn’t fight big guys.”
WBO mini flyweight champion Ivan Calderon (32-0-1, 6 KOs) and challenger Rodel Mayol (25-3-1, 19 KOs) fought to a six round technical draw. The fight was stopped due to a cut from an accidental headbutt in the sixth round. Judges scored the fight 58-56 Calderon, 58-56 Mayol, 57-57.

Lightweight Alberto Cruz (5-0, 4 KOs) defeated Rudy Valdez via TKO after Valdez (2-5)
Super bantamweight Jayson Velez (9-0, 8 KOs) defeated Jesus Beron (5-2, 4 KOs) via TKO at :33 in round four.

MURRAY LOSES BRITISH TITLE ON THE SCALES!!!
Friday, June 12, 2009
John Murray has lost his British lightweight title on the scales at today's weigh-in for his scheduled defence against Scott Lawton.
Murray only missed the 9st 9lbs limit by fractions of an ounce but a misunderstanding meant that the fighter and his trainer Joe Gallagher were left with no time to get the weight off.
"That's the trouble with trying to get fighters to the top of their weight," said a devastated Gallagher. "Inactivity is a big key to this but I'm not making excuses.
"The scales were on thick carper, rather than flat wood and they said he had to be 61.26 kilos. He was 61.34 but it kept flickering between 61.28 and 61.34.
"We had a misunderstanding then we were stuck in traffic so we'd already used up our cut-off time.
"It's taken the wind right out of John's sails which is worrying. Things like this make the fight more even.
We just hope that if John wins, him against thaxton goes on for the vacant title now."

ARTHUR WARNS KHAN!!!
Thursday, June 11, 2009
Former WBO World Super-Featherweight Champion Alex Arthur has warned Amir Khan that he's in for a tough night's work against Andreas Kotelnik - and he's speaking from first-hand experience. Khan takes on WBA World Light-Welterweight champion Kotelnik at the O2 Arena, London, on June 27. And Arthur knows just how good the Ukrainian is after losing to him on points as an amateur back in 1998 - the same year he struck gold at the Commonwealth Games..
"Kotelnik was really good back then, and it was obvious that if he did turn professional then he was going to go all the way," said Arthur.
"He had that real Eastern European amateur style and was a very difficult man to beat, but he's proved how good he is by going on to win a world title.
"The moment our fight started I realised that he was something special, and he's still very slick, very slippery and I'm sure he'll be a real handful at the O2.
"Not everyone had heard of Kotelnik before he was announced as Khan's opponent, but he shouldn't be overlooked. Believe me, he's a very dangerous fighter."
But Arthur, who returns to action on June 19 in Glasgow, believes that Khan can get the better of Kotelnik.
"Amir is going to have to be at his best," said Arthur, who is now aiming to win a second world title at lightweight.
"He's got to use his angles, keep out of trouble and utilise his speed to dictate the fight on his own terms.
"I believe that he can do it and I'll be rooting for him because Britain needs more world champions.
"I've been a big admirer of Amir ever since he won his silver medal at the Olympic Games, and he's great for the sport.
"I also know that Amir is in great hands because I've worked with Freddie Roach before and he is one of the best, if not the best, trainers in the world." |

COTTO V CLOTTEY PRESSER!!!
Thursday, June 11, 2009
Joshua Clottey: “Cotto is really giving me a big opportunity. I will always respect Miguel Cotto. All of the top welterweights never mention my name and Cotto has mentioned me for a long time. I respect that. He gave me the chance when others wouldn’t. I prepared very well. trained hard and done every possible thing to win. This won’t be an easy fight at all. We’re going to leave everything in the ring. It’s all about respect. I’m going to give a very good, clean fight and win.”
Miguel Cotto: “There’s just three more days until the fight. Like Joshua said before, he’s going to leave everything in the ring and I am going to do the same to be the winner and retain my title. But the real winner will be all of the fans. I’m ready to go and I know he’s ready too. Let’s go to it on Saturday.”
Rodel Mayol: “I would like to thank Top Rank for giving me the opportunity to fight at Madison Square Garden. This is my 3rd time fighting for a title and I’m going to try my best to win this fight. Everyone knows Ivan Calderon is a good boxer but many say his fights are boring. I will ensure that on Saturday night this fight will not be boring.”
Ivan Calderon: “He may say my fights are boring because you are used to see boxers hit and I’m never getting hit. I know it’s going to be a good fight. They trained and I trained hard for this fight. My style is hit, don’t get hit and go back home with no marks. A lot of people love my fights because my boxing is not boring. This is my first time fighting at MSG on a big card. A lot of people say he’ll have Manny Pacquiao in his corner but I’ll have the whole country of Puerto Rico in mine.”
Matt Korobov: “I’m so glad I’m fighting again in New York City in Madison Square Garden because a lot of Russians live here. Good luck to everyone on Saturday night.”

FLOYD SNR CLAIMS HE`LL TRAIN HIS SON FOR MOSELY CLASH!!!
Wednesday, June 10, 2009
The return of Floyd “Money” Mayweather means an influx of revenue and action fights for boxing right?
Surely the once number one fighter on the planet with the undefeated record parlays into a buzz that boxing fans want and need to see.
A fighter whose gift for assaulting his potential foes with crafty, brash one liners which mirrors in delivery to the pain he inflicts upon his victims in the ring with stinging precision and calculated humiliation translates to giving the fans what they want and need, fights with fighters that stand a very honest chance of beating him.
Certainly this would mean that man that fancies himself as the best fighter since Ray Robinson would want to come out of retirement to fight the likes of people named Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley. By fighting these two worthy opponents, Mayweather would give boxing fans what they’ve been craving for, serious competition that would test the limits of the destined Hall of Famer. And in return, Mayweather’s moniker would generate a lot of it, MONEY.
Unfortunately, if you listen to Mayweather, he sounds as though he is Father Christmas to the pauper, Manny Pacquiao, the People’s Champion. The fighter that says he softened the once golden goose (Oscar De La Hoya) of boxing for Manny Pacquiao and annihilated a former “hit man” in Ricky Hatton in advance of the Filipino bomber is also saying that he will leave the current welterweight champion, Shane Mosley for others to feed upon since he sees no worth in Mosley as a money maker.
Here is where the dilemma exists. How can a man, with such amazing prowess in the ring not do what it takes to make these two fights happen?
Instead of making a true effort to force a fight with Pacquaio, he insisted upon raking in most of the profits. This was and is an automatic deal killer from the start. Perhaps he should take a page from Mosley and do whatever it takes to fight boxing’s official top-flight generator in Pacquaio.
Mosley has offered to come down in weight and take the short money in order to secure a date to the prom with Pacquiao. Folks, this means Shane wants the fight. He is making a sincere effort to fight the best. He isn’t just talking about it; he is doing something about it.
On the flip side, we have Floyd.
In lieu of a mega showdown with the People’s Champion, we get a blown up lightweight in Marquez. Even Floyd’s own father doesn’t see this as a pay per view event.
With a sense of dry wit he insisted, “The Marquez fight is going to be nothing more than what you have seen before.”
He then asked me, “Do you remember the Arturo Gatti fight?”
Unfortunately, “yes” I answered.
Floyd replied, “Well then if you can remember the Gatti fight, you’ve already seen the Marquez fight in advance. It is going to be the same thing all over again.”
In the Gatti fight, Mayweather unleashed a barrage of weaponry that made Arturo look like an amateur. That fight was horrendous. Gatti went down in the first round and the super fight that never was finished in the sixth stanza when Gatti’s corner waived the white flag effectively surrendering to Floyd Mayweather Jr.
I told Floyd that I thought this fight was a travesty to the public and that perhaps Oscar’s Golden company should’ve had mercy on its fans that made them so much money. As an alternative to having the fight on PPV, the fight should have been scheduled on one of HBO’s boxing programs that would not require the public to dish out their hard earn money for this attraction.
Surprisingly, he agreed. Floyd was very candid when he told me, “they should not be telling the public to pay up extra money for this fight.”
He said, “It should be on regular HBO instead of PPV. There is a bad economy out there and we all know what is going to happen already.”
I concur. Why ask, no, demand the public to give their extra hard earn cash for this fight?
The only saving grace for selling this pay per view is seeing one of the most elite Mexican fighters of all time try his heart, skill, and will battle the sometimes obnoxious slick boxer.
Floyd declared to me, “Marquez is a Mexican. He doesn’t want to look bad. He is going to come forward and make the fight.”
“Mexicans always come to fight. But when he does, he is going to get clipped. He isn’t going to counter punch. Trust me.”
In an interview with me recently, Mosley told me that Marquez “has a chance to win” against Mayweather. Just how much of a chance are we talking about?
Mosley replied, “It’s a chance.” That doesn’t sound too assuring to me.
I would not buy this fight. I would however buy a Pacquaio/Mosley fight, Pacquiao/Mayweather tussle, and most definitely, a Mosley/Mayweather mega event.
Says Floyd Sr., “Now the Mosley or Pacquiao fight is a totally different story. Those fights are definitely PPV events.”
“Both fighters would give my son trouble. But in the end, lil’ Floyd wins.”
He went on to say the Mosley fight “is a very good fight. Shane fights all comers and gives it his all. This fight would go all 12 rounds with a lot of action in it.”
He even said that should that fight between his son and Shane Mosley happen he’d “become chief trainer for the Mosley fight.”
Well here’s hoping his son comes to his senses and does everything he can to make the Pacquiao or Mosley fight come to fruition. Personally, I am rooting for the Mosley/Mayweather showdown over the Manny vs. Floyd collision.
Until then, we get what Floyd said to me, “This is a tune up fight for my son.”
Yeah, let’s all go out and look forward to July 18, 2009 and watch the return of Floyd “Money” Mayweather get some work in on Juan Manuel Marquez live on HBO PPV.

VALUEV CONFIRMED AS WBA CHAMPION!!!
Wednesday, June 10, 2009
The WBA clarified on Tuesday that Nikolai Valuev is the WBA world champion and Ruslan Chagaev remains the champion in recess.
The sanctioning body’s attorneys have now put in writing that Chagaev’s status as champion in recess is “under review” and Valuev remains the world champion. Chagaev is expected to face IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko on June 20th in Germany. The WBA’s attorney letter also states that neither Chagaev, Klitschko nor their representatives have requested a WBA sanction of the event, which “is unlikely to be granted.” Valuev and Sauerland Event will make no attempt to stop Chagaev from fighting Klitschko, but have demanded that Valuev’s status as champion not be further confused by a WBA sanction of Klitschko-Chagaev.

MAYWEATHER SR BELIEVES HIS SON WILL STOP PACQUIAO!!!
Tuesday, June 9, 2009
World famous boxing trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. is predicting his son Floyd Jr. will stop Manny Pacquiao if the mega fight between the current and former pound-for-pound (P4P) best boxers in the world pushes through. “Lil Floyd [is] going to stop [Pacquiao]. Watch what I tell you,” Mayweather told Percy Crawford of Fighthype.com in an exclusive interview posted June 8 in the boxing website.
Reminded that he said the same thing about Ricky Hatton when he was training the British slugger for the May 2 Pacquiao fight, Mayweather said:
“We ain’t dealing with no Ricky Hatton now. This [Floyd Jr.] is the real deal. This is a different monster here. Ricky had the knowledge, but he wasn’t the athlete to pull out the strategy. This is an entirely different monster.”
Mayweather scoffed at the suggestion that Pacquiao, the consensus best boxer P4P, is considered “unbeatable” following his four consecutive wins, three by knockouts, in four different weight classes in the last 14 months.
After scoring a hard-fought split decision to win the World Boxing Council (WBC) and vacant Ring Magazine junior lightweight champion from Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico, PacMan went on to score three straight KOs against top-flight opponents.
Pacquiao knocked out WBC lightweight titlist David Diaz on June 28, 2008, followed by his dominating upset of former six-division champion Oscar De La Hoya at welterweight on Dec. 6, and a sensational second-round knockout of British world champion Ricky Hatton at junior welterweight last May 2.
Mayweather said he and his son have patched up their differences and he is now being tapped to help in Floyd Jr.’s training camp.
“Yeah, I’m going to be helping Lil Floyd out here and there. Me and Lil Floyd alright now. I’m going to go back into town and help out a little,” Mayweather said.
He urged Hatton to retire from boxing following his knockout loss to Pacquiao recently in Las Vegas.
“He fought the top two guys and he got knockout both times. There is nothing left for him to do. He won the championship twice, so there ain’t nothing left for him to do but retire,” Mayweather said.
He said Hatton has earned enough money that would allow him to live comfortably for the rest of his life.
Mayweather said he has not talked to Hatton since the May 2 fight, and said he took offense at some people and the media for making him look like the bad guy for leaving the ring early after his fighter’s stunning loss.
“I’m not going to stand stand over nobody and look at somebody sleep. I’m not a paramedic,” Mayweather said.
Asked about the Mayweather Jr.’s July 18 matchup with Marquez on July 18, his first since returning after a 16-month “retirement,” the elder Mayweather predicted an easy win for his son.
He said Marquez would be an easy target for Floyd Jr. and that Marquez “is going to be hit with everything.”
He admitted that the one and a half year layoff has somewhat diminished his son’s boxing sharpness.
“But he [Floyd Jr.] hasn’t lost nothing like that. He still sharp, still clever and he’s been beating everybody down. Floyd is looking good,” he said |
HAYE STILL WANTS THE SCALPS OF THE KLITSCHKO'S!!!
Tuesday, June 9, 2009
David Haye has told the Klitschko brothers he still wants to rip their heads off on his way to the world heavyweight crown.
The Hayemaker infuriated Wladimir Klitschko ahead of their fight by wearing a T-shirt with the British star holding the severed heads of the 33-year-old champion and his brother, Vitali.
Haye, 28, last week pulled out of the clash - which had been scheduled for June 20 - with a back injury.
But he is adamant he will return and secure his legacy by crushing both brothers. "The T-shirt had a picture of me with their severed heads in my hands and that's still the plan," said Haye, who announced his fans can claim a refund on their tickets for the fight in Gelsenkirchen.
"My sole intent going into the fight with Wladimir was to rip his head off and I was training very aggressively."
Haye admits that pulling out of the fight, which had sold 65,000 tickets, was a blow.
He added: "To get the injury was gutting. It's been the worst few days of my life." |
MACCARINELLI PUTTING IT ALL ON THE LINE!!!
Monday, June 8, 2009
Enzo Maccarinelli will sensationally quit boxing if he loses to Denis Lebedev later this month.
The former WBO cruiserweight champion has put his profession on the line by insisting he will end his 10-year career should he fail to beat the unbeaten Russian.
It is a massive statement by Swansea's Maccarinelli, who has slipped down the rankings after losing two of his last three fights — the latest a shock defeat to the unknown Ola Afolabi.
It could also prove the ultimate sacrifice as he attempts to climb his way back up the cruiserweight division.
"I would pack it in if I lost. There would be no chances after that," said Maccarinelli.

KLITSCHKO V HAYE OFF!!!
WLAD NOW SEEKING MATCHUP WITH ARREOLA!!!
Thursday, June 4, 2009
The fight between Heavyweight king Wladimir Klitschko and David Haye has been offially cancelled.
The reason for the cancellation is an Injury to Davud Haye which occured during training. Klitschko Management was informed about the cancellation on late Wednesday afternoon. Nevertheless, the fight night on June 20th at the Veltins-Arena in Schalke is supposed to take place.
“I am very disappointed that the fight got cancelled. I’ve been in training camp for weeks. I am in top condition and I was really looking forward to fight night. I don’t want to disappoint the fans in Schalke and I am willing to fight a different opponent as well,” said Klitschko. Bernd Bönte, Managing Director of the Klitschko Management Group confirmed “We will do everything to realize this fight night. After having recovered from the first shock, we will work on finding a top opponent.”
It is now thought that Wladimir is actively looking for a suitable replacement and has issued a challenge to the impressive Chris Arreola. At the time of writing Arreola's management team has told various reporters that their fighter isnt in the kind of shape required to fight for a world title and is ruling out a fight with the Ukraine Giant.
Odlanier Solis is another name being put to Klitschko and the Cuban is ready and waiting I am ready to go", states Solis. "If Wladimir Klitschko dares to accept me as opponent I promise to expose him and strip his championship belts from him."
"I am the new generation, the best boxer in the world today and I am ready to prove it", says Solis. "I stopped David Haye in only 3 rounds (at the world amateur championships 2001 in Belfast 2001) and I will do the same to Wladimir Klitschko. There is no worthy opponent in the world today for the Klitschkos but me. Now that I am reunited with my old trainer Pedro Diaz nobody can stop me on my way to the top. If Wladimir thinks I'm joking he should just accept the challenge and meet his successor on June 20th. I will be the next undisputed heavyweight champion of the world."

HATTON CAMP LABELS FREDDIE ROACH STORY AS "ABSOLUTE NONSENSE"
Thursday, June 4, 2009
Boxing websites and forums are buzzing with activity regarding trainer extraordinaire, Freddie Roach, and whom he may be training next.
In a story carried by Eastsideboxing.com, but originally posted on Ringtalk.com, James Slater writes that Manny Pacquaio’s trainer, Freddie Roach, is set to become the newest instructor for Manchester, England’s Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton.
I spoke moments ago with Hatton’s manager, Paul Speak, on the matter and he said “There is no truth in the rumor”.
Mr. Speak said that he was informed of the rumor this morning from a colleague named Craig Gibson. Gibson runs the official Ricky Hatton website and both thought the story should be corrected.
After talking with Paul Speak, I phoned Gareth Williams to confirm what Mr. Speak had told me.
Gareth Williams is the personal legal counsel to the former world champion, Ricky Hatton. He empathically denied the tale of Roach training Hatton. “This is just absolute nonsense. Whom are they attributing these resources to?”
Furthermore, he (Williams) echoed what Speak informed me of, that the return of “The Hitman” has not been cemented.
“He certainly has not approached Freddie Roach to train him because he hasn’t made any decisions as to whether or not he is even going to continue to fight.”
As a matter of fact, according to Speak, Hatton is on a family vacation and won’t return until early next week.
But fight fans should not anticipate an announcement regarding Hatton’s future so quickly after his return from the holiday.
“He is going to take a lot of time, maybe some weeks, possibly months, to decide what he will and wants to do with his future,” said Speak.

ARUM DENIES A DEAL IS DONE BETWEEN PACQUIAO AND MOSELY!!!
Thursday, June 4, 2009
Bob Arum has denied claims from 'Sugar' Shane Mosley that Manny Pacquiao has agreed to fight him.
Pacman’s comments that he was prepared “negotiate” a fight with Mosley were taken by the Californian as being confirmation that a bout between the two was set for October - with the number one welterweight in the world agreeing to a 60-40 split in Pacquiao’s favour.
Top Rank promoter Arum admitted to discussing the possibility with Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer but insisted it is far from a certain outcome, adding that the Filipino icon is likely to wait until the July 18 Floyd Mayweather-Juan Manuel Marquez fight before making a decision.
"This has absolutely no credibility to it, Manny hasn't decided who he's going to fight Arum told the Los Angeles Times Why would I eliminate options? "It could be Mosley, or it could be [Miguel] Cotto, Mayweather Jr, Marquez or [Edwin] Valero. They're all in the mix.
"I've also heard from Manny's people that he wants to wait and see the Mayweather-Marquez fight [July 18] before he agrees to anything. "That would mean we won't be ready until November."

SHANE MOSELY ANSWERS HIS CRITICS!!!
Wednesday, June 3, 2009
In the district that spans from 140 to 154 pounds, some of the sweet science’s most gifted warriors reside and thrive.
From junior welterweight to super welterweight, this region of weight classes is stacked with fighters that are willing to give the public what they want and deserve- a fight.
Names like, but not limited to, Miguel Cotto, Manny Pacquaio, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Joshua Clottey, whom I believe will give fits to the PR bomber but ultimately lose by split decision, Paul Williams, Timothy Bradley Jr., Ricky Hatton, Andre Berto, the once mighty Antonio Margarito, and the new addition of lightweight champion, Juan Manuel Marquez can be found here.
Among those names, but not receiving a lot of attention from boxing scribes, fighters, and fans alike, stands first ballot Hall of Famer- “Sugar” Shane Mosley.
Mosley’s name isn’t exactly rolling off the tongues of Mayweather, Cotto, or Pacquaio either. In fact, none of the top three combatants mentioned seems very enthused to enter the squared circle with the WBA welterweight king, Shane Mosley, anytime soon.
To say that this has irked the welterweight champ is putting it mildly, especially when it comes to Mayweather.
“Why is he (Mayweather) fighting the lightweight champion of the world (Juan Marquez)? He should be fighting the welterweight champion, that’s me,” he told ESPN’s Brian Kenney.
But when I spoke with Shane Mosley as recently as yesterday, he informed me that Mayweather was not his first choice to pick a fight with.
In fact, he said “I want to fight Pacquaio first then Mayweather.” This way, it “kills the fight for Mayweather to fight Pacquaio (and) then be able to retire without fighting me.”
“I want to retire him (Mayweather),” he said.
But doesn’t this mean that Mosley is doing the same thing that Mayweather is doing?
Seeming to fight a little man for a big payday?
“No.” He said. “Because Manny is bigger than most people think. He came into his last few fights weighing in around 150(lbs.) the night of the fight. People should stop trying to make it sound like he is smaller than he really is.”
During the interview, Mosley told me that he only wanted to fight the best fighter first. I asked him if by fighting Pacquaio before Mayweather, is he saying that the Filipino dynamo is indeed better than the undefeated Grand Rapids boxing phenom, Floyd Mayweather Jr.
“I want to fight the best fighter first. And I think that the world thinks Manny is the best Pound for Pound fighter in the world so that is who I want to face.”
Shane told me that he believes the fight with Pacquaio can and will be made this year because “Manny wants to fight.”
In an effort to coax the Filipino to engage him in the ring, Mosley told me that he is willing to “put my belt up and we can do it at 143 or 144 pounds.”
This does seem logical. After all, Freddie Roach trainer of Manny, Bob Arum of Top Rank, and Manny himself, all agreed to have Oscar De la Hoya weigh in at 147, why not let Shane Mosley enter the ring at 143 or 144?
But if Mosley thinks he will land a fight with the top three anytime soon, he may not want to hold his breath for too long.
Currently, as it stands, Cotto is gearing up for the rugged Joshua Clottey in a couple weeks, Mayweather is preparing to battle Marquez in Marquez’s debut into the welterweight fray, and Pacquaio announced that he will make a decision in mid July as to who will get the chance to dethrone him as the Pound for Pound champion on October 17.
And furthermore, Top Rank, which holds rights to Cotto, Clottey, and Pacquaio has gone on record as saying their preference for whom they want to see fight later this year.
And none of what they are saying as far as future bouts has the name Shane Mosley involved in it.
“I sit at the crossroads for them (Cotto, Mayweather, Pacquaio). They have to fight me. I am the best fighter,” he said.
“Look what I did to Margarito. I proved it with him. He was supposed to be the next Mexican superstar and I beat him. I beat him convincingly by knocking him out.”
In talking with Mosley, I got a sense of aggression in his passive tone. Although he tried his best to resonate diplomacy in his words, from time to time he clearly slipped into frustration.
“I ask is the public really going to sit by and allow the HBO’s of the world and the fighters to not fight the best welterweight fighter out there, me?”
With all of Shane’s lobbying (that bordered on aggression) for respect from fellow fighters, fans, and media alike, there was none more telling than his “choice” words for Maxboxing’s Steve Kim.
Kim, the colorful Korean writer that always seems to know or say that he knows so much about boxing, but isn’t a fighter, had opined that Mosley’s press release last week claiming his desire to fight Pacquaio at a catch weight was done as “usually the last bastion of the very desperate or those who are just begging.”
He also wrote, “Say it ain’t so, ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley has become Ishe Smith” and that “an apt analogy is that Mosley is that multi millionaire.. (although he may not be after his divorce proceedings) that now has to beg and panhandle to make ends meat.”
Wow. Crude, elementary “stuff”. So what does Mosley think of Steve Kim and his profiling of Shane?
“Steve Kim is a hater writer, “ said Mosley. “I used to know the guy that was with him, Dougie Fischer. We sparred once. He (D.F.) knows boxing. Kim hasn’t put on the gloves. He doesn’t even know that the speed bag drills are actually good for fighters because it helps with eye/hand coordination, hand speed, and endurance.”
Mosley continued with “how can I be compared to Ishe Smith? A fighter that hasn’t even won a world title yet. How can you compare me to a club fighter that I don’t even think the world even knows yet?”
“The fans don’t want to hear about what you (Steve Kim) believe. Steve Kim is just an angry writer.”
After defending himself from Kim, Mosley took the time to tell me how he thinks the Marquez/Mayweather fight will shake out.
Shane insisted to me “Marquez has a chance to win. Juan is the only that has been able to rock Manny so far. He is also the only one to knock out Juan Diaz flat. Marquez has some serious hidden power.”
Mosley believes that since both Marquez and Mayweather are counter punchers, they are “both going to be playing a waiting game and this happens, Floyd will have to attack, because Marquez is too patient. And when Floyd does come forward, which he is not used to having to do, Juan will hit him because there will be openings.”
“But you should be asking the real question, ‘what kind of damage will the punches that Juan throws and lands to Floyd do to him and how will Floyd handle it?’
Though the year is already half way finished, here’s hoping that Mosley will get the nod from one of the Three Amigos (Cotto, Mayweather, Pacquaio) to dance with him before we see this year’s calendar come to a close.
Shane Mosley in a fight with any of the top three makes sense. It will draw revenue. It will be competitive and quite possibly memorable. It will pit elite fighter against elite fighter.
It will showcase the potential for just how great each of these mean can be because at the highest level, only the strong survive.
As Mosley told me, “I want the fans to enjoy themselves. I want them to get their moneys worth. I don’t want to be bored in the ring. I don’t want to chase a guy around the ring and hide because I know I can hide. I don’t want to win on points. That’s boring. I want to fight. If the guy knocks me out, so be it.”
“If he knocks me down, then good because that shows me that he is trying to win. He is trying to fight. I want to show and see heart. If the fans are having fun, then so am I.”
“I don’t see this as a job or a business. I love what I do. I do this for fun. I do it for the fans.”
And as his record has proving, he has stepped into the ring against some of boxing’s largest luminaries ranging from DelaHoya to Vargas, to Winky Wright to Cotto, Forrest, Mayorga, and Antonio Margarito.
Some he lost. Some he won. Either way, he’s still standing. He’s still here. He’s still feeding at the top of the food chain, even at the ripe age of 37.
Quick hits:
Mosley believes that Golden Boy fighter Rocky Juarez must become less “one dimensional” in order to continue to fight at the elite levels. He thinks that the rematch with Chris Johns will be exciting, but that Johns will figure out, if he hasn’t already, that Juarez only has a solid left hook as his go to weapon.
He also said that Hatton and Mayweather Sr. were not suited for one another.
“Wrong trainer. Plain and simple. Senior is a boxer’s trainer. He is very good. He can teach you bob and weave, jabs, head movement, and defense. He is really good at what he does, but Ricky is brawler. You can’t teach an old dog knew tricks.”
Regarding Juan Diaz, I asked him if the thought that Juan Diaz should have a comeback fight against a guy like Vicente Escobedo to which he said “ yes. Definitely. He should get his confidence back with a guy like Escobedo, but no matter what, he must stay active because the longer he’s out, the more he’ll think about his knock out loss to Marquez.”
Lastly, he mentioned that Golden Boy Promotions is still hoping for the best as far as undefeated junior middleweight clubber James Kirkland is concerned. Kirkland is in police custody after being caught with a handgun during a traffic stop in Austin, Texas on April 19, 2009. Kirkland is a convicted felon and looking at doing a stint in prison for violating his probation.
Mosley believes that “if it only for a year or two (prison sentence) then he can still come back and be a force. We would love to have him, but we are playing the waiting game and can’t do anything about it.”

KING WANTS CHAGAEV STRIPPED OF HIS WBA TITLE!!!
Tuesday, June 2, 2009
The always outspoken Don King told reporters yesterday that he would like the World Boxing Association to make a stand and strip Ruslan Chagaev of his title after the fighter failed a blood test prior to Saturdays defence. King also said that if this did happen then they should also make the fighter he co-promotes, Nicolay Valuev the outright champion. Chagaev has been hampered by injuries since 2003 which has seen him pull out of many fights in the past. King said. “Nobody was more familiar with his medical history than the boxer and his promoter, but they still refused to submit to multiple requests for blood tests from the Finnish Boxing Federation until late in the week before Saturday’s match. This was a risk they should not have taken. It resulted in the cancellation of a contest for the WBA heavyweight championship.”
“I wanted the WBA to strip Chagaev after the Achilles injury,” King continued. “The WBA said ‘let’s make him champion in recess’ and I saw that they were simply trying to do everything they could to help this man. It wasn’t my first choice, but I understood it.
“Now it is my job as co-promoter of Nikolai Valuev with my partners at Sauerland Event to point out that the WBA ruled Chagaev had until June 26 to face Valuev, and he did not accomplish this. The Finnish Boxing Federation rejected Chagaev for medical reasons, and the rules of the WBA clearly state that they recognize and respect the rules of the local governing authority wherever a match may take place—in this instance, Finland.”
King added, “I applaud the Finnish Commission for standing up for the health and welfare of the fighters. It goes beyond money; they chose health before wealth. I believe the WBA will do the right thing as well by announcing Nikolai Valuev as its undisputed heavyweight champion. I don’t believe the WBA will ignore the objective, empirical proof presented by the Finnish Boxing Federation.”

COTTO: IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT CLOTTEY DOES!!!
Monday, June 1, 2009
Miguel Cotto insists he will have too much for Joshua Clottey on June 13.
"It does not matter what Joshua brings, I will be ready," Cotto said, "I never wait for a easy fight, always I train hard for any rival, Joshua is not the exception, I always prepare myself for the best. I am doing everything I have to do to defeat Clottey.
"At this point of my race all my rivals are strong and there are no easy fights, but I have the confidence to win and to return with my belt to Puerto Rico."
Fighting in New York on the eve of the Puerto Rican Day Parade gives Cotto further motivation to put on a show.
"To fight in New York the day before the Parade is already a tradition in my race and I am very proud of being part of this great weekend in New York," Cotto added. "As always I hope to count on the endorsement of the people.”

MAYWEATHER WANTS 60/40 SPLIT TO FIGHT PACQUIAO!!!
Monday, June 1, 2009
Floyd Mayweather Jr ruffled a few feathers yesterday when he told various reporters that a fight with Pacquiao could only be made if he was to be given a 50/50 split or the potential lion's share of the purse.
Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, made this observation after Mayweather said “it will be a cold day in hell” before he agrees to a 50/50 split with the Filipino.
The Top Rank Supremo told the Star yesterday morning “You can tell Floyd Mayweather that Bob Arum said he’s delusional, Floyd is not the attraction. Manny is the attraction. Floyd’s got no idea what he’s talking about,”
Arum said a while back that whoever faces Pacquiao next should be happy with 30, 32 or 35 percent of the purse, and that may include Mayweather who hasn’t fought in 17 months.
“Even a 50/50 split with Floyd Mayweather is nonsense,” he said.
Pacquiao is in a very strong position in boxing at the moment with Fighters falling over themselves in an attempt to secure a match up with the Pound 4 Pound king. Cotto, Mosely and Valero have already joined Mayweather and Marquez as the list grows daily.
