That fight saw the aggressive Pacquiao firing shots from everywhere while Marquez sat back and counter punched his way through the rounds, Will this fight be any different? Well both men are older and maybe abit more wiser and we should witness a better fight, Pacquiao has become a thorn in the side of Mexican boxers beating former legends Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales soundly while Marquez also beat Barrera but as also lost to Chris John, Whatever happens this is a NOT TO BE MISSED FIGHT. |

WARREN "HAYE IS PARANOID"
Fri 7th March 2008
Frank Warren yesterday branded David Haye unprofessional after the WBC/WBO champions no show at the pre fight press conference.
David Haye turned up to the press conference over an hour after it started claiming that he didnt agree to the time, Haye told press members "I'm here when I said I would be here," he said. "They moved the time forward and I never agreed to it. We told them [Warren's company, Sports Network] a week ago when we were prepared to do it. I trained at 2am this morning and wasn't in bed until 6.30am because I need my body to be right for the fight, which will begin at 2am. I have been training in Miami and I need to keep my body clock right for the fight. Many athletes will tell you that sleep is vital and they were trying to break up my sleep pattern."
Frank Warren then responded by saying that Haye was Paranoid "I'd have arranged for a boat to get him to the O2 on time but he'd be worried about submarines," said Warren. "He and his trainer think there is some sort of conspiracy theory going on, which is mad. This is not the 1940s. My name's Frank Warren, not Frank Carbo [a mafia figure who was once a dominant force in boxing]. This is supposed to be a head-to-head and it's a head. Enzo travelled down from Wales to be here on time. I'm paying David Haye a huge amount to fight and I would have thought he would have the courtesy to be here on time out of respect to the promotion and his opponent. His behaviour has been appalling." |
BENN "THIS IS REALLY A 50/50 FIGHT"
Wed 5th March 2008
Nigel Benn has warned Enzo Maccarinelli he will lose if he goes to war with David Haye in their Battle of Britain.
Maccarinelli's showdown with Haye on Saturday is the biggest all-British world title fight since Benn-Eubank II in front of 42,000 people at Old Trafford in 1993. The Dark Destroyer, who had been stopped in the first fight, drew the rematch with Eubank and claims Big Mac should learn from his mistakes.
Former WBC super-middleweight king Benn claims he boxed with his heart instead of his head and has told Maccarinelli to be patient.
"This really is a 50/50 fight," said Benn. "If the fight is over early then I'd have to go for Haye. But the longer the bout goes on, then I'd have to switch and say that I favour Maccarinelli.
"Mac is a good body puncher, he softens his opponent up with them.
"He will try to work the body for seven or eight rounds, trying to slow Haye down, but before he gets that far he could be taken out with a thunderous right.
"Haye has phenomenal punching power and if Mac decides to go toe-to-toe with him it will be a mistake on his part.
"He shouldn't let pride get in his way in that respect. I let pride get in my way a few times when I was boxing and that's why I had so many wars."
Maccarinelli's WBO cruiserweight crown and Haye's WBC and WBA belts are on the line and Benn feels the winner of their clash at London's O2 Arena could be destined for greatness.
"Both Haye and Macc have dynamite in both hands," said Benn from his home in Spain. "I can't wait for the first bell." |
PACMAN "IM NOT GOING TO UNDERESTIMATE MARQUEZ"
Tues 4th March 2008
While counter-punching expert Juan Manuel Marquez doesn’t give Manny Pacquiao the creeps, the Filipino hotshot insists he is not taking his Mexican rival lightly.
"I am not underestimating Marquez," Pacquiao said in a radio interview from Los Angeles yesterday.
"I know for a fact that Marquez is also training very hard for this very important fight."
On March 15, before an expected overflow crowd at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Pacquiao and Marquez square off not only for the World Boxing Council (WBC) super featherweight crown but for the universal recognition of being declared the finest 130-pounder and a pound-for-pound star as well.
The two had battled to a 12-round split draw almost four years ago and Pacquiao and Marquez are aching to prove who is far superior between them.
Pacquiao, 29, revealed that while he has undoubtedly trained like never before, he expects Marquez, 34, to be in top condition as well when they answer the bell for the showdown dubbed "Unfinished Business."
With less than two weeks before the fight, Pacquiao has gone full blast in his sparring and workout and he should taper off beginning late this week in time for his departure for Sin City on March 10.
Before heading to Las Vegas, Pacquiao and Marquez will grace a press conference for the southern California press in a hotel to be determined soon.
"The Beverly Hills won’t be available on that particular time (lunchtime) so they’re trying to look for another venue," Top Rank big boss Bob Arum said yesterday.
"Manny will be joined by Freddie and a few others on the private plane," Arum, who will be on the same flight, said.
Meanwhile, Arum bared that "for the first time in Pacquiao’s career," there’ll be closed circuit TV in at least two Vegas hotels.
"We won’t be selling tickets for the closed circuit until three days before the fight. There are less than a thousand (venue) tickets left and we expect a sellout," said the 76-year-old Harvard-educated lawyer.. |
ENZO SENDS A WARNING TO HAYE!!!
Tues 4th March 2008
Welshman Enzo Maccarinelli says there will be nowhere for David Haye to hide when they clash in London on Saturday night.
WBO champion Maccarinelli will face WBA/WBC strap holder Haye at the O2 Arena on Saturday night in an eagerly-anticipated cruiserweight clash.
There have been reports of 'The Hayemaker' changing gyms and hotels regularly whilst in the USA to avoid being spied on.
Haye has also refused to name where a press event on Tuesday will take place until the very last minute to avoid giving secrets away.
Maccarinelli has taken the opportunity to claim that Haye is running scared, but said there would be no place to hie inside the ring on Saturday.
"It sounds as if Haye is running scared - but there'll be no hiding place on Saturday night," said Maccarinelli.
"To be honest I don't need to spy on Haye because I know exactly how to beat him, and have done for ages.
"Don't get me wrong, he's a great champion and I've got a lot of respect for him, but there's only one winner in this fight and that's me." |
VASQUEZ TOPS MARQUEZ IN CLASSIC!!!
Sun 2nd March 2008
In one of the greatest trilogies of modern times both Isreal Vasquez or Rafael Marquez didnt disappoint again as both men put on great displays in front of a packed arena in Carson, California.
At the end of the twelve rounds it was Isreal Vasquez who took the nod from the judges winning the contest by split decision which give him a 2-1 win throughout the three fights.
The fight Itself was everything to be expected with Marquez throwing the more punches but Vasquez landing bombs and in turn both men on the canvas.
The first knockdown was in round four with Marquez connecting with a barrage of punches that left Vasquez on the canvas, after the knockdown the fight went back and fourth with both men digging deep to show some great boxing, The second knockdown was the turning point which saw Vasquez up the ante and left Marquez this time on the canvas, I say the twelfth round was the turning point because the knockdown added with the deducted point Marquez received in round ten took the points on the judges scorecards.
The Scores at the end of the twelve rounds were 113-112, 114-111 Vazquez, 114-111 Marquez. Both men showed after the tactical display of Klitchko last week that this is why we love the sport of boxing so much and again it took two Mexican worrier's to show us this.
