PACQUIAO V FOREMAN A POSSIBILITY!!!

Monday, November 30, 2009

Manny Pacquiao may fight Yuri Foreman before taking on Floyd Mayweather Jr, trainer Freddie Roach has revealed.

Freddy Roach has accused Mayweather's camp of dragging their heels and is weighing up the option of first pitting Pacquiao against Foreman, the Israeli who currently holds the WBA light-middleweight belt.

"We want to fight in March and we don't really want to wait," Roach said. "Mayweather doesn't want to fight in March, so we might fight for the 154lbs title in March and move up for that eighth world title. I'm thinking about that still and it's something that I'm kicking around in my head right now.

"Yuri Foreman might be the opponent. It is a possibility, and then Mayweather in September. If they guarantee me that, we'll do that, but I need more of a commitment from Mayweather because he's not negotiating too well.

When asked whether he believes the fight should be made Roach replied saying "It has to happen, and with the money they are going to make out of it, I feel it will happen. Mayweather can't make that money with anybody else."

Roach is fully confident that if the fight is made, his man (Pacquiao) will triumph.

"Offence wins fights. He (Mayweather) has a great defence, you don't score points with defence," Roach said.

"I have a good game-plan for Mayweather. I have studied him hard and I know him pretty well.

"He's very difficult and he gives us problems but I think we can get to him. We can match his speed and our footwork is a little better than his so I think we can excel in those spots.

"Obviously it's a tough fight but I think we can get to him and break him down.

"He (Mayweather) is a great fighter and the retirement was just to make his price go up. He's just playing games. He never left the gym - he trained the whole time. He's not going to retire for a long time."

GREEN: JONES HAS UNDERESTIMATED ME

Monday, November 30, 2009

Danny Green believes he has been underestimated by boxing legend Roy Jones Jr ahead of Wednesday's world title showdown at Sydney's Acer Arena.

The pair came face to face at the official press conference at Star City Casino on Monday, two days out from the International Boxing Organisation cruiserweight title fight, with both insisting they were 100 per cent ready and relaxed.

"Do I think he's underestimated me? Yes," Green said. I think everyone's underestimated me. Roy is the raging favourite and rightly so on his career and his achievements and his ability as a fighter. So yeah of course I'm the underdog but that's going to work in my favour. I know what I'm up against, I know what I'm about to face and I'm cool with that."

Green insisted there was no animosity between the two fighters, but said it was a different story with Jones' manager McGee Wright after he made personal comments about Green's team in the media.

McGee, when briefly allowed by Jones to speak, didn't mince his words when asked his opinion of the fight.

"There ain't one doubt in my mind, Roy Jones will knock Danny Green out, no question," McGee said.

Jones Jr, who calmly listened to his iPod during the formalities of the press conference, was not so blunt believing he was in for a much tougher assignment than his convincing win over Jeff Lacy in August.

"This is a bit of a tougher task than Jeff Lacy was,"Jones said. "It's a bigger guy comin at me, a stronger guy, a much quicker guy."

HOPE CLAIMS RACIAL ABUSE!!!

Thursday, November 26, 2009

Merthyr born boxer, Kerry Hope claims that his recent loss last Saturday was unjust and claims racial abuse was handed to him before the bout where spectators in attendance booed the Welsh national anthem.

The 28-year-old Hope lost out on the vacant World Boxing Foundation International super middleweight belt to unbeaten American Caleb Truax in Minnesota last Friday with all three judges scoring the 10-round bout 97-93 to Hope’s opponent.

Speaking to various reporters from his base at the Talon Boxing gym in California, Hope said: “I don’t understand that decision. It was ridiculous. The fight was close but the result doesn’t reflect how the fight went. I won that fight. For me it’s all down to boxing politics and there is far too much of that in this sport.

“It was a vacant title, we should have fought at a neutral venue. Instead we fought in his hometown and that showed in the decision.”

Hope went on to say that he wasnt too happy with his overall performance but influences outside of the ring tilted the fight for the now newly crowned champion.

“I was going into his backyard and he was unbeaten and there were titles up for grabs so there were a lot of expectations on my shoulders,” added Hope.“I was going forward all the time and he was on the back foot. I got caught with a few stupid shots but I was the better boxer. Every time he landed a shot the crowd made a racket and I think that influenced the judges when they made their decision.

“What made it worse was that before the fight I acknowledged the American national anthem when it was played but the crowd booed me constantly and I was racially abused too.

“That was out of order and you don’t expect to be abused in that sort of way.”

Hope went on to say he didnt have any long-term plans but will use the festive period to think about what he intends doing next.

“I’ll have Christmas to myself in Merthyr and take some time to decide where I go next,” said Hope, who now has a record of three defeats and 12 wins from 15 outings. It gets you down so much. You put in all that effort and at the end of the fight you can’t get a fair result. It’s disheartening.

“I’m not going to make any quick decisions about my future. I’ve lost three of my last four fights now and I don’t take to losing too well.”

SALITA: KHAN IS VULNERABLE

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

Dmitriy Salita says he intends to take advantage of WBA light-welterweight champion Amir Khan’s vulnerable chin when the pair meet on December 5.

“His chin is definitely an area of vulnerability,” Salita told BBC Sport. “It’s not just because of Prescott that he’s vulnerable. He has been knocked down a whole bunch of other times.”

Salita is unbeaten in 31 fights, with 16 knockouts will be the opponent for Khan’s first defence of the WBA title he won in July after beating Andreas Kotelnik in Manchester.

It is a step up in class for Salita but the 27-year-old feels it is Khan who will have the nagging doubts going into the fight.

“He definitely has a seed of doubt because of the Prescott defeat,” said Salita, who is based in Brooklyn, New York.

ERDEI, FRAGOMENI SPEAKS!!!

Monday, November 23, 2009

WBC cruiserweight champion Zsolt Erdei:

“It’s difficult to find the right words. I can say that. Everything I experienced before the fight was really the limit. I knew that I cound do it, but I didn’t know it would be sooo hard. After the fourth round, I was out of breath. I tortured myself. Thanks to Fritz, and also to my doctors that they helped me endure this difficult situation with my short-term mild flu. Also hats off to Mr. Fragomeni. He showed his fighting heart. I realize, as the judges did, that I narrowly won the fight, except for the one that saw it as a draw. This was a really fair fight. After the fight he told me that I am the true champion even before the ring announcer lifted my arm. For me this was a correct recognition. Thanks for the fight, thank you for the opportunity.

“I’m thinking about the future, but for now I’ll pause and celebrate Christmas. But I think I have enough strength left and in the future we’ll see what we can do.

“As a child I collected pictures and Muhammad Ali was in some. Now, his image is emblazoned on my WBC belt. That makes me very happy. Ali is my role model, but somehow I can’t feel it yet. It’s all too unrealistic. I can’t understand it! ”

Former champion Giacobbe Fragomeni

“I have great respect for Zsolt. It was a great fight. It was my fault for starting so slowly in the early rounds. I was better at the end, it was then a very close battle. Now I want a rematch!”

Trainer Fritz Sdunek:

“I’ve aged a few years and now have more white hair. When I heard Zsolt coughing today, I thought ‘what good is it?” How he coped with the flu was insane. Thanks to the whole team who supported him so he could endure this. Even the thought of his family drove him forward. We knew we were taking a risk. I looked at Fragomeni, I knew he wasn’t bigger and we could do it.”

Klaus-Peter Kohl:

“Maybe now we’ll go to heavyweight, won’t we Zsolt?

Zsolt Erdei:

Bring on Nikolai Valuev!“

Klaus-Peter Kohl:

“The mood in the hall was great. Vitali Tajbert, at the end of the event late at night had it the hardest, but he still took all the spectators to the end. Dimitri Sartison I would have liked to see even longer. He’s a very great boxer. The bill with Kessler is still open, and Sartison has learned a lot. For us it was important to win the title. What the WBA will order now we don’t know. At some point this fight can come. Dimitri will continue to grow.” (Note: Mikkel Kessler was dethroned by Andre Ward later that night.)

Interim WBC super featherweight champion Vitali Tajbert:

It’s very hard to believe that I’m world champion. Thanks to all who were involved. This is not just my credit, but a credit to my whole team, my coaches, and my promoters Klaus-Peter Kohl and Dietmar Poszwa.

Former champion Humberto Gutierrez:

Thank you for this fight. I’m only 20 years old, very young. I think that my promoter has a plan for me. I lost. Vitali won by doing more boxing and deserves it. I would still like to come back to Germany.

Klaus-Peter Kohl:

In the last four or five rounds, he boxed so relaxed I thought he might still have a few rounds of boxing left.

Trainer Magomed Schaburow:

We knew that Humberto is always strong in the first half. Our game plan worked very well.

WBA super middleweight world champion Dimitri Sartison:

“Thank you for the many congratulations. My dream has finally came true and I’ve become world champion. I still can’t believe it. I’m speechless. Of course, I feel like a true champion, although I have a score to settle with Kessler – but yes, I feel this way.”

Coach Magomed Schaburow:

“The fighter is speechless, I’m KO’d. I still need some time to process everything, but we are very excited about this evening.”

PACQUIAO V COTTO A PPV SUCCESS!!!

Friday, November 20, 2009

Manny Pacquiao vs Miguel Cotto last Saturday was a massive hit at the box office selling 1.25 million pay-per-views.

The fight made the top 10 of best-selling pay-per-view boxing events and beat the 1.05 million figure created by Mayweather for his September comeback fight against Juan Manuel Marquez.

HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg said Friday the fight grossed $70 million, with 650,000 buys coming from cable television homes and 600,000 from satellite television viewers. It was helped by a record 110,000 buys from Puerto Rico, Cotto's home.

VALERO WANTS CRACK AT PACQUIAO!!!

Friday, November 20, 2009

Undefeated WBC lightweight champion Edwin Valero believes he is capable of beating Manny Pacquiao in the future.

Valero, who has recorded 25 knockout wins in his 25 bouts to date, is scheduled to defend his title against Mexican challenger Hector Velazquez next month in Venezuela.

He said: "I feel good and I'm getting ready as always to give the best to the public, especially now that my fight will be here in Venezuela.

"God willing our hand will be raised and then our next fight will be with Antonio DeMarco, the interim champion.

"Every fight is important to me, and what matters is winning. I keep waiting for Manny Pacquiao to give me the opportunity. I think I'm the man who can beat him and I'm the only one with the power in his hands to win."

ARUM: MAYWEATHER RUNNING SCARED

Friday, November 20, 2009

Top Rank Promoter Bob Arum has upped the stakes in regards to a Manny Pacquiao v Floyd Mayweather Jr super fight by telling media worldwide his opinion, that Floyd Mayweather is scared of the match up and what it would do to his unbeaten record.

"You have to understand Mayweather's psyche. Psychologically he may not be prepared to do this fight," said Arum.

"Now this is me being an amateur psychologist, but Mayweather is so tied up with the fact that nobody has beaten him, that he has a zero on his record, I don't know if he would be willing to go into the ring with anybody that could jeopardise that zero.

"He is afraid, terrified of losing that zero.

"That's why he's ducked (Shane) Mosely, (Antonio) Margarito and Cotto, and the question is will he duck Manny Pacquiao because he's so afraid of losing that zero."

Pacquiao arrived back in Manilla yesterday where he was again greeted with a hero's welcome. He told Mayweather that he should be the one challenging for a fight.

"We are not pushing the fight. He should be the first to challenge me, after all I got a higher pay-per-view from my fight," Pacquiao told the waiting media.

"It's not so much that I give a damn whether this fight happens - I don't - and for me it's not the greatest experience doing a promotion with Floyd Mayweather," Arum added.

"But boxing is on such a roll now, not to do this fight would slow down considerably the momentum that boxing has, and that would be wrong."

kHAN NOT INTERESTED IN PACQUIAO BOUT!!!

Thursday, November 19, 2009

Amir Khan has poured cold water on a possible future showdown with pound-for-pound superstar and friend Manny Pacquiao.

Bolton light-welterweight Khan, who holds the WBA world title, trains with Pacquiao under Freddie Roach in Los Angeles and the pair regularly spar.

"Me and Manny train together, we have the same trainer and everything. I totally respect him and what a great performance he produced at the weekend," said Khan. "As for fighting him in the future, I can't really see that happening."

KESSLER V WARD PRESSER!!!

Thursday, November 19, 2009

WBA Super Middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler and the undefeated Andre Ward took part in a free public press conference yesterday ahead of their Super Six showdown this Saturday at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif.

Here is what all parties had to say:

MIKKEL KESSLER

“I’ve been here before so I am loving it in California. I have thoroughly enjoyed my entire stay here, living in a nice house and training in Sacramento.

“I want to thank everyone involved in making this fight possible and for the nice words from their camp. But now I am ready to fight. I didn’t come all the way from Denmark to lose and I am fully prepared and 150 percent ready. I’m in better shape now than I’ve ever been.

“I have had only one defeat and that was to Joe Calzaghe and it still eats at me today. Even thinking about that fight makes me even more motivated. That’s why I am looking at this fight as a second chance to prove that I am the best.

“I hurt my hand and had only two weeks to spar for Calzaghe, but there will be no mistakes or excuses after this one. I may be 30 but I have a lot of fight left. Saturday night can’t come soon enough.’’

ANDRE WARD

”It’s about time. I approach all my fights the same. Every fight I had as an amateur, I took seriously. But obviously the stakes are much higher. I have prepared for a fight like this since I was nine years old.

“To see this kind of turnout today and the tremendous support I am getting only confirms what I know, and that Saturday will be a special night for me and the city of Oakland. There was a lot of buzz before my last fight here (in May on SHOWTIME), but there is a lot more excitement going around for this one.

“To have my alma mater come out today is extremely invigorating and I thank them very much. I go to the school and talk on occasion but I plan to go more often from now on.

“The feeling I get looking in the kids’ eyes, the feeling I get from them maybe thinking that, “hey, if he can make it, I can make it, too’’ is inspiring. It is more than just about boxing; it is about life and doing the right things to inspire kids, or fire them up, to make oneself want to be successful.

“If I can make a few change, it has been worthwhile. But it is also a two-way street. I thank God every day. That is who I am.

“No one expected me to win the Olympics. No one expected to me to get this far as a pro. But, now, if I win, it is because I’m supposed to, and if I ever lose, it’s a huge thing.

“I’m thrilled for everybody Saturday night and really anxious for the fight to be here.’’

PROMOTER DAN GOOSSEN OF GOOSSEN TUTOR PROMOTIONS

“It's extraordinary to have promoters working together like we are in the Super Six. The real caveat is that this is what every sport needs.

‘In my opinion, this Saturday the two best super middleweights are going to face off against each other. I applaud Mikkel Kessler for coming to Andre's hometown to defend his title.

‘It's been a long road with Andre Ward to get here. (But) it's the perfect time for Andre Ward. Every great fighter learns to hone their craft. On Saturday, Virgil Hunter is going to take recognition in being the top trainer who helped Andre hone in on his skills.

“Andre was homegrown when he went to the Olympics in 2004. He sacrificed. He has got his opportunity Saturday night. He is a respectable family guy, down to earth and a perfect fit for a respectable politician. He embodies all of those elements. Andre is going to make it fashionable to be a classy young man.

“Saturday night we will see Andre Ward bring the title not only home to Oakland but to American soil.’’

PROMOTER WILFRIED SAUERLAND OF SAUERLAND EVENT

“I am pretty sure the fight will not last as long as the press conference. It is a pleasure to be here and we will see a great fight Saturday. Ward is unbeaten and very strong, but his previous accomplishments, including the Olympic gold medal, will not help him against Mikkel Kessler. I have promoted five Olympic gold medal winners but that does not mean that you become a world champion, so Andre can try in his second world title fight to leave the ring as the winner. He is a strong fighter but he has never been in the ring with someone of Mikkel´s class.

“I have had two meetings with Dan Goossen and it is 2-0 for us at the time being so we are looking to make it 3-0 on Saturday.

“One thing I want to point out. We will not accept Dan´s choice of judges. He has done a great job to get his fighter three fights at home, but now he has appointed three judges from California. Needless to say, we will not accept his friends and colleagues judging this fight, so he better starts moving because it takes a while to bring in new judges.

“The WBA has written a strong letter to the Californian commission that the choice of judges is unacceptable but the Californian commission has been somewhat hard to reach. The WBA has been trying to contact them, sending faxes and everything. If this issue is not sorted, we can have a Super Six fight, but Mikkel´s world title will not be on the line.”

GOOSSEN’S COMMENT ON JUDGES

"Our company (Goossen Tutor Promotions) has nothing to do with picking officials. Whoever the WBA and the commission appoint is what we go with...The only man I want to see walking out of the ring is the real champion without any sort of interference."

PROMOTER KALLE SAUERLAND OF SAUERLAND EVENT

“It’s great to be in Oakland. We’re very happy to be here. We expect a great fight and a great crowd. We hope the fans will be fair … hostile, but fair. But Mikkel has fought in front of 55,000 fans on the road
so he’ll be ready. We have a lot of respect for Ward, who is a tough opponent, but Mikkel will beat him. He’s had the best preparation of his life and Ward will find out what that means on Saturday.”

“We are thrilled to have Mikkel on board at Team Sauerland. We have lost against him twice with our German fighters, Markus Beyer and Danilo Haussler, so let me tell you, I’m really pleased to be in Mikkel´s corner. I would not want to be anywhere else. The Viking Warrior will put on a great show on Saturday.”

WARD’S TRAINER VIRGIL HUNTER

"I have been working with Andre Ward since before his 2004 Olympic gold medal victory. My position is a little different from the Olympics.

"We have a formidable task in front us. Kessler’s a real champion; all accolades he gets, he deserves.

"Years ago, I got a call from a friend to turn on (TV). He said that the fighter that was on (Kessler) is going to turn boxing around. I did turn the television on and I was fascinated. I put Mikkel Kessler in my mental rolodex and my mind processed and unfolded and I began to develop a real respect for him.

"I knew this day would come (when Ward would come to face him) so I began following him and watching his fight against Calzaghe in Wales and I noticed two things: I kept waiting for him to make adjustments and he didn't and I also noticed that he never stopped fighting.

"Pressure, more pressure, is what I kept hearing. I was disappointed last week when I heard a former publicist say Mikkel Kessler went to Wales with a bad back and broken hand. I wanted to hear that the best man won. I just want to say I don't want to hear excuses that something broke or that something was out of place.

"We know what's ahead of us. We know we got a real champ in our way and we know that things will never be the same after Saturday night."

HOPKINS PHILLY WORKOUT!!!

Wednesday, November 18, 2009

Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins yesterday took part in an open media workout at the Joe Hand Boxing Gym where he is preparing for “The Broad Street Brawl”, his December 2 bout against Enrique Ornelas at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, PA which will be broadcast live on VERSUS. “Enrique Ornelas is a Mexican fighter. They fight with guts; it’s in their DNA and Enrique has a lot to gain and nothing to lose,” stated Hopkins. “He wants to come make a name off of me on December 2nd.

Hopkins stated, “The future of boxing in Philly is currently at a standstill. What better way to jumpstart it than with Bernard Hopkins? “We haven’t had monthly shows in Philly for a long time, since the early 90’s when it used to be packed on Broad Street. I put a lot of pressure on myself to stay motivated because I’m motivated by the future. This is the future of boxing and the future of boxing in Philadelphia.”

Hopkins remains brilliantly conditioned. “This was not any harder this year than last year or the year before last,” he commented. “On December 2nd, you’re going to see how well I took care of myself over all of these years because I’m two months shy of my forty-fifth birthday.”

HATTON EYEING COMEBACK AGAINST MARQUEZ

Wednesday, November 18, 2009

Former world champion Ricky Hatton is poised to make a comeback in 2010, eyeing a May showdown with the Mexican counter puncher Juan Manuel Marquez.

It was thought that Ricky may be ready to hang up his gloves confessing after his knockout loss to Manny Pacquiao that he had lost the hunger for the sport, for the last few months Ricky has been getting that hunger back and it now seems he is ready to return against a very tricky fighter.

Hatton Promotions chief executive Gareth Williams said: ‘It would be an ideal fight for Ricky to take on Marquez. He is an elite fighter, just like Ricky, who will want to challenge the best.’

It is thought Hatton will start a vert strict dieting and training programme in January / February to help shed his excess weight

KESSLER, WARD OPEN WORKOUT QUOTES!!!

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

MIKKEL KESSLER

“Ward is a real gentleman. He doesn’t talk trash. The best fighters I have fought are like him. It’s going to be a great fight on Saturday night.

“He’s a great, young fighter. He reminds me a lot of myself when I was his age. I won my first world title at 24, but I’m more experienced in a lot of different ways. I can see that he is hungry, has good speed and good technique. He’s a good fighter.

“I think my strengths are also speed and my experience. I have double the fights he has and I have had a lot of big fights.

“You can pick things up from all kinds of bouts. We all have different skills. I don’t see all of the big fights (in the United States) because I am busy and it’s more difficult (to see them) in Europe, but we have good fights in Europe, too.

“I have a lot of things to do (during his down time in fight week). There are places that I like to eat; I have to do a lot of media events. The more time off I have, the more I have to relax and watch movies.”

On tapering off closer to the fight

“You relax a little bit and you don’t have to train twice a day anymore. I will go for a half an hour or an hour a day and that’s it.

“I’m not the kind of guy who watches tape. I watched some of his fights a couple times and we talked about it. I’m well prepared.”

ANDRE WARD

“People are often surprised when they fight me. You see one thing and get in the ring and see something different. (Edison) Miranda told me in the locker room after the fight that he thought I would be a lot easier than I was and I’ve heard that a lot during my career, even going back to the amateurs. I have no idea what it is about my style, but they would hear I was the No. 1 guy and see me fight and say ‘that’s Ward?’ We do it in such a way that it looks easy until they get in the ring with me.

“This is what it’s all about, I’ve been at the highest level as an amateur and now I’m preparing for my first world title fight as a professional. I see all you guys (media on hand) and I know what a big fight is all about. I’m ready.”

On Fighting at Home

“It’s incredible to have this fight at home and the support here has been outstanding. A lot of people say that boxing is dead in Oakland. There used to be two or three gyms full of boxers here. Boxing was a huge thing and to see the excitement for this fight here in Oakland and in the Bay Area and to give them something positive to support, I’m excited about that.

“As the fight gets closer, I draw into myself more. I envision what it would feel like to leave the arena with the belt and what it would feel like to leave without the belt. I’m doing everything I can to leave the Oracle Arena with the WBA strap on Saturday night.

“I’m eating just fine. We don’t do sauna or anything like that. I’m doing OK on weight, but I am looking forward to the weigh-in.

“We’ve had a game plan for the past nine weeks, since the last fight. We have a general plan but at the end of the day, it’s going to be about getting in there and being myself, being Andre Ward. The days that you go in there and try to be perfect are usually your worst days, but the days that you go in there and say I’m going to have fun and do what I do are generally your best.

“We go back and look at every fight. We saw mistakes in the Miranda fight and we’ve corrected those.’’

On tapering down close to the fight

“As far as the physical side, things have toned down. We are at our peak. It is tempting for a fighter to over-prepare. I don’t think we’ve done that. I think we are right where we need to be. That comes with experience. This is my 21st fight and we’re beginning to master all of the aspects of preparing for a fight from the weight to handling media appearances.’’

In response to Kessler’s trainer saying Andre doesn’t like to get hit

“I don’t think anybody likes to get hit. Miranda hit me more than I would have liked in my last fight. but I responded and came right back. Who has hit Mikkel Kessler clean? Who has really caught him so we could see what his chin is really like? Joe Calzaghe isn’t a puncher.”

PROMOTER DAN GOOSEN OF GOOSSEN TUTOR PROMOTIONS

“This is just like Andre Ward’s run to the gold medal, but in the pro ranks. On his path to gold, no one gave him a shot, everyone else was the favorite, and this is the same situation. They are all picking Kessler and for good reason -- he’s a great, experienced champion. We have all the confidence in the world that Saturday night will make history.

“He’s (Ward) very smart in the ring. He knows when to jab, he knows when to move and he does it with speed. Experience is great against someone who hasn’t experienced everything Andre learned at the Olympics.

“All you have to do is have your hand raised at the end of the night and when he does, his demeanor will come back ten-fold. Andre is going to make being classy fashionable.”

PROMOTER WILFRIED SAUERLAND OF SAUERLAND EVENT

“For me there are three favorites to win the Super Six World Boxing Classic – Mikkel Kessler, Arthur Abraham and Andre Ward. It will be important to start the group stages with a victory. Obviously, Ward has the tremendous advantage of fighting at home – that is a big help.

“Ward has a tremendous unbeaten run. His Olympic gold medal as well as his professional record speak volumes about his class. He is certainly a very special fighter but one does not know where his boundaries are. He has never been tested and he has never fought someone like Mikkel, so Saturday will be Ward´s first big test.

“In my opinion the difference between the two fighters is Mikkel´s huge experience and also his
well-known punching power. So for me Kessler is the favorite but only just as you cannot be too sure because we don´t know where Ward is at and what his limits are.

“Obviously for Mikkel, Saturday´s fight will be as important as the clash against Calzaghe and I am sure he will make a great fight.”

PAUL WILLIAMS, SERGIO MARTINEZ TRANSCRIPT

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

Dan Goossen: There are a little different dynamics coming into this fight. As everyone knows and I won’t go into much detail but Paul was supposed to fight Pavlik in Atlantic City on October 3 and again on December 5 in Atlantic City and it was cancelled again. We are just happy that we were able to put everything together with Paul and Sergio Martinez. More importantly, I think Paul Williams has always been an east coast fighter but he has fought so much on the west coast, mainly because he has west coast promoters. I have told Ken Condon and the people at Caesars that Paul is going to be the biggest star that Atlantic City is going to get behind for the next few years. I believe he is the most exciting fighter in the sport today. It’s been a few years since we promoted in Atlantic City and it is great to have this fight there especially to showcase Paul Williams in it.

Lou DiBella: I would like to take umbrage in what you just saud, that this is a showcase for Paul Williams…I think he is the most avoided fighter between 147 and 168 pounds. I think he is a threat to everyone with his imposing physical size and his work rate…the guy is a great fighter. But he is fighting a great champion and on December 5, martinez is going to prove to the world that he is the dominant fighter at that weight class, at 154. I think AC is looking for fighters like Paul, I agree with that but more importantly they are starving for great fights. Right here we have a great match-up and a very difficult fight for Paul and I’ve got to give Paul and his entire team credit for taking this fight because frankly it is a much more difficult fight than a Pavlik fight with less reward. He could have fought a lesser opponent, but if you beat Sergio you will be making a statement because we believe you will be fighting one of the best fighters in the world.

Dan Goossen: Lou, I make no slight to Sergio, I have been telling everyone that Sergio Martinez is a much bigger risk than a Kelly Pavlik in our eyes. On the other hand, we have so much confidence in Paul’s ability and we know that styles make fights, but Paul is different in that he takes control and makes everyone fight his fight.

Lou DiBella: I agree and I know that your family knows enough about boxing that Sergio Martinez is a much more difficult fight that Kelly Pavlik whom I thought that Paul was going to cut right through.

Sergio Martinez: Training has been going very well. I have been working hard. Ihave been in camp for five weeks now and I am in great condition. This week I will begin sparring. I have been training for this Williams fight like I have no other and right now things are going perfectly.

Paul Williams: Sergio is a big threat and he brings a great challenge. So I have to do what I always do, I have to eliminate that threat. He is very fast so I will have to impose my will, like I always do when I get in there…control the fight. I have not seen much of Martinez, except for the Cintron fight. That is the only fight I have seen of his. My trainer will watch the tapes and put together a game plan for me and I will follow that plan. I don’t like watching tapes of guys that I am going to fight because you watch them do things then they come in and do something else.

Dan Goossen: I felt it was important to kee this fight on the east coast and Al Haymon and George and Paul and I all worked hard to find an opponent that was a reputable challenge and obviously we found it in Sergio Martinez. There was a lot of disappointment that Pavlik was not the fight but I always believed that Paul was the star so we are still moving in that direction. We are going to have Paul showcased against a tougher challenge. We did have other venues available to us out on the west coast but from day 1 was to keep the fight in Atlantic City. Outside of the great sandwiches at the White House, we needed to get Paul in there for the fans of New York and Philadelphia and especially the casinos in Atlantic City to see what a fun talent he is and one they can get behind.

How does it affect camp when a fight gets cancelled and then have to fight a guy with a different style?

Paul Williams: The only difference is needed to get rid of all the right-handed sparring partners then bring in southpaws. That’s just part of boxing – you have to deal with the good and the bad and I think this works out for the best.

How will Sergio combat the height and reach advantage?

Sergio Martinez: The difference is going to be how rapid I fight. I am very fast. I am much faster than Paul Williams and I am going to throw a lot more pnches and that’s going to be the big difference.

Has the Pavlik camp contacted you regretting the cancellations?

Dan Goossen: No. We don’t need it or expect it and we certainly prepared ourselves for another cancellation. We wouldn’t play with a serious thing such as a staph infection. On the other hand we have also heard some stories that come hell or high water we didn’t think he was going to be in that ring come December 5th. As you know, Clottey andQuintana were also going to be on the show originally along with Sergio just to insure that Paul wasn’t in another training camp and left with the news that Paul was pulling out.

Since Pavlik was being cultivated to be the next AC fighter after Gatti…have you heard that Pavlik will not be able to fight again?

Dan Goossen: We haven’t heard anything like that. Quite frankly, this was a blessing in disguise. Paul, I believe, was the meat and potatoes of the Pavlik fight and I believe he was ready to demonstrate that. Now, Paul goes to Atlantic City and Sergio wants to have his opportunity and we are going to show why Paul is the most feared fighter in the world on December 5th. Now keep in mind I think he is one of the most exciting fighters around…we’ve got some exciting fighters out there…we are going to see an exciting fight this coming weekend and the following weekend with Ward. There are a lot of great fighters out there. Paul Williams brings something that we don’t get to see and that is three minutes of pure punching power and activity, and Lou touched on this a little, here is this man that is a natural 147-pounder that is willing to fight anyone from 147 to 160. One thing I disagree with Lou on is that I don’t like to hear people say he is the most avoidable fighter…Winky Wright was the most avoided and that was because of his style. Same thing with Sergio and what he just said about his style that people avoid him. With Paul, they don’t avoid him, they fear him because of his aggressiveness, his punching power, his activity. There is a big difference between being avoided and being feared. When we made this fight with Martinez, he’s got to be congratulated because he will be in the ring with who no one wants to be in the ring with. It gives us the opportunity to make Paul Williams the star and continue this for him.

How much has Sergio’s style changed since his last fight with Margarito?

Sergio Martinez: I have matured a lot since my fight with Margarito. It has been almost 10years and I have changed a lot, mainly because of my fight against Kermit Cintron which made me a much tougher and a lot more confident.

How will it be fighting another left-hander, since your only loss was against a left-hander?

Paul Williams: I think I proved that in my second fight with Quintana. It’s not that I have trouble with left-handers, I just had an off-night that night. I made up for that in the second fight. I look at all fighters the same. I don’t think it is difficult fighting a left-hander. It doesn’t matter if he is a right-hander or a left-hander. I just deal with the fighter that is in front of me.

I think all the fights are tough fights. I can say that Sergio will move and Kelly will stand still. That’s all I can say about that, but we are working on things that will handle that. We have sparring partners that will handle that.

Have you seen tapes of Sergio?

Paul Williams: I don’t really watch tapes because fighters can always change what they do in the ring for different fights.

Sergio, how do you think you will be able to win this fight?

Sergio Martinez: For me going up in weight really doesn’t affect me. It makes me feel stronger and I know I will still have my speed, so I don’t really see any disadvantages. Also, being that I am always well conditioned, it doesn’t matter that I have taken this fight on short notice.

Will Sergio stay at middleweight or go back down again to defend the 154-ound title?

Sergio Martinez: I would consider staying at middleweight and would love to fight Kelly Pavlik because for sure I will win against Williams.

Paul Williams: Well they all talk like that until they get in the ring when the bell rings. And start taking all the punches that I am throwing. I am happy that he is confident and I know in my heart that this is a big test for me. That’s why my team and I are training hard for this fight.

How do you beat a Paul Williams?

Sergio Martinez: I am going to win by knockout and I am sure of it. I am in the best shape of my life at the best time of my career. I am a lot faster than Paul and I don’t take as many hits as he does so that will really do well for me in this fight.

Lou DiBella: Sergio has never lacked confidence so he believes what he is saying so maybe Paul is the one that is in trouble.

George Peterson: Well, Sergio can do all he wants. He will move a lot. The time is right and we will have no problems with that. That is basically what we are working on. We don’t get caught up in that, we are training for a twelve-round fight. He has been knocked out once, that that proves he can be knocked out again so we basically strategize for that. Paul has all the advantages and he also has the will to win and to be the greatest. Paul can also make the necessary adjustments. He can adjust to what the opponent does in front of him. When you have a guy that is not one-dimensional. We are very confident about going in there and stopping this guy. He has no pop and it is evident that Paul has a chin made of granite. We don’t know how long this guy is going to withstand this punishment.

Sergio said he was going to knock Paul out…

George Peterson: It will be in his dreams because it won’t be on December 5th. He hasn’t knocked anybody out, no sir.

Paul Williams: I am glad that his confidence is such as that. We will have a fight

George Peterson: Sergio has never seen a fighter such as Paul. We are glad that he has that attitude. That is the attitude that we need for Paul to knock him out.

Sergio Martinez: This is going to be the first time that Paul encounters an opponent that attacks like I do. He has never been up against somebody like me that has my mentality and he is going to know why I am the champion at 154-pounds.

George Peterson: Well he is no Vernon Phillips and Vernon couldn’t know Paul out. Sharmbe Mitchell attacked him, as long as it lasted. That is the strategy that he definitely doesn’t want to do. He should keep that jack-rabbit strategy that he doesn’t. He doesn’t want to attack Paul. But we definitely want him to think that way, no doubt.

MAYWEATHER JR: PACQUIAO oNE DIMENSIONAL

Monday, November 16, 2009

Floyd Mayweather Jr has called Manny Pacquiao "One Dimensional" and challenged the Filipino superstar to “step up to the plate” and face him in what would be one of the biggest fights of any era.

Pacquiao made history on the weekend capturing his seventh world title in different weight divisions when he stopped Miguel Cotto in the 12th round on Saturday.

Mayweather told Sky Sports he recognised weaknesses in Pacquiao’s performance: “"The thing is with Pacquiao I don't see any versatility as a fighter; he's a good puncher but just one-dimensional."

“Money” Mayweather claims he would receive little credit for beating the Filipino superstar because he is expected to win.

"I'm in a no-win situation. If I beat Manny Pacquiao do you know what they are going to say? 'You are supposed to beat him, you are Floyd Mayweather, you are the bigger man'. If I knock him out they'll say 'you're supposed to knock him out he's been knocked out before'.

"I'm in a no-win situation and when I beat him no one is going to be surprised because he's been beaten before. Whatever I do to Pacquiao has been done before, he's been beaten on three occasions. And if I knock him out I don't want the world shouting because he's been knocked out twice before.

"The world's going to go 'wow' if Floyd Mayweather gets beaten. That's what everyone is looking to see."

Mayweather also thinks that Pacquiao was evasive when asked about a showdown with him.

"When they asked Manny Pacquiao 'would you like to fight Floyd Mayweather' he said talk to my promoter. They didn't ask your promoter they asked you, what do you want to do?

"Manny Pacquiao was asked the same question 'do you want to fight Floyd Mayweather' three times. This is something the world is trying to force on him. If he wants to fight Floyd Mayweather all he has to do is step up to the plate."

KESSLER ARRIVES IN SAN FRANCISCO!!!

Monday, November 16, 2009

WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler arrived in San Francisco in the early hours of Sunday morning. He left Sacramento after watching the Pacquiao-Cotto clash. “That was a great fight,” he said. “I have the utmost of respect for both fighters. They really put on a great show.” Kessler will take on Oakland hero Andre Ward in their hotly-anticipated Super Six World Boxing Classic opening clash next Saturday. On Sunday afternoon he caught a first glimpse of the Oracle Arena when he and his team attended the NFL Game between the Oakland Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs at Oakland Coliseum.

“The atmosphere was great,” Kessler said. “It was the first time I watched an NFL game live and I really enjoyed it. The fans were very passionate and enthusiastic – I was really impressed. To us Europeans, American football is a complex sport because we are not so much into the rules, but as soon as you get the idea, it is really entertaining.

“Speaking of entertainment, you could once again see that the Americans are great when it comes down to organizing events. They know how to entertain the fans. I am sure my fight with Andre Ward will also be very entertaining.”

On Monday, Kessler and Andre Ward will hold an open training session in Oakland. “Things have been going great in practice,” Kessler added. “My physical shape could not be better. Now it is just about keeping up the form until I enter the ring on Saturday.”

PACQUIAO STOPS BRAVE COTTO IN TWELVE!!!

Sunday, November 15, 2009

Pacquiao stops Cotto in Twelve!!Manny Pacquiao (49-3-2, 37 KOs) has become the unsolvable puzzle over the past few years which last night left Miguel Cotto a bloody mess and out of answers, before being stopped in the twelfth round when referee Kenny Baylis stepped in to put an and to the beating at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto got off to the better start using his jab and negotiating Pacquiao speed well but was left on the canvas in the third round from a quick two punch combination, Cotto was visibly unhurt by the shot and got to his feet quickly arguing that he slipped but there was no arguing in the fourth round where Cotto was again sent to the canvas, this time hard from a big left uppercut.

Pacquiao was proving to all the doubters even myself that he could handle Cotto's power and the weight change without effecting his speed or power. Cotto fought on courageously but was again rocked in the sixth round.

He changed his style through the second half of the fight, boxing from the outside but Pacquiao was on a completely different level skill wise and stalked the champion at every given moment,

Cotto's wife decided that she and the kids had seen enough after the tenth round and exited the arena unable to watch the one sided beating while his father was seen in the corner asking to stop the fight, Cotto ever the warrior decided to continue but was clearly out of Ideas with Pacquiao firing shots from all angles. Cotto was in fact in survival mode throughout the last two rounds which left referee Kenny Bayless with the difficult decision to stop the fight in round twelve.

POST FIGHT COMMENTS

After the fight Pacquiao told reporters "I heard that he's stronger than me, I wanted to test his power."

"I wanted to show everybody that I could take a punch; that the talk before the fight that he would out-punch me was wrong,''

Throughout the earlier rounds where Cotto had some success Freddy Roach said "I yelled at him every time Why are you fighting his fight?" to which Pacquiao responded with "I can handle it,"

Pacquiao was then asked about Cotto's bodyshots "I tried to pretend that it's not going to hurt," said Pacquiao smiling. "But it really hurts."

Miguel Cotto said via a statement “I did my best and fought the best fighter I ever fought. I’m going to take some time off and figure out what I’m going to do next. I hope the fans enjoyed the fight.”

"He was stronger than we expected," Cotto's trainer, Joe Santiago said of Pacquiao. "He was faster than we expected."

We all know we are witnessing something very special in Manny Pacquiao and this comment was cemented by promoter Bob Arum when he was asked about the Filipino's performance "The best fighter I have ever seen, And that includes Muhammad Ali, and Sugar Ray Leonard and Marvin Hagler. The best fighter I have ever seen."

Cotto assured his fan's around the world that he would continue and it would not be the last you would see of the Puerto Rican warrior who showed such heart and determination but ultimately came up short to a truly remarkable fighter in the Pacman.

ROACH: MANNY IN BEST SHAPE EVER!!!

Friday, November 13, 2009

Future hall of fame trainer, Freddy Roach told reporters today that his fighter is primed and ready to score a knockout on Saturday night at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas.

His fighter is the current pound 4 pound king Manny Pacquiao who will take on Miguel Cotto in a fight for the WBO welterweight title.

"This week is the sharpest I've ever seen him in my life," said Roach. "We were doing the mitts on Tuesday and every time I was about to tell him something, he made the move before I could say anything."

Meanwhile, Roach believes his fighter's fearsome speed will be his greatest weapon against Cotto.

"Manny's speed is so effective whether he's coming or going," he added. "It's his footwork, he'll feint you out of his socks.

"We're definitely going to dictate the pace of the fight. I respect Miguel, but he'll get knocked out in this one."

Degale told reporters: "Haye boxed very, very well. But it was a boring fight. Valuev is probably one of the worst heavyweight champions. He's big, but I could have beaten him."

Willie Savannah, Manager of Juan Diaz

Ron Puccillo, Director of Athletics of the Illinois State Athletic Commission

"We are so proud to have both of these guys fighting in our town. It's going to be a great night and everyone knows that boxing is much better live in person, and this is a fight you will not want to miss."

I just sparred eight rounds today and it was one of the best eight rounds of my life. I’m looking forward to Ward and I’m looking forward to war.

MITCHELL LOOKING FOR FUTURE KHAN BOUT!!!

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

Kevin Mitchell insists he will demolish Amir Khan's nemesis Breidis Prescott next month.

Prescott remains the only man to beat Khan and Mitchell see's an opportunity to put on a good performance which could potentially set up a domestic super fight between himself and the WBA champ Amir Khan

"Everyone wants to see me fight Khan," said Mitchell, whose fight with Prescott will take place on the undercard of Khan's first title defence against Dmitriy Salita. "Amir's a brilliant fighter but I've always wanted to fight him," he said.

"Amir was made out to be a superstar so when Prescott came over and demolished him like he was nothing it made him look like a world beater.

"But I fancy demolishing Prescott within 10 rounds. Then I'll be the superstar.

"Me against Amir would be a massive fight. We could have it at West Ham in the summer, 35,000 would turn up.

"I've always thought I was the best in British boxing for my age, but I was outshone when Amir came back from the Olympics. Now I've had time to learn."

The 26-year-old insists Prescott as only tasted defeat once himself but Mitchell told reporters today that the Colombian should be the one thats worried ahead of their December 5 showdown at Newcastle's Metro Radio Arena.

"Amir had his hands down and chin out and most people would have been knocked out by that shot," he added.

"Breidis has to be more worried about what I hit like. I've had 21 knockouts in 29 fights and some of them were against good fighters.

"I won't lose any sleep over his punching power. He does hit hard but he makes a lot of mistakes and I want to capitalise on those."

B-HOP: MANNY IS THE BRUCE LEE OF BOXING!!!

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

Bernard Hopkins yesterday told reporters that he believe Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao is boxing's answer to 'Bruce Lee', and that he will chop up Miguel Cotto when they go head to head in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

"Pacquiao is going to chop Cotto up. Out of respect, Cotto will get some rounds, but Manny is the Bruce Lee of boxing," said B-Hop.

"His basketball and martial arts background give him that speed and agility. You can't tell where his shots are coming from. Unlike Rocky, Bruce Lee was a real dude and so is Manny."

Joe Calzaghe too is picking Pacquiao to win saying "I think Manny Pacquiao is going to be too quick for Cotto, I was ringside when Cotto fought Clottey. He seemed to struggle a bit in that fight and it is hard to say what he will do against a faster, quicker Pacquiao. I know people say Cotto is the bigger guy but I still think Pacquiao beats him in a decision."

Former heavyweight king Mike Tyson added his name to the queue of people picking Pacquiao saying "I pick Manny Pacquiao by knockout. I think he will knock him out in 7 or 8. Manny just has too much for Cotto."

HAYE'S WIN OPENS NEW POSSIBILITIES!!!

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

David Haye's win to take the WBA heavyweight title on Saturday night as opened up plenty of opportunities for the newly crowned champion with current and former world champions lining up to face him.

Haye's trainer Adam Booth was immediately approached by the management team of Wembley stadium which could see a potential fight between the Hayemaker and one of the division's super powers Wladimir or Vitali Klitschko.

“Wembley have already been on to me,” said Booth. “Haye against a Klitschko, Wladimir or Vitali, would be one of the biggest fights in heavyweight history.”

Before Haye can think about either of these mouth watering fights he will need to first defend his title against the mandatory challenger John Ruiz who is the current WBA's mandatory.

“Ruiz is the mandatory challenger for the WBA title so if I don’t fight him they’ll take the title from me, and I don’t fancy giving it up after winning it,” said Haye. “I feel I can knock out John Ruiz.”

Many pundits have been quick to compare Haye with the greatest of all time Muhammad Ali but Haye is uneasy with the comparison.

“I felt a bit uncomfortable seeing that,” he said. “Ali is the greatest and I’ve had one heavyweight title win. So I’ve got a long, long way to go.

“As long as I am talked about in the same breath in 50 years maybe as a great heavyweight, then I will have done my job.”

SHAW: CHAD WILL BE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP

Monday, November 9, 2009

After his impressive victory over Glen Johnson on the weekend, IBO Light Heavyweight champion Chad Dawson is looking to put the fight with Johnson and his previous fights with Tarver behind him as he looks for a new challenge.

"This chapter is now closed, the Glen Johnson, Antonio Tarver chapters are over," Dawson said. "Now it's time to move and fight some new faces."

Shaw believes that fresh challenge could come at 168lbs where the promoter already has Andre Dirrell competing in the Showtime TV-backed super-middleweight Super Six tournament alongside Britain's WBC champion Carl Froch, WBA beltholder Mikael Kessler, Germany's Arthur Abraham and fellow Americans Andre Ward and Jermain Taylor.

"Chad's one of the top five pound-for-pound fighters in the world, one of the most talented fighters and the single best at 175, probably the single best at 168, even though I represent a couple of 168lb-ers.

"Some day Chad will be the heavyweight champion of the world, I still believe that as well.

"We have a contract with HBO and I'm meeting with them next week and hopefully we'll have a deal on the table for Chad to continue at 175 on HBO.

"We're contracted to HBO and we'll honour that commitment but would we go down to 168 and fight someone? Yes, at this stage of the game, it's all about wherever we can get the most money for Chad."

When asked which fight excites him the most Dawson told reporters "Definitely Pascal, if he wins his fight, He's a good fighter, an exciting fighter and it would be a great fight."

Shaw added: "He is the IBO and WBC interim champion, he's soon to be the WBC champion as soon as I can make that fight and he will clean out the division single-handedly."

TOO BAD FOR JOHNSON AS CHAD WINS AGAIN!!!

Sunday, November 8, 2009

Dawson too quick for Johnson!!!

IBO light heavyweight champion "Bad" Chad Dawson (29-0, 17 KOs) scored a one sided unanimous decision over Glen Johnson (49-13-2, 33 KOs) on Saturday night at the XL Center in Hartford, CT.

Dawson used his quicker hands to outbox Johnson who tried his best to pressure and trap the champion without much success. Scores at the end of the twelve rounds were 115-113, 115-113, 117-111.

After the fight Dawson told reporters "I tried to use all the tools to my advantage, and that was the difference in the fight, I felt like I landed the big punches when I had to."

Johnson gave his tactics after the fight "He was able to escape some of my bigger punches, He didn't try to fight like he fought the first time. He basically just stayed away from me."

___________________________________________

Devastating was the word on everyones lips ringside as Alfredo Angulo (17-1, 14 KOs) took the WBO Interim Junior middleweight title via knockout in the fourth round over the formerly unbeaten Harry Joe Yorgey (22-1-1, 10 KOs).

In a fight that many claimed would be a close affair was in fact a one sided beatdown as Angulo dropped Yorgey in rounds two and twice in the third the second of which Yorgey stayed on the canvas for several minutes afterwards . Time of stoppage was 1:03.

Welterweight Orlando Lora (26-0-1, 18 KOs) won an eight round unanimous decision over Octavio Narvaez (7-8-1, 4 KOs) by scores of 77-75 twice and 78-75.

HAYE SLAYS THE GIANT IN NUREMBERG!!!

Saturday, November 7, 2009

David Haye is crowned the new WBA heavywejght champion!!!

Former cruiserweight king David Haye (23-1, 21 KOs) became the first British fighter to ever win titles in both the Cruiserweight and Heavyweight divisions when he put in a brilliant performance to take a majority decision victory over the seven foot Russian Nicolay Valuev (50-2, 34 KOs) at the Versischerung Arena in Nuremberg on Saturday night.

Haye was made to fight off the back foot for most of the bout as Valuev plodded around the ring in search for one big shot, that unfortunately for him did not come. Haye proved to be too quick for the giant Valuev and used his speed well, staying out of range and mostly throwing one shot at a time from the outside. Haye could have ended the bout in the twelfth when he staggered the now former champion but incredibly didn't feel the need to follow up the shot which left Valuev off the hook and on his feet at the final bell. Scores at the end of the twelve rounds were 114-114 with two scores by 116-112, in favour of the new WBA heavyweight champion of the world David "The Hayemaker" Haye.

"This is everything to me," Haye told Sky Box Office. "When I was a little baby I said I'd be heavyweight champion of the world. I just fought the biggest heavyweight champion in history - he was very strong."

"I hit him with some big shots and only in the last round did it seem to hurt him."

Haye, 29, also revealed an injury hampered much of his power.

"I damaged my right hand in the round two or three so I couldn't throw too many right hands," he said. "I had to win the fight essentially with my left hand.

"I knew that I'm the best heavyweight in the world. I trained to be more aggressive but hurt my hand."

___________________________________________

John Ruiz made sure he was first in the queue to challenge either Valuev or Haye for the WBA heavyweight title when he proved too good for Turk Adnan Serin stopping him in the seventh round of a scheduled twelve rounds.

A barrage of punches in the seventh gave the referee little option but to start a standing eight count with Serin trapped in the corner. As the action got back underway Ruiz scored with a big over hand right and Serin's corner decided they had seen enough and in came the towel to end the contest.

Ruiz told Sky Sports after the bout of his preference between either Valuev or Haye saying "I'd like to see a new face... maybe Haye in England, but at the same time I am willing to win the fight, I'm glad I'm back. I've got new guys working for me and I managed to correct some of my old stuff, but thank God I managed to work on this new stuff too."

Weekend Results!!!

NABA welterweight champion Mike Jones (19-0, 16 KOs) scored a fifth round KO over Raul Pinzon (16-4-1, 15 KOs) on Saturday night at Bally’s Atlantic City.

Junior middleweight Gabriel Rosado (13-4, 8 KOs) stopped Latif Mundy (8-2-1, 3 KOs) at 1:53 of round seven.

Knockout artist David Lemieux scored his 19th knockout in as many fights. getting the job done in the second round against Alfredo Contreras (10-7-1 4KO)

DAWSON - JOHNSON PRESSER!!!

Friday, November 6, 2009

Chad Dawson: “The first fight I did what I had to do. I stacked up the rounds. It’s like any fighter. You get hit, you want to hit back. My whole goal for this fight is to hit and not to be hit. Stick and move. I’m not a knockout puncher. I’m not going in there looking for the knockout. I will keep out-boxing you. I will out-point you. That’s what got me to 28-0. Why would I want to change that?”

Glen Johnson: “I definitely feel like I’m in the best shape of my life. I know I will win the fight. I feel like I’m stronger and better prepared than the last time we did this.”

Henry Foster, Johnson’s manager: “We just finished the best camp ever. We are ready for this fight. My fighter is the best light heavyweight in the world and we will show that on Saturday night.”

Harry Joe Yorgey: “I guarantee a good show on Saturday night. I’m not 22-0 for nothing and he’s not 16-1 for nothing so I know it will be a great show.

People recognize me more now. I used to fight in front of 600 people in the amateurs. I have a big fan club. It’s just now more extended. I’ve gotten letters from people overseas and other states like Nebraska. I came back from the Hearns fight that was televised and somebody stopped me at a stop sign and asked for my autograph. It was crazy.

I used to beat up one of my brothers then have my other brother act like Larry Merchant and have him fake an interview with me and practice signing autographs. I’ve always wanted this. It’s like a dream come true. I love being in the spotlight and I love people. Some people shy away from it but I love it.”

Alfredo Angulo: “All the work is done now. We’ve trained and now we’re ready to fight. Yorgey is a moving fighter. He moves around a lot. I’m the exact opposite. We have different styles so that will make for an exciting fight. I’ve been enjoying myself all week. I’m relaxed and ready to go.”

The spectacular night of boxing takes place on HBO beginning at 9:30 p.m. ET / 6:30 p.m. PT, from the XL Center. You can’t just go to the gym and work out every day and hit bags. That’s not enough. You need to study tapes of your opponent. You need to design and develop different game plans for you oppoenent. You just need to be prepared.”

ON POLITICS…

“One of the reasons I am running for office is not just to win, it is to bring attention to issues in the area where I live. And my celebrity as a candidate helps bring attention to those issues that need attention. I speak for those who can’t. Maybe my holding office will help bring more bisiness to the region where I live, which has been neglected.”

ON TRAINER FREDDIE ROACH…

“Freddie has been a father to me, a brother to me and an all-time my best friend. I know he always has my best interest at heart. And he has always been there for me.”

WHAT THIS FIGHT MEANS HISTORICALLY…

“This fight is about history. It’s exciting to think I can the first person to win 7 world titles in 7 different weight divisions. What makes it even more special is that it would be a Filipino to do it.”

ON COTTO…

"I look at Cotto as my toughest fight. I’m not worried about moving up in weight. I wasn’t worried when I accepted the fight with Oscar De La Hoya and I wasn’t worried when I accepted this fight with Cotto. Will I knock him out? My lips are sealed” (zippering his lips closed with his fingers)."

Wednesday, November 4, 2009

Francisco “El Gato” Figueroa will look to reignite his title run tonight when he takes on the red hot prospect of Rashad Holloway at Camp Lejuene in North Carolina.

Both fighters have trained well for the bout with both claiming victory. While conducting an interview with Rashad Holloway last week we asked what he made of Figueroa’s style “He is a tough experienced fighter " Rashad said "He's crafty and he has the heart of a lion” but when I asked what are his plans going into the fight he told us he would "dominate the contest".

This one promises to be a great fight with the only obvious winner being the fight fans in attendance. I would like to wish both fighters the best of luck.

cOTTO CONFIDENT OF SUCCESS!!!

Wednesday, November 4, 2009

Miguel Cotto is totally focused on one thing only, A win on November 14th over Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao.

On the run up to the fight many people around the boxing world have already started to overlook Miguel talking about a future bout which could potentially see Pacquiao face "Money" Floyd Mayweather Jr.

When asked about this Miguel said "He can fight Mayweather as many times as he wants after I beat him" but then went on to praise his opponent saying "He has earned everything he has, Manny looked good against Oscar De La Hoya and (Ricky) Hatton. But I'm not Oscar or Hatton. Manny chose the right time to fight Oscar."

In weeks leading up to the fight people have began commenting on his lone loss over Antonio Margarito and his struggles over Joshua Clottey to which Cotto replied

"Why don't you ask Manny that question because he has had three losses I have just one," Cotto said.

"My commitment is with myself. In my last fight (Joshua Clottey) I could have stopped the fight (cuts) but I decided to stay in the ring because of my commitment to myself and my family."

"Sometimes when you lose you win. Since Margarito great things have come to my career.

"Where is Margarito right now and where is Miguel Cotto?"

Later on in the Interview Miguel went on to take a shot at Freddy Roach's predictions "This is the problem," Cotto said. "Freddie Roach is not the guy who is going to climb into the ring. If he prepares Manny for just nine rounds then he has three more rounds.

"He (Roach) can say whatever he wants. One day he says the first round and the next day he says round seven. I'm preparing for 12 rounds and nobody is going to know what will happen until the night of the 14th."

On wrapping up the interview with several of today's top reporters Cotto closed with "It is the most important fight of my career, but we'll have to see on the 14th if he is the toughest guy I have fought in my career," Cotto said.

“The fight went almost exactly how I planned,’’ said Perez afterward. “I knew I was winning the rounds and I deserved to get the victory. I trained to throw a lot of punches. I know Agbeko likes to throw a lot of punches, so I knew I had to be better conditioned.

“All the hard work and preparation paid off. This is a dream come true. (On the knockdown) I don’t think he was in good shape. I think he went down to catch his breath. I felt I was more consistent, more active and I pressed the fight throughout.”

The disappointed former champion Agbeko told reporters “He head butted me in round 10. I don’t think that was fair. The (television) replay clearly shows what happened. I was fighting well to that point. I thought I was winning the fight.

“Perez seemed energized after being awarded the knockdown and I was never the same after his head hit mine. We will never know what would have happened had there not been a head butt.’’

“This is the second happiest day of my life. Only the birth of my daughter comes first. I was a little surprised the referee let the fight go. At one point he (Alfaro) turned around and I knew (at that point) it was only a matter of time.

“For everyone who supported me and helped me when I had nothing, I thank them from the bottom of my heart.”

Alfaro told reporters, “He used his jab and distance better than I did tonight. That was the difference that I could not overcome. I couldn’t land my punches. I wanted to press him with my right hand. I got a couple of them in, but obviously not enough.”
