Manny Pacquiao told reporters yesterday that he doesn't believe a super fight between himself and Floyd Mayweather Jr will ever come to fruition.

"I don't think it's going to happen," Pacquiao said. "I'm sure he doesn't want to fight.

Pacquiao went on to give his view on why the fight wont happen saying "Boxing for him is like a business, He doesn't care about the people around him watching. He doesn't care if the fight is boring, as long as the fight is finished and he gets (plenty of) money. ... I want people to be happy. You have a big responsibility as a boxer."

BOB ARUM: As we come down the home stretch here I know everybody is excited. This fight has received more attention and more interest I think than any fight in the last five or ten years. I think people are really interested in this fight because there is so much to talk about – their styles and their training in the different parts of the world. Interest in boxing is due to Manny Pacquiao’s rise in the sport. Manny Pacquiao has passion and is a unique fighter. He just won the very prestigious Gusi Peace Prize given out in Asia and of the 17 people that have received this award he is the only athlete. That is great for the sport and congratulations. Freddie Roach is now the model for all trainers and people now realize he is the best trainer in the world and it is a great privilege for me to introduce to both of you Manny Pacquiao and his trainer Freddie Roach.

FREDDIE ROACH: Training camp is going very well. We had four really good weeks in Baguio. There were a couple of typhoons that came our way but we didn’t miss a beat. We had really good sparring then we went back to Manila and it was intense because we had quite a few distractions so we had to break camp early. Miguel Cotto is feeling extremely confident of success come November 14th when he is faced with the task of beating the Pound 4 Pound king Manny Pacquiao.

Cotto was asked about his match up by reporters and confidently stated: “He’s just another boxer who comes to my division and challenge me for my title. The night of November 14 I’m going to be prepared for him, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to beat Manny Pacquiao.”

“I know at the moment I have another opportunity to prove myself. I’m going to be the winner.”

Future hall of fame trainer Freddie Roach told reporters yesterday that in his opinion his fighter Manny Pacquiao ranks amongst the top five fighters of all time.

“Beating Miguel Cotto for a seventh world title is going to be unbelievable. Manny is a throwback. He’s carrying his power and punch up with him and his speed,” said Roach.

“This is one of the greatest achievements ever because he is surpassing guys like Sugar Ray Leonard. He is in the elite category of the best five fighters of all time in any era.”

Pacquiao is on the verge of making it into the history books with a seventh title in as many divisions.

“It’s a great honour to me and to my country,” said Pacquiao “That is why I’m very hungry to win this fight because it is the first time in history.”

Standing between that feat is the Puerto Rican warrior Miguel Cotto, but Roach is confident his man can send the Puerto Rican to the canvas.

“[Cotto] is a very good fighter. We are moving into a bigger weight class, but we fought Oscar [de la Hoya] at this weight too. I feel that Manny, the way he’s punching right now, he’s going to knock Cotto out.”

Bradley, Peterson Quotes!!!Unbeaten boxers and former junior national roommates Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley and Lamont Peterson met the media on Tuesday to discuss their World Boxing Organization (WBO) Jr. Welterweight world title mega-matchup Saturday, Dec. 12 live on SHOWTIME® (9p ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast).

“We’ve traveled together and are friends and know each other pretty well but it’s part of the business,” said Bradley from the ballroom at The Show at Agua Caliente Casino • Resort • Spa in Rancho Mirage, Calif., less than 10 miles from where he grew up in North Palm Springs. “I had to take this fight. I didn’t really want to take this fight but I had to.Once we get in the ring our friendship is out the door”

“We do have a lot history together,” said Peterson. “We met when we were like 14, 15 years old. We always had a good time hanging out together. I want to see him do well in his career and I’m sure he wants the same for me but at the end of the day we have to get in the ring and someone has to lose. Someone’s career is going to go backwards.”

Added Bradley: “Lamont is laid back and quiet. Those are the guys that I fear the most. He’s always thinking. I know they’ve been breaking down my videos and studying me and that they’ll come in with a game plan.”

The 26-year-old Bradley (24-0, 11 KOs), who is coming off a no contest against former unified lightweight world champion Nate Campbell on Aug. 1 on SHOWTIME, is on a hot streak in the stacked 140-pound division. Bradley originally won the fight via highly controversial third-round TKO, but the decision was later changed to a NC by the California State Athletic Commission due to an accidental head butt that opened a cut over Campbell’s left eye.

“The real reason I didn’t want to take this fight is to be honest there is no big money involved. I’m looking to make some big money and I want the bigger money fights. At this point in my career each fight is critical. A loss to Lamont Peterson and my career is down the toilet. Every fight is critical. I’ll take on any and all challengers as long as the money is there. That’s all I’m worried about.

“But I want also want to keep my WBO title. I love my WBO title and that’s why I have to go through guys like Lamont Peterson to keep my title and to get the bigger fights maybe next year.

“The promoters know I’ll fight anyone. When I fought Edner Cherry I fought another world champion. Most fighters won’t do that. Once they get in the Top 10 they don’t want to fight anyone.

“I know Lamont and I know his story and I know he’s from the streets and tough and that this is his defining moment. It’s kind of like when I went over to England and fought for the world title and I wasn’t going to take no for an answer. I’ve got a lot to lose by taking this fight and he’s got everything to gain. I know that. It’s a major, major fight for both of us.

“You’ve got two young undefeated fighters going at each other so I know it’s going to be a great fight.

“I was actually here for Timothy’s last fight and I couldn’t believe Nate Campbell quit like that. As a fighter I don’t care if your toe comes off you or one of your hands comes off it’s your responsibility to fight while you’re in there. It’s up to the referee or the guy in your corner to stop the fight and not you. You’re supposed to fight no matter what the circumstance.

“I don’t care that he’s fighting at home. Whatever happens in the ring will happen in the ring. I can’t change a decision but I can control the things that happen in the ring and that’s all I can do. That’s all I can worry about and that’s all I can control.

David Haye reckons he's well ahead in the mind game stakes as he prepares for his big title fight next month with WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev in Nurnberg.

The 'Hayemaker' (22-1, 22KO), believes the anger the Russian is feeling at the moment due to his media stunts will give him a edge come fight night as he told the Daily Mirror "I definitely feel I've got under his skin, The word coming out of his training camp in Germany is that he's really motivated. He's knocking all his sparring partners around and really wants to do a number on me"

"That's great because I really want him to come out at me, swinging. The more aggressive he is, the better and I will be able to go to work with my counter-punches. So, so far, so good.

WBC bantamweight champion Hozumi Hasegawa’s opponent in defense of his 10th title has been changed from Eric Morel of Puerto Rico to Alvaro Perez of Nicaragua, his Shinsei Boxing Gym said Monday.

Eric Morel apparently is having trouble entering Japan because he has a criminal record. ‘‘I hate fighting southpaws. But whoever my opponent is my job is to knock him out,’’ said Hasegawa.

The Legendary former Undisputed world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson said yesterday that he has no regrets over his “savage” lifestyle, which saw him jailed for rape in the early Nineties and declared bankrupt six years ago.

Tyson who will start his speaking tour next week told reporters: “I don’t have regrets. All I have done, the good and the bad, catapulted me to become one of the greatest fighters. I was happy to be savage because I used to hear about fighters who were savages, monsters and animals. It made them almost inhuman and I loved their stigma.”

Due to some of the comments made by fellow professionals, Britain may be losing one of it's big named fighter with WBA lightweight champion Amir Khan confessing to the People newspaper yesterday that he may be looking to move to the States permenantly, due to the jealousy shown to him from WBC Super Middleweight champion Carl Froch and fellow Lightweight John Murray.

Froch is reported to have said he has "never been a fan of Khan's" and that Khan's win over Andreas Kotelnik was "one of the most boring fights" he's ever seen. While Murray referred to Amir as "a complete joker."

Khan responded to these claims in an interview he had with the people newspaper on Sunday, he said "I've never spoken badly [about Carl Froch] or about John [Murray], I'm a fighter and there's a lot of jealousy in British boxing. Carl's a very bitter person."

It looks like Amir may be feeling the pressure of the british public and may now look to put all that behind him with a move to LA where Khan described the people there "appreciate" what a fighter achieves.

"I'd like to live in L.A eventually because it's getting tough to live in Britain," Khan explained. "I love the British public and it would be very hard to leave them, but my career comes first and whatever move I need to make, I will do. The difference in L.A is that people appreciate what you achieve, whereas you don't see that in Britain. In Britain, I see a lot of bitterness and jealousy."

Adamek Stops Golota in Round Five!!!The fight was named the "Polish fight of the Century" which tonight witnessed two weight world champion (Light heavyweight & Cruiserweight) Thomasz Adamek (39-1, 27 KOs) stop his fellow countryman Andrzej Golota (41-8-1, 33 KOs) in round five of a scheduled twelve round bout at the Atlas Arena in Lodz, Poland.

This was the first time Adamek had fought at the Heavyweight limit and looked extremely sharp against the bigger and slower Golota. The bout couldn't have started any better for Adamek as he used his jab and his combinations to keep Golota from setting up his power shots. Adamek scored the first knockdown of the bout towards the end of the first which looked more of a push than a legitimate punch which got the Polish fight fans to their feet. Round two was also commanded by Adamek who's combinations and punch selection seemed to have a puzzling effect on Golota. Round three was Golota's best round, with the Big Pole connecting with his left hook that seemed to have even the iron jawed Adamek shook at times. At that point I was thinking this fight could potentially turn in to a battle of will's but Adamek regained his composure in round four, shacking Golota on numerous occasions with his own left hook. In the fifth and final round of the bout it was only a matter of time before Golota was again in survival mode with Adamek mixing up his shots well until unleashing a vicious right cross – left hook combination that sent Golota down to the canvas for a second time. He courageously made it to his feet but Adamek knew the end was near and continued the onslaught to give the referee no option but to stop the fight.

Adamek proved tonight that he has the skills to be a major force in the heavyweight division but will he stay in the division and challenge the likes of the Klitschko's or will he go back down in weight class to perhaps avenge his earlier loss to Chad Dawson?

As for Golota I think we may have seen the last of the great heavyweight Pole who fought some of the best fighters around including the great Mike Tyson and former heavyweight champion Oliver McCall. We can now add Thomasz Adamek to that list.

WBC interim super flyweight champion Tomás “Gusano” Rojas (32-11-1, 22 KOs) retained his title via unanimous twelve round decision against Evans Mbamba (16-1, 8 KOs) at the World Trade Center in Veracruz, Mexico. Scores were 117-109, 117-109 and 119-108.

Heavyweight Konstantin Airich (13-2-1, 10 KOs) scored an eight round unanimous decision over Cisse Salif (23-17-2, 21 KOs) on Saturday at the Kugelbake Halle in Cuxhaven, Germany.

Heavyweight Ondrej Pala (26-2, 18 KOs) won an eight round unanimous decision over Alex Mazikin (13-3-1, 3 KOs). Scores were 77-75, 80-69, 80-72.

Former Euro heavyweight champion Vladimir Virchis (24-2, 20 KOs) scored a sixth round unanimous decision over Edgars Kalnars (20-19, 11 KOs) scores were 59-55, 59-55, 59-56 win.

Unbeaten jr welterweight contender Denis Shafikov (22-0, 12 KOs) scored a ten round unanimous decision over veteran Fernando Trejo (30-16-4, 18 KOs) on Saturday night at the Urheilutalo in Helsinki, Finland. Scores were 117-111, 116-112 and 116-112.

Welterweight Roman Seliverstov (11-8, 2 KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over former world title challenger Cosme Rivera (31-13-2, 22 KOs). Scores were 116-112, 119-111 and 117-111.

Middleweight Niko Jokinen (7-0, 4 KOs) took a decision win from the judges over Cliff Soukka (5-1, 1 KO). scores were 58-54, 58-54 and 58-54.

Ryan Rhodes last night took the European Light Middleweight tile with a seventh round stoppage of former champion Jamie Moore at the Bolton Arena.

The champion Moore started the better with Rhodes looking slow but as the rounds wore on Rhodes started to impose himself on the bout. In the seventh round Moore let his guard down with Rhodes catching the Salford fighter and sending him crashing to the canvas. Moore made it to his feet but the fight was stopped shortly after from a follow up barrage of punches that left the referee with no option but to stop the contest, with the win Rhodes now as a shot at the the WBC world title.

Welterweight Freddy “El Riel” Hernandez (26-1, 18 KOs) outworked Damian “Devo” Frias (16-2, 7 KOs) over ten rounds on Friday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center in Laredo, Texas. Scores were 98-92 on all cards.

Undefeated super bantamweight Victor “Vitino” Fonseca (17-0, 9 KOs) scored a ninth round stoppage over Al “The Quiet Storm” Seeger (28-5, 22 KOs). Time of stppage was 1:41.

Olympian featherweight Gary Russell Jr. scored a four round unanimous decision over Noe Lopez (4-4).

Oliver McCall (54-9, 37 KOs) again showed last night that age is just a number as the 44 year old former WBC champion dropped Lance Whitaker (34-6-1, 28 KOs) in round one and went on to win a ten round unanimous decision on Friday night at The Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Scores were 95-94 on all cards for McCall.

Cruiserweight Victor Barragan (11-4, 3 KOs) stopped Arthur Williams (46-16-1, 30 KOs) in the seventh round to claim Williams’ interim WBC USNBC title.

Dmitriy Salita told reporters yesterday that he was more than ready for his upcoming WBA Light Welterweight clash against the champion Amir Khan, and what's more he believes the British public will be right behind him come fight night.

“My early fights were shown here on television". Salita said "The British publications have written articles about me from the beginning. The documentary about my career, ‘Orthodox Stance’, was shown on the BBC about a year-and-a-half ago. I guess I’ve been in the ear of British fans a long time. I hope they like what I do and support me for the rest of my career.

“It’s my first time in Newcastle, it’s a beautiful city. I’m sad we only stayed for a night. It will be our home for a few days before the fight. I’m looking forward to coming back.”

Salita then changed his focus to the fight saying “This is why you fight as a kid and an amateur, it’s why you wake up in the morning for your long runs. This is what it’s all about.

“I’ve been in camps with some of the biggest names in boxing, so I won’t be intimidated by something I haven’t seen before.”

When asked about what he thought of Salita the British Goldenboy Amir Khan said “He has a very similar style to (Andreas) Kotelnik, but his defence is not as good. He’s going to get hit with shots he’s not seen and get hurt.

“I’ve seen videos and thought, ‘This is going to be the perfect fight for me’.”

Manny Pacquiao has completed his first five weeks of training in the Philippines without mishap as he continues the build-up to his fight with Miguel Cotto on November 14.

The Filipino legend was forced to move camps from the cool mountain resort of Baguio following violent storms that killed more than 1,000 people.

However, trainer Freddie Roach says the 30-year-old's training was not disrupted and is in great shape for the final two weeks of sparring in Los Angeles.

"He is right where I want him to be, perfect," said Roach. "We didn't let it affect our training. We worked right through it and never missed a day," Roach said of the storms.

"So it was a great training camp in Baguio."

Former two-time world champion Byron Mitchell (28-5-1, 21 KOs) scored an impressive two round annihilation of David Telesco (30-7-1, 25 KOs) last night at the Rye Town Hilton Hotel in Rye Brook, NY.

Telasco was dropped twice on route to the finish, the first coming in the opening round from a big right hand. Telasco made it through but was left down and out in the second from a brilliant combination for which he had no answer.

I scored the fight in Dirrell's favour but in truth I could see how both men could have taken the contest. Each of the rounds were very evenly matched and what swayed my score was that Dirrell hardly got hit throughout and used his hand speed to good effect.

Taylor got off to a great start in this one, using his jab very effectively throughout the first four rounds but was left out of answers after, with the German taking command of the bout from that point on. Taylor made the mistake of letting through a massive right hand with seconds remaining of round twelve which left him on the canvas and out of the contest.

12Miguel Cotto will be considered the underdog come November 14th, which will witness him go head to head with Pound 4 Pound king Manny Pacquiao.

However the Puerto Rican's trainer Joe Santiago believes his fighter can upset the odds, just like he did when claiming a fifth-round TKO win over Carlos Quintana for the vacant WBA welterweight crown back in 2006.

"Before Miguel fought Carlos Quintana a few years ago many people were picking Quintana to win and that really motivated Miguel," said Santiago in a conference call. "The night of the fight he was so focused to prove people wrong that it really gave him a boost in the fight.

"We're seeing that again with the way so many people are picking Pacquiao to win on Nov. 14. Miguel is very driven by the people saying Pacquiao will beat him. It's extra motivation and he is coming with more fire because people are saying he can't win.

"Cotto is at his best, and he is out to show that against Manny. It will be a very tough night for Pacquiao because winning means so much to Miguel. There is so much desire. Miguel Cotto showed a lot about his will to win in the Clottey fight. He will show this against Manny as well but you will also see his speed and power in this fight," he said.

"I think Miguel has shown people he can deal with speed in fighting Mosley and Judah. People don't think Miguel can stay with Manny and his speed and rhythm but I think he will and it will surprise people."

OPENING COMMENTS:

ALAN HOPPER: We’ve got Joseph King Kong Agbeko coming off a career-defining win over Raging Bull Vic Darchinyan and Yonnhy Perez served notice on the bantamweight division with a tremendous win over Silence Mabuza.

To add spice to this fight, King Kong announced last week he will win by knockout; which caused a cautionary response from Perez.

And just this week, King Kong found out Yonnhy was planning a workout at his hometown L.A. gym in Santa Fe Springs on Thursday, and now Agbeko has announced he will “crash the party” by participating in the workout as well.

Those of you in L.A. are encouraged to attend this special media workout on Thursday where both fighters will be present. We’ll be servicing a media alert on this after the call, but so you Los Angelenos know, Perez will begin his work out at noon at the Santa Fe Springs Activity Center—followed by a photo op with both fighters—and then Agbeko will begin his workout. JOSEPH AGBEKO:
“I’d like to congratulate Yonnhy for his victory over Silence Mabuza. He really did well. I’m expecting a good fighter, he’s undefeated. I was once undefeated, and I know how difficult it is. He feels confident because he has never been beaten before. But, I want everyone to know that he’s going to get his first defeat on Oct. 31. It’s going to be a knockout.”

YONNHY PEREZ: “I want to thank everyone for making this what will be a night to remember in Las Vegas.”

Joseph, Why are you so confident you're going to win this fight by KO?

AGBEKO: “I’m so confident because Yonnhy Perez is a good fighter. He can come forward, he can go backward. Fighting a very good fighter is always difficult. It makes you work harder. Yonnhy Perez can definitely not stay in there with me. He’s definitely going to get stopped.”

What did the win over Silence Mabuza do for your confidence?

PEREZ: “Of course it was a boost of confidence, but one thing that everyone needs to be aware of is that my confidence didn’t come just from that fight. I have my confidence in my preparation and I’m confident every time I step in the ring, no matter who I’m facing. Beating Mabuza was a great deal for me, but I had confidence in my power and my ability even before I stepped in the ring, and the same thing is going to happen on Oct. 31.”

Yonnhy, what do you think about Agbeko’s prediction of a knockout?

PEREZ: “I’m ready for any type of battle to happen in the ring. I don’t want to make a prediction of my own, but as far as what Agbeko said coming into this fight and predicting a knockout, it’s OK. That’s why I live in this country, there’s freedom of speech. He can say whatever he wants about any issue. I’ve traveled to Africa, and I know how the fighters of that continent are. I know they can talk more than what they can actually do in the ring. He shouldn’t spit up in the air because all that’s going to fall right on his face.”

How exciting was it to come out with a victory the way you did?

PEREZ: “I was extremely happy. I was thrilled that I was able to win. But, what I remember the most was going into the 12th round and knowing that it was a very difficult fight for me going throughout the first 11 rounds. It was a very close fight and I knew that I only had one opportunity, which was the last round. I asked God for strength to help me. He was the only one who knew how hard I had worked to get to that point. He knew how tough it was to get to that opportunity. I remembered my kids back in Colombia and all the needs that my family have. I went out there with all my faith and trust in my preparation, and the result, as you all know, obviously I was very happy that I had the opportunity and the chance to beat Mabuza in South Africa.”

Joseph, do you think South African boxers just talk a lot of trash?

AGBEKO: “I don’t think African boxers talk more than what they do. Perez has to know that King Kong is different from the other African boxers because I deliver. I’m going to deliver what I say. “

PEREZ: “I understand that. He’s probably not like Silence Mabuza, but he’s probably returning to his African roots. I’ve seen how all the fighters are from Africa, I’ve also fought a lot of them in the amateurs. I know how they fight. If he says that he’s going to deliver, that’s great. I just hope that he comes ready for Oct. 31. He’s not facing a nobody, he’s fighting a real, future champion. He’s not fighting his wife, he’s fighting a real man.”

Joseph, was the win over Vic Darchinyan a big boost to your career?

AGBEKO: “My dream is to become a unified world champion. I want to become the No. 1 pound-for-pound boxer in the world. My dream is to defeat every boxer that comes my way, not just Vic Darchinyan, not just Luis Perez, not just Yonnhy Perez. But my dream is to win every fight that comes my way. I’m ready for the world and I’m ready to become No. 1 pound-for-pound in this game someday. That’s what I always prepare for.”

Was it a career defining fight for you?

AGBEKO: “Yeah, I believe that because Darchinyan was a very, very big win. It’s very big, it’s very respected. “

Yonnhy, what kind of weaknesses do you see in Agbeko?

PEREZ: “I was in Florida when he fought Vic Darchinyan. He fought with a lot of heart. He did have a great performance, and he obviously beat Darchinyan with ease. It would have been an embarrassment if he didn’t beat Darchinyan with ease, because Vic was a guy moving up in weight from 115 to 118. He showed he has the heart of a champion and I know he is a great champion. As far as any weakness I’ve seen, I’ve actually seen what he does well, which he is a very good boxer. But, I’m going to keep all those weaknesses I’ve seen on him on my own. I will keep those and reserve those for myself. We’ll try to expose those, but those are things I’ll keep to myself and I’ll try to use on Oct. 31.”

Joseph, how has your life changed since beating Darchinyan?

AGBEKO: “I’m working very hard. I’ve found that when you work very hard, you get very good results. Because of that, I’ve been working hard for any fighter to come my way.

“My focus is to become No. 1 pound-for-pound one day. That’s my dream. That’s my focus, and I’m working toward it.”

Has your motivation been just as high for this fight?

AGBEKO: “Yonnhy Perez wants to beat me. He’s a very good, undefeated fighter. I love when I’m fighting people like that because people want to think that nobody can defeat them because they’ve won all their fights. I love it when it comes to that because I always want to do something that people think nobody can do.”

How much do Azumah Nelson or Ike Quartey inspire or motivate you as a fighter from Accra, Ghana?

AGBEKO: “Azumah and Ike inspire me and are very good champions of Ghana. I always look up to them and they always advise me. They’ve been there before and they were able to make it, too. They teach me what to do and they always point me in the right direction. I also want to become like them. “

Perez, how is fighting for your family motivation?

PEREZ: “My motivation is to let me kids know that being in a professional sport is the cleanest way to have a decent life. I have sacrificed a lot for them. I know why I do it, and it’s so they can have a better life in Colombia.”

Don, what’s it like to return to the city where you’ve promoted so many great fights? And how would you compare Agbeko to some of the great African champions?

KING: “First of all, I really never left Las Vegas. I’m always there. But, when I found a guy name Phil Ruffin…who is able to give the people what they want, that’s not so corporate and can be more human, then I came back and worked with him to be able to bring back the glory of yesteryear back into Las Vegas again.


“I think that Agbeko is on the way to greatness. He’s already a great champion. When he defeated Darchinyan, that was a great event because everyone had Vic as the man. He was the best and this, that and the other….You’ve got a great champion in King Kong Agbeko and he’s growing leaps and bounds. The boxing world will be proud of him. He’s a great fighter no matter where he came from. This guy is a tremendous gladiator. He stays right in there, he’s a great boxer. He moves, he thinks when he’s fighting. I think he’s just fabulous, like Azumah and Quartey. It’s a triple thing now. They’re all coming out to work together, but he’s going to exemplify himself and establish himself as the great champion that he is. It’s going to be a great fight on the 31st, I’m looking forward to it with great anticipation. I think everybody in the boxing world will recognize him after he beats Yonnhy Perez. It’s going to be tremendous.”

What’s it like to get back into the ring after just four months since your last appearance?

AGBEKO: “I’m happy that I’m coming back very quickly. Boxing is my life, boxing is my food. Boxing is my everything. I’m going to always be a fighter and win all my titles. I wish I could fight everyday. I’m very, very happy that I’m so soon and I thank my promoter for getting this very quickly.”

Yonnhy, when did you start thinking about a title shot?

PEREZ: “That’s why I have my promoters. I knew that I was highly rated in a lot of the organizations. I was just waiting for an opportunity and a shot. Thanks to God that I was able to do that. That obviously opened the door to this opportunity to fight for a world title against Joseph Agbeko.”

Joseph, do you strive to be like Azumah Nelson or Ike Quartey?

AGBEKO: “They are good champions from Ghana. They are the fighters that opened up the way for us. I would like to tell the world that they are always motivating me and pushing me to go higher. I’m trying and working hard to carve up my own destiny, to be No. 1 pound-for-pound.”

Don, can you tell us a little bit about what it took to get boxing into Treasure Island?

KING: “Let me say this, Phil Ruffin is the man. He’s the man that came up with the hand shake and convinced me to come out and brand the place. They’ve never had a boxing match before. They have a great roof-quarter, we may do a great show there, a stellar satellite show right off the roof of Treasure Island. With the pirate ships and the sirens, I figure it has all the elements that will make just a great, great, fantastic show that will take place. I’m just happy to bring Vegas back, to the extent of giving them the excitement. It’s the 35 Anniversary of the Rumble in the Jungle, almost to the hour….I think the Treasure Island is going to become my destination where many people can come and have the excitement of being No. 1…That was the spirit and the feeling of Vegas, which we have to restore again because we’ve sort of lost our way.

“Las Vegas always exemplified and personified getting rich and having the opportunity to win whatever you want to win. Let’s take your luck to the Treasure Island and bring home a barrel of money. “

Yonnhy, can you talk about turning pro relatively later?

PEREZ: “All the traditions that I had over there, it’s a huge difference. People handle their lives in a completely different way than I’m used to in Colombia. It was really rough in the beginning. I did, in fact, start my professional career late. But that was due to the fact that I was in the Colombian National Army. I have support in the amateurs as a boxer and being part of the military. I did retire from the military with honors, I actually didn’t want to retire early, and that allowed me to actually have a small pension and a house which we rent in Colombia. That’s the reason why I started my career late. Also, I made a decision to come over to the United States because I had an opportunity to do so through my managers. Now, I have an opportunity to fight for a world title. I couldn’t do anything professionally in Colombia because I had no support over there. I knew I had to come over to America to move on with my professional boxing career so I could be of use to my family and make money for them.”

Joseph, do you think you’ll go a little out of your way to beat Yonnhy Perez?

AGBEKO: “I respect Yonnhy Perez a lot. I predict a knockout because I know I’m going to knock him out.”

Yonnhy, do you think he is disrespecting you?

PEREZ: “He might be underestimating me a little bit, or he might be using strategy. He’s probably trying to make me lose my concentration. But, I’m an old guy. I’ve been in this business for a while. I am prepared to fight him and I’m ready for whatever he wants to bring to the table and whatever he brings into the ring on Oct. 31. I’m not an innocent, young amateur kid. I’ve been around the block, and I’m not concerned with his predictions.”

Where you impressed with his performance against Darchinyan?

PEREZ: “I wasn’t really impressed. I was actually a little bit disappointed. I thought that being the bigger man he should have been able to handle him a little bit better. It’s like me moving up to 122 or 126 and trying to beat a bigger man, which, in reality, it doesn’t work that way. So, I was not that impressed. “

Are you planning on impressing Yonnhy?

AGBEKO: “This fight is going to be an enjoyable fight for me. I’m a confident fighter and I really enjoy it when I fight another confident fighter. It’s going to be a very enjoyable fight for me.”

Jermain Taylor was yesterday released from hospital after suffering a brutal 12th rounf knockout at the hands of former IBF Middleweight champion Arthur Abraham.

Following his release, the former middleweight king said: "I want to thank all my fans and those concerned and let everyone know I'm doing just fine and feeling good.

"I want to congratulate Abraham on his victory and wish him well in the Super Six tournament.

"Right now my plans are to relax and enjoy a vacation in Europe with my wife Erica."

Taylor's promoter Lou DiBella added: "All of us at DiBella Entertainment are grateful that Jermain is feeling better after fighting his heart out on Saturday night.

Q: Is anything different in training?

Q: How long have you been waiting for your chance for a title fight?

Angulo: “If I hadn’t lost to Cintron, I would have already been in a title fight. That postponed it six months.”

Q: Is your focus only this match or getting to the title fight?

Angulo: “I never look forward to the next fight. I am always focused on this opponent. This fight is the only fight that I am thinking about. That has always been my game plan.”

Q: On working out in New Jersey for a couple of weeks:

Angulo: I came early to spend some time here with “papa” Gary (Shaw). I want my body to get acclimated to the weather because it is a lot colder than what I am used to, especially in November. I want to make sure I can keep my weight up in this weather. I’ve enjoyed the last week and will spend one more week in Gary’s home in New Jersey before we go to Connecticut next week.”

WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko will defend his title against American Kevin Johnson at the PostFinance Arena in Bern, Switzerland on December. 12.

The 38-year-old Klitschko, 38-2-(7)who, defeated Chris Arreola last month, will be making his third title defence this year.

Johnson boasts a record of 22-0-1-(9), last fought in May this year, beat Devin Vargas via sixth round stoppage.

’I feel top fit, had super preparations in Los Angeles and really enjoyed the fight against Arreola,’ said Klitschko, "I can barely wait to climb into the ring again."

WBC Super Middleweight champion Carl Froch is hoping a future match up with Mikkel Kessler will give him the accolades he claims he deserves.

Froch made it through a tough match up this weekend, scoring a split decision victory over Andre Dirrell and immediately set his sights on a unification bout.

"I think when we beat Kessler we'll get the accolades," he said. "He's next and that's one to look forward to.

"Kessler boxes a bit and is a good mover but he'll stand there and fight rather than hold and moan. I'll do what I have to do, if I'm struggling to box early on then I'll put it on him and stand and have a trade-off but we'll see.

"I do think Kessler will win a close decision, traveling to America to face Ward. I'd like him to win and when we meet it will be for the undisputed title, which is what I've craved since turning professional."

Froch's promoter Mick Hennessy admits his fighter may have to travel to fight Kessler.

"We'll begin talks now but we have an agreement with Sauerland Events (Kessler's promoters) that wherever it makes commercial sense and wherever we're going to get the biggest gate - whether it's Copenhagen or Nottingham - is where it will be," he said.


ADAMEK VACATES IBF TITLE!!!

Tomasz Adamek has formally vacated his IBF cruiserweight title. In a letter written to Marian Muhammad, President of the International Boxing Federation.

Adamek thanked the IBF for the opportunities he was given. He stated, “I am not leaving the IBF family. I will be fighting October 24 against Andrew Golota for the IBF International heavyweight title in Lodz, Poland. Further, when possible I hope to return to reclaim my IBF title.”

9In a fight of undefeated Super Middleweights it was the WBC champion Carl Froch who kept his record unscathed scoring a split decision victory over the slick Andre Dirrell (18-1, 13 KOs) on Saturday night at the Trent FM Arena in Nottingham, England.

In a very close fight, Dirrell was able to use his slick counter punching style to keep Froch from ever settings himself, throwing his big shots and was left frustrated for much of the bout. Dirrell had a point deducted for holding in round ten. In the end, Froch prevailed 115-112 on two cards, while Dirrell was up 114-113 on the third card.

Froch told reporters at ringside “I definitely felt like I won from round 1 through round 12. I’m not 100% satisfied because I like to feel like I won the fight and I feel like I could go in there another 12 rounds and still beat Dirrell.”

While a dejected Dirrell said “I worked my ass off. He came off strong in that last round but I boxed my ass off.” Dirrell continued, “I still don’t know why he (the referee) took the point from me. I don’t even remember a warning.”

Abraham Ko's Taylor!!!It was a case of deju vu last night for Jermain Taylor who suffered his second knockout loss in as many fights when he was left on the canvas with seconds remaining from a massive right hand from the Unbeaten Arthur Abraham (31-0, 25 KOs) at the sold out O2 World in Berlin, Germany in the first round of SHOWTIME’s “Super Six World Boxing Classic” super middleweight tournament.

Taylor started the quicker and managed to get get his jab working early, using feints and going to the body effectively but after the sixth round mark, Taylor's stamina again came into play as he already seemed like he was fading. After the midway point Abraham stalked and cut off the ring while being very patient in his build up. The ninth round gave Taylor a taste of the Abraham's power as he scored with a accurate right hand that left Taylor unsteady on his feet. Rounds Ten and Eleven saw Abraham looking for that one big shot and his time came in the Twelfth where he lined up a massive right hand that stopped Taylor in his tracks and left him unconscious on the canvas.

POST FIGHT COMMENTS:

Arthur Abraham: "I need a couple of rounds to analyze my opponent, And then I let him punch himself tired and then I strike back."

Jermain Taylor: "He just surprised me with the right. I didn't see it, But he hits hard, and he came to fight."

Mikkel Kessler: "I was impressed with Abraham," said Kessler, "He let Taylor come at him for a couple of rounds and then just went after him, and he sure can hit hard."

UNDERCARD:

WBC #7/WBA #10/WBO #12/IBF #13 Yoan Pablo Hernandez (20-1, 11 KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over Enad Licina (17-2, 10 KOs). Scores were 118-110, 116-112, 115-113.

Heavyweight Rene Dettweiler (25-2, 12 KOs) outpointed Gbenga Oloukun (17-2, 10 KOs) over eight rounds by scores of 77-75, 78-74, 77-75.

Unbeaten IBF Youth middleweight beltholder Dominik Britsch (16-0, 5 KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over Michael Recloux (13-9-2, 5 KOs). Scores were 98-92, 99-90, 99-90

Unbeaten light heavyweight Artur Hein (10-0, 5 KOs) won an eight round unanimous decision over Roberto Cocco (10-3, 5 KOs).

Unbeaten super featherweight Brandon Rios (22-0-1, 14 KOs) scored a seventh round TKO over Manny Perez (14-5-1, 2 KOs) on Saturday night at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Super flyweight contender Raul Martinez (25-1, 15 KOs) scored a fourth round TKO when Jonathan Perez (15-7, 12 KOs) didn’t come out for round five.

Mario Santiago (21-1-1, 14 KOs) won a split decision over Morris Chule (7-7-1, 7 KOs) in a super featherweight bout. Scores were 78-74, 79-73 for Santiago, 77-75 for Chule.

Super bantamweight Roberto Marroquin (10-0, 7 KOs) won a six round unanimous decision over Jose Garcia Bernal (26-18-1, 17 KOs) Scores were 60-53 on all cards.

Unbeaten featherweight Jerry Belmontes (10-0, 3 KOs) decisioned Adulato Gonzalez (11-8, 4 KOs) in a six-rounder, winning 60-54 on all cards.

Journeyman super bantamweight Sergio Gomez (14-5, 9 KOs) scored a fourth round stoppage of former two-time IBF world champion Luis Perez (25-4, 16 KOs) on Saturday night at the Polideportivo Espana in Managua, Nicaragua.

Friday night at the Palms Casino and Resort in Las Vegas, USBA champion Lajuan Simon (22-2-2, 12 KOs) retained his title with a twelve round unanimous decision win over Elvin Ayala (20-4-1, 9 KOs). The final scores were 118-110, 117-111 and 117-111.

BBBofC British super bantamweight successfully Jason "2 Smooth" Booth (34-5, 14 KOs) defended his title last night as he scored possibly the biggest win of his career stopping Michael Hunter (29-2-1, 13 KOs) after the fifth round. The bout was all Booth and he ground down the challenge of Hunter until a Liver shot in the fifth round had Hunter reeling and taking severe punishment. Hunter made it through the round but that would be the last we saw of him in the bout as he retired on his stool.

Former British Olympian Tony Jeffries (4-0, 3 KOs) had to go the distance for the first time as he decisoned Belarus Artem Solomko (10-18, 3 KOs) by a score of 60-54.

British heavyweight hope David Price continued unbeaten after stopping Liridon Memishi (0-1-1) in the second round.

Former world title challenger Antonio Pitalua (48-4, 42 KOs) scored an impressive fifth round TKO over veteran Wilfredo “Papin” Negron (26-12-1, 19 KOs) to claim the vacant WBO Latin welterweight title on Saturday night at Miccosukee Resort & Gaming in Miami, Florida. Pitalua dominated the entire bout getting the stoppage from the referee at the 2:09 mark of the fifth.

Former world title challenger Joel “Love Child” Julio (35-3, 31 KOs) pounded out a six round unanimous decision over Clarence “Sonny Bono” Taylor (14-23-4, 7 KOs) in a middleweight clash. Scores were 60-54, 60-54, 59-55.

Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista scored a seventh round stoppage over Marangin Marbun of Indonesia at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu, Philippines.

WBC #4 super featherweight Sergey Gulyakevich (27-2, 12 KOs) decisioned Latvian Jevgenijs Kirillovs (3-3-1, 3 KOs) with scores of 60-54 on all three judges’ scorecards.

WBC Super Middleweight champion Carl “The Cobra” Froch easily made weight yesterday tipping the scales at 167.4 pounds while Andre “The Matrix” Dirrell was left to sweat as he struggled to make the weight first time around missing the limit by .4 pounds at the historic Old Market Square in Nottingham. Dirrell returned to the gym where he did manage to shed the remaining weight and record under the 168 Pound weight limit by 167.5 pounds.

There was less drama in Berln yesterday as both men comfortably came in under the weight limit. “King” Arthur Abraham (30-0, 24 KOs) of Berlin, weighed in at the division limit 168 pounds while Jermain “Bad Intentions” Taylor (28-3-1, 17 KOs) of Little Rock weighed in at 166 ¼ pounds

13Miguel Cotto is confident come the evening of November 14th he will be ready for whatever Pound 4 Pound king Manny Pacquiao has to offer.

Talking to reporters yesterday Cotto said "I'm working for everything I think he's going to do, and I'm pretty sure that we're not going to have any problems the night of the fight,

When asked about the weight issue's he may have come fight nights, Cotto explained "I had a lot of trouble making the weight when I was a champion at 140, so if we thought we would have trouble making 145 pounds, we wouldn't have taken the fight, Trust me, I'm in my best shape ever."

After losing a brutal match up against the Mexican Antonio Margarito, Cotto returned by scoring a one sided TKO over the British fighter Michael Jennings and then went on to also beat Joshua Clottey. In that fight Cotto suffered severe cuts above his left eye before going on to win a 12-round decision, Many wondered why Cotto continued after the cut when he was clearly ahead on the judges scorecards at the time, but Cotto being Cotto he is always going to give the fight fans a fight.

"A lot of people wondered why I didn't allow the fight to be stopped, but I spent more than nine weeks preparing for the Clottey fight to make a great fight and a great show for the fans all over the world," said Cotto.

"There was a lot of pride on the line with myself and my family. No matter what the situation, no matter what the vision in my eye was, I always told the referee, 'I'm good.'"

"Even in my loss to Margarito, when I sit and I think of the fight, I realize that I had already done a great job," said Cotto. "I was happy with what I had done already, so I didn't think that I had too much to prove to anyone."

"I've been in good fights with Judah, Mosley, Clottey. If people saw Miguel Cotto in all of those years, and they didn't believe in me, then what else do I have to do.

"For those people not to believe in me, I can't do anything else. I'm here mostly to prove to myself that I'm better than Manny Pacquiao. I'm doing this for the pride of my family, my kids and my country."

WBC Heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko was involved in a scuffle this week while attending a city council meeting in Kiev. Vitali is active in Political circles in the Ukraine and It is thought Vitali was arguing his case against the government corruption when the scuffle occurred.

16While writing for the South Wales Argus, former Super Middleweight king Joe Calzaghe gave his thoughts on some of the big fights that are coming up in recent months and gave his predictions on each check out what he wrote below:

"Though at the moment my life is less about boxing and more about foxtrotting, there is just so much going on in the sport I love it’s impossible not to talk about it.

It’s an exciting time for boxing, with some big fights coming up, though as ever, there are some horrible reminders of what an unforgiving sport it can be.

First up is the super middleweight Super Six tournament, where six boxers, our own Carl Froch, my former foe and now friend Mikkel Kessler, Americans Jermain Taylor, Andre Dirrell, Andre Ward and Arthur Abraham will battle it out over the coming months. It will lead to a final and one man rightly declaring himself the best super middleweight out there.

People keep asking me whether I regret not being in it, as well as who I want to win. I am happy to set the record straight here.

I have mixed feelings on not being involved. Certainly, at the age I am, and with all I have achieved in my career, I am glad I am not fighting, because those days are gone, I am retired and intend to stay so.

But do I regret this tournament didn’t happen five years ago? Absolutely. Before I fought Jeff Lacy I was in no-man’s land at times and something like this, which I would have won, would have put me on the map big time.

In terms of who I want and expect to win, that’s tricky.

The best thing for British boxing would be a Carl Froch win, I am sick of him talking about me and don’t want to put him down anymore, he’s got a lot of heart, is a big-hitter and deserves great credit for his career.

He’s very vulnerable as he doesn’t really defend too much, but I expect him to beat Andre Dirrell on Saturday and to go fairly well in this. I wish him the best of luck, but if a year of inactivity hasn’t affected Mikkel Kessler too badly, he’s head and shoulders the best fighter in the tournament. I don’t fancy Froch’s chances if he faces Kessler, but I wish him well anyway.

I also hope to see another big night for British boxing in a couple of weeks when David Haye takes on giant Nikolay Valuev, in Germany, where he’s going to have to go some to get a decision!

I fully expect David to win this fight, I personally don’t rate the seven-foot Valuev at all, he struggled last time out against Evander Holyfield who is well and truly shot.

David will have to adapt his strategy and make sure he is not mauled by the giant, but I think it’s a much better fight for David than going in against one of the Klitschko brothers. I think he’s going to bring a world title back to Britain.

One heavyweight who won’t do that is Audley Harrison, who still doesn’t convince me after his Prizefighter victory.

I’ve only read about it, but I haven’t heard very good things and still think he lacks heart. It was a shame Danny Williams – a great friend of mine – saw his career end in a whimper, but like I said at the start of this column, boxing can be so cruel. At least Danny is still healthy though.

I am distraught to hear that Midlander Howard Clark, who was boxing as recently as 2007, has dementia and will never be able to work again, suffering with his speech and vision, at just 42-years of age. Again it shows just how punishing and cruel boxing can be. When people wonder why I am so adamant I am not returning, they should remember stories like these. My thoughts go out to Howard and his family and I hope his benefit night tonight is a huge success.

There is barely room for me to mention the Calzaghe Promotions Show set for the Newport Centre on November 20, but I will discuss that next week in these pages in far greater detail later, with Bradley Pryce and the returning Tony Doherty headlining the bill.

I would also like to highly recommend a DVD out next week, called Undefeated, the story of, well me!

It features my full fight against Roy Jones and is a two-disc special, something I am immensely proud of"


PEREZ RESPONDS TO AGBEKO KO PREDICTION!!!

Yesterday IBF batamweight champion Joseph Agbeko made the bold prediction that he will knockout Top-ranked IBF contender Yonnhy Perez on Oct. 31 in Las Vegas.

Perez was told about the statement and responded to various reporters saying “I like the fact that Abgeko thinks he is coming to knock my block off, I really want him to show me how good he is. I love for fighters to make bold predictions. Just ask Silence Mabuza about his prediction before our fight last May. Ask him about his desire to go home early that night. Silence will tell you how dead wrong he was.”

“King Kong thinks he can measure himself by his victory over Vic Darchinyan, who only tried to knock him out from the first bell and came up in weight to face him,’’ Perez said.

“I am bringing my entire arsenal on Oct. 31. I will come out victorious and take the belt away from a great champion like Abgeko – and shut him up in the process.”

An undefeated Colombian who resides in California, Perez is putting the final touches to his preparation for the biggest fight of his career.

“Agbeko, be careful what you wish for,” screamed Perez during a blazing sparring session on Wednesday

8It seem that Mixed Martial Arts inst Bernard Hopkins preferred sport has he caused controversy yesterday by the sport.

Hopkins, 44, is adamant it cannot be compared to the sweet science.

He fumed: "Everybody is different but I don't want to watch two grown men wrestling with panties on. I'm from the hood, we don't play that. To me, I'm not buying a ticket to watch two grown men with panties on, sweating, with nuts in their face. That's not me.

"To compare that to boxing is ludicrous. It's a porno — it's an entertainment porno.

"I'm not wrestling a guy with panties on and his nuts in my face."

Hopkins insists he would not have a problem with MMA if its core audience was made up mainly of women. But he clearly believes men should spend their time watching something else.

The American added: "I'm not criticising people for what kind of entertainment they like. But I think most of those people have chains and masks in their closets. I can understand if 90 per cent of women were going to those things but I can't understand a grown man sitting there with a couple of guys watching two grown men with panties on, sweating. That's just my opinion but it's not a good look."

2004 U.S. Olympic gold medalist and Oakland native Andre “S.O.G.” Ward and current World Boxing Association (WBA) super middleweight world champion Mikkel “Viking Warrior” Kessler have to wait until Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif., for their first fight in the SHOWTIME® Super Six World Boxing Classic, but that doesn’t mean they won’t sound off on this weekend’s fights from Nottingham, England and Berlin, Germany.

The historic tournament begins on Saturday, Oct. 17, with a split-feed doubleheader live at LIVE 8 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast) on SHOWTIME.

Ward will be rooting for the Americans on Saturday night, and he says his money is on his fellow ’04 Olympian and a former middleweight kingpin against their favored European opponents.

“Overall, of course I’m pulling for the Americans in each bout,” Ward said as he prepares to fight Kessler in his first world title shot. “I don’t think anyone has given any of the three of us much of a chance to get past the first round with a victory.”

In the first fight on same-day-tape-delay, undefeated former middleweight champion “King” Arthur Abraham (30-0, 24 KOs) of Berlin, Germany, will face former undisputed middleweight titleholder Jermain “Bad Intentions” Taylor (28-3-1, 17 KOs) of Little Rock, Ark., at the o2 World Arena in Berlin, Germany.

“With Jermain Taylor and Arthur Abraham stylistically, I don’t think Abraham is going to put a whole lot of pressure on Taylor in the later rounds,” Ward said. “I think Jermain has worked on his stamina problems, and will be well prepared for the later rounds in this fight. I just feel like Jermain is the bigger, stronger man.

“If Jermain fights a disciplined fight, he should also come out of the first round with a victory. But that’s the beauty of boxing and this tournament, you never know what’s going to happen, so everyone is going to have to tune in on Saturday night. “

Immediately following Abraham-Taylor, Carl “The Cobra” Froch (25-0, 20 KOs) of Nottingham, England, will defend his World Boxing Council (WBC) title against 2004 Olympic Games medalist Andre “The Matrix’’ Dirrell (18-0, 13 KOs) of Flint, Mich., LIVE on SHOWTIME from the Trent FM Arena in Nottingham, England.

“In the Dirrell-Froch fight, I feel that if Dirrell fights a disciplined fight and continues to do what he’s been doing in the ring, but does it better because this is another level of competition, I don’t see why he won’t walk away with the victory,” Ward said.

The Danish star Kessler is less committal about the first fights in Group Stage 1 of the tournament and seems more interested in just watching some great boxing matches.

"The Super Six tournament will revolutionize the boxing scene,” Kessler said. “The concept only allows the best fighters to participate from the super middle weight division, starting with Abraham vs. Taylor and Froch vs. Dirrell this Saturday. I will at the O2 World in Berlin to see Abraham vs. Taylor."

"I am looking forward to seeing the Abraham-Taylor fight live in Berlin. The key words of the fight are power vs. intelligence as I see it -- Abraham as raw power and Taylor as the smart/intelligent fighter. Hopefully, the fight will promote the Super Six tournament as it should be promoted. That counts as well for the Froch-Dirrell fight later that night in Nottingham."

While Kessler sees Abraham-Taylor as a battle of power vs. intelligence, he’s got a different view on Froch-Dirrell as both fighters have tremendous knockout potential.

"Froch-Dirrell is experience vs. the eager of youth,” Kessler said. “Froch is known for his stamina and ability to return when everything is against him. Dirrell is a super talent -- he is young, but has already proven his position in the division. He is difficult to fight because he is changing styles all the time. Again, this is a fight that is hard to predict."

Regardless of who wins, Kessler just seems to be excited about what this tournament will do for the future of the super middleweight division and boxing in general.

"As a fighter I look forward to be a part of this great tournament, but as a boxing fan also, I am very excited to follow all the other fights in the tournament," Kessler said.

"Hopefully the group stage concept will create even more entertaining fights -- at least I hope so. A K.O. victory will put you close to the semifinals! The tactical dimensions of the fights will be changed with this concept without a doubt."

The Kessler-Ward battle in Oakland for Kessler’s WBA title will be Ward’s first world title fight and Kessler’s third defense.

WBO Super Bantamweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez will face off against WBO Featherweight champion Steven Luevano on January 23rd that's according to Ivan Rivera, President of Puerto Rico Best Boxing. The fight will be co- headlined by a scintillating bout which will also see WBA featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa take on the hard hitting Filipino Bernabe Concepcion.

Rivera told El Nuevo Dia about Juanma's clash "Everything indicates that it will be Steven Luevano. The first reason is because he is also with Top Rank and it is a much better deal. The second reason is Juanma always talked about gaining weight after the fight with Rogers Mtagawa. For a long time, Juanma as had a difficult time getting down to 122Ibs"

Rivera then went on to state that if Juanma comes through the fight with Luevano a fight with WBC Featherweight champion Elios Rojas would be next up not one with Yuriorkis Gamboa.

The highly anticipated rematch between WBC world light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (24-1-0, 16 KOs) from Laval, and former WBC champion Adrian “The Shark” Diaconu (26-1-0 15 KOs) from Montreal was confirmed yesterday by InterBox and Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM) which will take place Friday, December 11th 2009 at the Montreal Bell Centre.

A press conference will take place on Tuesday October 20th at 11 AM where InterBox and GYM will offIcially announce the fight with both fighters present and available for Interviews.

Jamie Moore could be in line for a shot at the WBC Light middleweight title with promoter Frank Maloney preparing to travel east and west early next month.

Moore (32-3) as to first get by his upcoming European light-middleweight title defence against fellow southpaw Ryan Rhodes (42-4), which will double as a WBC title eliminator.

Moore, 30, is currently ranked third in the WBC standings behind Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr and Kermit Cintron for their 154lb title held by Sergio Martinez.

Maloney will fly east to Jeju, Korea with Moore and the boxer’s manager and co-promoter Steve Wood in the first week of November to press their claims at the WBC convention.

Moore explained: “I was very close to getting Martinez over here. A couple of months ago talks were held with his promoter Lou DiBella, but after good signs early on during negotiations, they didn’t want to come to England and face Jamie. The offer was fantastic and Jamie was willing to take the fight for chump change. I can’t see how Martinez had ever earned the money that was on the table.

“The WBC belt is the most prestigious in boxing and the one Jamie wants to get his hands on more than anything. When Jamie attends the WBC convention he will put his case to them. I’m then going west to Las Vegas where I am going to suggest to Bob Arum that Jamie fights Chavez Jnr in a final eliminator, or even an interim title.

“It will be hard to bring Chavez Jnr to England because of the TV business he does in the United States and Mexico, but I am so confident that Mooresy has his measure we would travel. If he doesn’t beat Rhodes though that will all become no more than a dream that is unlikely to ever happen and Jamie isn’t looking beyond Ryan even if there looks like being a pot of gold at the end of the tunnel.”

Kelly Pavlik yesterday gave his view on the Super Middleweight competition that kicks off this weekend and told Joe Scalzo of the Youngstown Vindicator he could easily beat the overall winner.

Kelly went on to say “Whoever the winner is…I’ll kick his butt. Let them beat each other up. Let them ruin their careers for peanuts, that’s like the Browns quarterback Brady Quinn playing for $300 a week. It’s bull. Showtime never asked me and I never wanted to join. I fought my way up for seven years, I’ve fought for $3 million and $2.5 million a fight…yeah, the economy is bad, but there’s still more money out there."

“Trust me, when the winner of that tournament fights his next fight, it’ll be on HBO,” Pavlik declared. “I like HBO, I will fight for HBO. All the big-time fighters like Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, the Klitschkos — they all fight on HBO.”

19Freddie Roach wants automatic disqualification for deliberate low blows when Manny Pacquiao faces Miguel Cotto next month.

The Filipino ring icon, currently P4P king, takes on Puerto Rican superstar Cotto in a mouthwatering showdown at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Roach, currently preparing the Pacman to challenge for Cotto's WBO welterweight title, wants whoever takes charge of the bout to keep a close eye on Miguel's famed body shots.

Cotto was docked a point for low blows in his win over Zab Judah in 2007, but maintained the blows had been accidental.

"Cotto stops his opponents' momentum with that kind of blow," American Roach told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

"In that Judah fight he had five low blows."

Roach says he will raise the issue at a rules meeting ahead of the November 14 clash in Las Vegas

WBC Super Middleweight champion Carl Froch believes Andre Dirrell' trash talking is just to mask his insecurity.

Andre Dirrell continued his war of words yesterday saying he'll expose the Nottingham fighter "like a Page 3 pin-up" at the Trent FM Arena on Saturday.

Froch though believes that the talk emanating from the challenger is all a front.

"I think it's a case of his mouth writing cheques that his butt can't cash," said Froch.

"All this trash talk from him this close to the fight only confirms the first impressions I had of him when we all met up in New York to launch the Super Six.

"I think all the big talk is just to mask his own insecurities that maybe he's not ready for this level. It sounds like he'd sooner take me on at baseball then step in to a ring with me.

"I think it's dawned on him that now he has to step into the ring with the world's best fighters and maybe he's starting to doubt his own ability.

"If that's the case then the last place he needs to be next Saturday night is in a boxing ring at the Trent FM Arena, in front of 10,000 Cobra fans and with me standing in the opposite corner.

"It's going to be a very, very lonely place for him and all the talk in the world will count for nothing when that first bell rings."

Iceman to enter the Connecticut hall of fame!!!There isn't much you can tell Iceman John Scully about anything boxing related because he is one man, like the saying goes that has been there, did it and bought the T-shirt. He's had a very successful amateur and professional career being a boxer, went on to become an analyst for ESPN, is the author of the book named "Iceman Diaries" and can now be seen spending most of his time training professional and amateur fighters that includes the likes of "Bad" Chad Dawson, Pito Cardona, Matt “Too Smooth” Godfrey, “Sucra” Ray Olivera, Scott “The Sandman” Pemberton, Lawrence Clay-Bey and the latest rising star Matt “The Sharpshooter” Remillard.

“Iceman” John Scully is a native of Windsor (Connecticut) and it was announced by the CTBHOF Committee last week that he will lead the class of 2009 inductees into the Connecticut Boxing Hall Of Fame.

The fifth class of Connecticut’s Hall Of Famer’s will be enshrined on Saturday, November 21, at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Lopez survives War!!!In a possible fight of the year contender Unbeaten WBO Jr Featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (27-0, 24 KOs) was made to work for his title this time out as he recorded a unanimous decision against the toughest test of his career so far against Rogers Mtagwa (26-13-2, 18 KOs) on Saturday night inside the WaMu Theatre at Madison Square Garden, New York City.

After twelve rounds of toe to toe action all three judges scored the fight in the champions favor by scores of 114-113, 115-111, and 116-111. The bout was an all out war as Juanma was able to win a lot of the earlier rounds scoring a knockdown in the process. In round three Rogers connected with a big overhand right that opened a cut over the eye of the champion but in Round four Lopez came back strong to stagger the challenger. Both fighters had a big round eight that saw Lopez connect with a lot of hurtful shots but this spurred on Mtagawa who bite down on his mouth piece and connected with his own big shots to hurt Lopez late on. Rounds nine and ten were rounds marred by fouls with the referee warning for low blows and a clash of heads. The eleventh round had fight fans on their feet as Mtagawa connected with a solid left right combination the had Lopez reeling. Every time Lopez connected Mtagawa found something to come back with and this was the case in the last round where the Champion was made to dig deep as the challenger connected and hammered Lopez with vicious shots but was unable to score the elusive knockdown and both fighters were left stamina less to finish the bout with fight fans on their feet knowing they had witnessed a great fight.

Although Lopez took home the title and deserved to do so.The big winners last night were of course the fight fans in attendance who witnessed an amazing fight. Possible the best 2009 had to offer.

WBA featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (16-0, 14 KOs) needed just four rounds against Whyber Garcia (22-7, 15 KOs) who let his hands go and dropped the challenger face first to the canvas. Garcia incredible beat the count but Gamboa proved a great finisher which left the referee with no option but to end proceedings with the Time being :58 of the fourth.

After the fight Gamboa was asked about a possible super fight with Juan Manuel Lopez with the Cuban telling reporters “I want to prove that I am the best boxer in the world. So I will take on everybody who believes that he is better than me.”

Unbeaten 2004 Olympic heavyweight gold medalist Odlanier Solis (15-0, 11 KOs) could prove a very dangerous man in the heavyweight division and showed his power on Saturday night dropping late sub Monte Barrett (34-8, 20 KOs) with a big left hook in round two and finished him moments later.

After the fight promoter Ahmet Öner told reporters “This was a real statement by Solis, Barrett is no tomato can but Solis made him look like one although he had only three days to adjust to the new opponent. Odlanier just walk through him like he will walk through every opponent who crosses his way.”

“I was very well prepared and knew exactly what I had to do”, stated Solis after the fight. “I hadn’t expected to catch him this fast but I waited for my chance and took it when it came across.”
After this extraordinary performance in his first ever pay-per-view appearance the reigning WBC international champion will advance to a top spot in the WBC ratings. “It is our goal to make Solis the mandatory challenger for Vitali Klitschko as soon as possible”, adds Ahmet Öner. “He showed tonight that he is the future of the heavyweight division. He got what it takes to become undisputed champion of the world.”

Super welterweight Pawel Wolak (25-1, 17 KOs) scored a fifth round TKO over Carlos Nascimento (24-2, 20 KOs).

Middleweight John Duddy (27-1, 17 KOs) scored an eight round unanimous decision over Jorge Munoz (21-4, 13 KOs). Scores were 80-73 and 79-73 twice.

Super bantamweight Jorge Diaz (10-0, 6 KOs) shocked fight fans with a sixth round stoppage over 2004 Cuban Olympic gold medalist Yan Barthelemy (8-2, 1 KO). Time was 1:07.

PR Olympian cruiserweight Carlos Negron (5-0, 4 KOs) continued his winning streak by decisioning Larry Pryor (4-5) by scores of 40-36 and 39-37 twice over four.

Super lightweight “Son of the Legend” Omar Chavez (18-0-1, 13 KOs) outpointed James Ventry (7-10-1, 4 KOs) over six rounds by scores of 59-54 and 58-55 twice. Ventry went down from a right in the first round.

Lightweight Martin Tucker (7-4, 3 KOs) won a six round unanimous decision over Michael Torres (13-1, 7 KOs) by scores of 57-56 all on three judges’ cards.

Two-time junior featherweight world champion Israel Vazquez (44-4, 32 KOs) scored a brilliant ninth round TKO over Angel Priolo (30-8, 20 knockouts) on Saturday night at the Nokia Theater. Vazquez had to find his rhythm early on and looked a bit rusty after the 19 month layoff, In round nine “Magnifico” dropped Priolo to the canvas three times before the referee stopped the fight at 2:10.

Unbeaten Featherweight Ronny Rios (8-0, 4 KO’s) scored a sixth round stoppage of John Wampash

Junior Middleweight Luis Grajeda stopped Juan Carlos Diaz in the second round of a scheduled six round bout.

Junior Featherweight Khabir Suleymanov (9-0, 4 KO’s) scored a fourth round knockout over Hugo Ramos. Ramos (2-4-1, 1 KO)

Welterweight Ricky Duenas (4-1, 2 KO’s) stopped Jose Cardenas at 2:09 of the third round in a scheduled four round bout.

Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Denis Boytsov (26-0, 21 KOs) scored the twenty first knockout of his career with a seventh round TKO over Jason Gavern (18-6-3, 8 KOs) on Saturday night at the Stadthalle in Rostock, Germany.

WBA bantamweight champion Anselmo “Chemito” Moreno (27-1-1, 10 KOs) stopped Jorge Otero (20-9-2, 8 KOs) in the sixth round. Throughout the bout Moreno boxed beautifully throughout and looked on a different level skill wise to Otero who looked out of answers.

Former WBA junior featherweight Ricardo “Maestrito” Cordoba (35-2-2, 22 KOs) scored a ten round stoppage of Colombian prospect Eddy Julio (10-1-1, 9 KOs), at the Roberto Duran Arena, presented by Premium Boxing Promotions

Unbeaten challenger Juan Carlos Salgado (22-0-1, 16 KOs) may have scored one of the upsets of 2009 by stopping formerly unbeaten WBA super featherweight world champion Jorge Linares (27-1, 18 KOs) in just 73 seconds. Selgado didn't waste any time in brutally knocking down Linares twice in the first round before stopping the former champion at the 73 second mark in Tokyo on Saturday.

Nathan Cleverly (18-0, 8 KOs) last night kept his British and Commonwealth light heavyweight titles via a eight round stoppage victory over former amateur king Courtney Frey (13-3, 5 KOs) at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London.

The fight started slow with Cleverly looking to attack the body and control the fight with his jab and both fighters scored with accurate shots early on. Cleverly must have sensed the end of the fight was near at the sixth round stage as he upped his work rate and started to catch Frey at an higher rate. The eighth saw the end of the fight where Nathan scored with a big right uppercut that rocked Frey and followed the shot with a good right hand that left referee Victor Loughlin with no option but to stop the fight

British Olympian Billy Joe Saunders (4-0, 3 KOs) went the distance for the first time in his career scoring a decision over the Latvian Spitko (6-16, 4 KOs). The score was 40-36.

Heavyweight Derek Chisora (11-0, 6 KOs) stopped Zurab Noniashvili (12-7-1, 6 KOs) in the third round.

Unbeaten Featherweight Juan Carlos Burgos scored the sixteenth stoppage of his career with a sixth round TKO of Yogli Herrera at Ontario in California, with the win Burgos retained his WBC CABOFE belt.

4Andre Dirrell has branded Carl Froch a "tiresome gasbag" and says the Briton will not stop him realising his world-title dream when they meet in Nottingham on October 17 in the Super Six World Boxing Classic tournament..

He said: "I've spent my whole life dreaming of this night when I fight for the world title.

"Froch has been foaming at the mouth saying how hopeless my chances are against him. Frankly I find his rants tiresome. No wonder Joe Calzaghe didn't give him a shot.

"He's a gasbag. He may have fought southpaws and orthodox-style fighters, but he has never fought a switch-hitter like me.

"I'm going to go Mickey Mantle on him and shoot the works from the moment the bell rings."

Dirrell's promoter Gary Shaw says he's happy to see his man being written off in some quarters.

He said: "Andre is considered the dark horse of this tournament and that's just fine with us.

"No-one gave him a chance against Victor Oganov or Anthony Hanshaw and he had an early night with both of them, knocking them out in the sixth and fifth rounds, respectively.

"I have no doubt Andre will be the new WBC super-middleweight champion on October 17 and I have no doubt Andre will be in the finals of this illustrious tournament."

15Middleweight John Duddy will enter the ring this Saturday with suggestions from promoter Bob Arum ringing in his ears that a clash with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr could be on the cards for early next year.

Duddy will take on Jorge 'Michi' Munoz at Madison Square Garden on Saturday and he insists he will be putting any potential super fight to the back of his mind while focusing on the job at hand.

Both Duddy and Chavez Jr are massive fan favourites that fill attendances everywhere they fight which is sure to have alerted Bob Arum.

"If Chavez gets by November 14, the plan is for each of them to fight other opponents December 19 in Cancun, and then to fight back here in New York around St Patrick's (March 17)," said Arum.

"Duddy is coming back from a defeat, but we expect him to be featured in some major fights down the road. He is a very big crowd favourite in this area."

Upon hearing the news of promoter Bob Arum, The northern Irish fighter seemed calm telling reporters "Julio Cesar Chavez Jr is a fantastic fighter, He's got an unbelievable amount of fans and if it happens, it happens.

"But for me I'm just focused on October 10. I'm firmly focused on getting the job done at the Garden again."

JUAN MANUEL LOPEZ - He’s a real tough guy and I know he can take a lot of punches. I don’t think it’s going to be an easy fight and I know it is going to be a long fight. There are older guys in boxing that have done a lot, but I know my abilities and I know what I can do and I know I can beat him. People think it will be an easy fight because he has a lot of losses but I will have to work hard to get it.

I think with this guy you have to step away from him a little bit. He’s a little awkward and I have been practicing stepping back a little bit. If a knockout comes it comes but I don’t go in there looking for it. I just keep working. I would love a first round knockout and if it comes it will be an easy night, but that is not going to happen every night.

My skills have always been there but I don’t get to use them. I have not had someone to push me. I know that better fighters will come along and they will make me fight.

For any Puerto Rican, this is a big site, this is a big venue and this is where you want to be, This is where you want to showcase yourself like Miguel Cotto and Tito Trinidad. I talk to Tito almost every day and he tells how exciting it is to fight in the Garden. It is a very special place to fight.

I am on the road to gaining all the exposure that I need. I just need to keep fighting bigger fights and I feel that we are on the right road.

I'd like to win four titles in four weight divisions, something no Puerto Rican has ever done. That is my goal. I feel like I will go to 126 sooner rather than later.

I started at 21 years old and have been fighting for five years at 122 pounds and now my body is ready to go up.

My idol is and always has been Tito Trinidad. We have become real good friends and he calls me all the time and we talk about everything. He can’t be here because he has something with his daughter but he has been to most of my title fights.

He tells me that the fights are won in the gym and that is what I always try to do. He always tells me about the great experiences he has had at the Garden. I get excited when he talks about the fights he has had here and that is why I am so excited to fight here and follow in his footsteps.

A lot of people are talking about Gamboa, but I don’t think about that. I think about my next fight. Gamboa fight may happen but that is far down the road.

YURIORKIS GAMBOA - Just by being in the storied building means that I am achieving my goals.

I have to win the fights and win convincingly to get to where I want to get…bigger fights and bigger paydays.

You don’t measure a man by how many times he falls, but by how many times he gets up.

It was a big risk for me to leave and take the stuff that I took, leaving not only the boxing team but leaving my country. It just goes on to prove that if I seat a goal I can accomplish it.

We had none of the commodities (in Cuba) that we enjoy here today. My family and my friendships are the things that I miss the most. My family knows every step I take and they are very proud of that. They know what this venue means.

I can feel the energy like it is on my doorstep, but first I have to pass this test on Saturday before I think about what happens next.

There is no one that I have copied a style from. I never really got to see many professional fights in Cuba, just one here or one there. I have just made my own style. Videos circle around the neighborhoods and sometimes tourists bring over tapes.

I want to win the title and have a big fight like Sugar Ray Leonard, Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya in the States because I love America and it’s my goal to make a big fight like in Las Vegas or Madison Square Garden in New York. This Super Six Tournament will only help me get that big fight in America.

“The thing I know about Taylor is that he’s beaten Hopkins. I know he’s a good boxer. There’s nothing really else I can say about him. I don’t really think I should praise him anymore here. So we’ll just see what happens on Oct. 17.

“In the past my biggest fight was to make weight but not anymore. I’m just so happy when I go work out that I don’t have worry about that. I’m a happy man being a super middleweight.

“I always think the fight will go the distance. I’m never thinking the knock out. I’m just thinking about going the distance.

“I take every fight seriously. This is no different than any other fight. Losing is not an option for me.”

JERMAIN TAYLOR - “I feel like I’m going to win the fight. I’ve done everything there is to do in boxing. I’m not ready to go yet. I feel like there is more to accomplish.

“I feel like I’m the bigger fighter. I’m a lot stronger. As long as I don’t get tired I’m going to win the fight.

“I don’t have a prediction on how long the fight will go. I don’t care how I do it. I just want to win.

“I know Arthur is a big hitter. I know what I’m going to do and I know what needs to be done on Oct. 17

“I don’t worry about the crowd. The crowd doesn’t get in the ring. It’s just me and the other guy. If you hit the guy the crowd goes, ‘Ooh and ahh’ but it never gets to the point where it matters in the fight.

“I’ve fought the best of the best in boxing. I’ve won some and lost some. I just want to win this tournament. There ain’t nothing else to it. It’s not about the money or anything but that I want to win. I plan to just leave it all in there. That’s all I got. That’s my state of mind right now. No excuses. Just go in there and fight.

“The only reason I lost to Carl Froch was because I got tired. I wasn’t prepared. The best fighter lost because he didn’t train right.”

LOU DiBELLA - “Jermain is I think more focused on this fight than I’ve ever seen him focused on any fight. It’s been all business. He’s lean and mean and already on weight which is a great thing this far out.

“We have a great amount of respect for Arthur Abraham. Anybody that can sustain a broken jaw early in a fight and fight through that and win the fight and retain his title has to get a tremendous amount of respect. But we don’t think that Arthur’s ever been with anybody who’s athletically gifted or big or fast as Jermain. We feel Arthur has the home crowd behind him but we have the better horse, the better fighter in the ring.

“We feel like we’re going to shock some people in Berlin when Jermain Taylor reestablishes himself as the king of 168-pounders.

“By any measure Jermain has had a tremendous career. I tend to think Jermain is really underappreciated. The level of fight that Jermain has fought since his first Hopkins fight there’s no champion or top fighter in boxing who can claim back-to-back-to-back-to-back big kind of fights. Literally everyone he’s fought has had championship pedigree. He will not back down from anyone. Jermain has always had the attitude of whoever you put in front of me I’ll fight them.”

OZELL NELSON - “We know Arthur is a big hitter so we’ve been working on a bunch of different ways to take away some of that power. Jermain’s in excellent shape and had his weight down for the first time in years. It’s not like his last fight where he was losing 20 pounds in a couple of weeks.

Thailand's Denkaosen Kaowichit retained his World Boxing Association flyweight title via a majority decision today against the tough Japanese challenger Daiki Kameda at the Osaka Central Gymnasium.

Scores from the judges were 115-113 115-113 with the third judge scoring the contest a 114-114 draw.

Kameda towered over the champion but was kept at bay by Denkaosen's jab and stiff combinations.

Amir Khan v Dmitriy Salita is official and will take place at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle on Saturday 5th December promoter Frank Warren confirmed today.

Dmitriy Salita is an observant Jew and strictly follows Jewish law so if he fights on a Saturday then it must begin after sundown, the end of the sabbath. He famously said, “Anyone who wants a good whuppin’ from me is just going to have to wait until sundown.”

Warren told reporters “Salita’s got a great record, he’s unbeaten and carries a big punch and of course he will pose a threat to Amir, but Amir’s a world class fighter and has to deal with these challengers. I’ve promoted a lot of shows in Newcastle with all the big names like Naz, Calzaghe, Hatton and Benn and I’m delighted to bring Amir to the city for the first time. The public there are big sports fans and love the big events and it’s great to bring them a fight like Khan v Salita.”

After a brilliant stoppage victory over Jon Thaxton on the weekend Uk prospect John Murray immediatly set his sights on a massive future bout with current World champion Amir Khan. but before anyone gets too carried away boxing promoter Frank Warren has today poured cold water on the suggestion of the bout and went on to tell reporters how Murray was offered the Khan fight but choose to turn it down.

Warren told reporters "We made an offer to John and they never came back, so that is dead in the water now," he said.

"We don't want any cry baby stuff now saying they want this and that. They had their opportunity and they didn't even respond to it. He was on the list. He was one of the guys we were talking to and we are still talking to a couple more at the moment. John was a possibility, providing he could have got rated, but that was a fight I definitely would have wanted."

Murray's camp believes the fight would go down in British boxing history with Murray's trainer Joe Gallagher saying: "If you make John Murray v Amir Khan, the MEN Arena would sell out.

"It's one of the biggest fights in British boxing now. People want Ricky Hatton v Khan, but with Murray and Khan you've got two hungry fighters like Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank."

"Not only will we fight him, but we will give him a re-match because he will need it," he said.

Due to the fact WBC lightweight world champion Edwin Valero was denied a Visa to fight in the United States the WBC President Jose Sulaiman today announced the WBC Board of Governors had instead approved an interim title fight between #1 Antonio Demarco and #2 Jose Alfaro.

The WBC is basing its decision on rule 1.27 which states that the organization has the authority to approve an interim championship in the event of medical or legal cases that prevent a champion defending his title for over six months.

Commonwealth and British champion Nathan Cleverly will defend his title this Saturday against a tough test in Courtney Fry but already is looking at bigger and brighter things looking to capture a European title next after being nominated by the European Boxing Union as a challenger for the vacant European title.

Cleverly, 22, told reporters on Monday that he was stoked by the pressure of a potential European title should he win.

"It's exciting, and I'm enjoying the pressure of the occasion. I always wanted to go the traditional route of British, Commonwealth and European titles.

"After that, I want world title fights, but I'm not underestimating Fry in any way, and he'll be coming to win on Friday."

Warren said: "I don't often look more than a fight ahead, but I thought it would do Nathan good to know what's at stake here. It's a huge incentive."

SATURDAY NIGHTS RESULTS:

Murray stops Thaxton!!!John Murray regained the British lightweight title last night with a fourth round stoppage of hard hitting Jon Thaxton in Altrincham.

Murray was dominante throughout the four rounds with the referee in agreemenet and stopping the 35-year-old Thaxton after he was staggered by an arcing right hand.

Thaxton told reporters after the fight of his disapointment saying "I felt I could have gone on, I wasn't hurt, it was no way for a British title fight to be stopped."

Antonin Decarie scored a knockout of Terrence Cauthen (33-6 9KO) at 2:59 of the 10th round. The Canadian fighter kept his unbeaten record which now stands at 23-0

After the fight Decarie told reporters “The ninth round I tried to finish him but I was just too wide with my shots, The 10th round though I just settled down and managed to catch him.”

Middleweight knockout king David Lemieux annihilated another opponent in Donnie McCrary (24-10-2 13KO) scoring a knockout in the very first round at 2:40

Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez (12-0, 8 KOs) scored a unanimous decision over Darnell Boone over 8 rounds at Twin River Event Center in Lincoln, Rhode Island.

Sherzod Husanov (14-0-1, 7 KOs) captured the WBC International light middleweight crown last night with a one-sided twelve-round unanimous decision over Timur Nergadze (12-1-1, 2 KOs)

Vyacheslav Senchenko (30-0, 20 KOs) retained his WBA welterweight title with a lopsided unanimous decision over Motoki Sasaki (32-8-1, 20 KOs) at Druzhba Palace of Sports in Donetsk, Ukraine.

EBU featherweight champion Oleg Yefimovich stopped Esham Pickering (34-9, 13 KOs).

Former world heavyweight challenger David Tua (50-3-1, 43 KOs) stopped Shane Cameron (23-2, 20 KOs) in two rounds at Hamilton, New Zealand Saturday.

Cameron started the better by scoring with his jab but it wasnt long before Tua connected with his famed left hook that dropped Cameron to the canvas for an eight count. Round two saw Tua come out aggressively while looking to attack Cameron with both hands. Tua had Cameron in trouble again in the second which gave referee Bruce McTavish little choice but to stop the bout in favour of Tua.

Super middleweight Allan Green (29-1, 20 KOs) won a hard fought ten round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Tarvis Simms (25-1-1 11 KOs) on Saturday night at the First Council Casino in Newkirk, Oklahoma. scores of 98-92, 99-91, 97-93.

Welterweight Antwone Smith (17-1-1, 9 KOs) scored an impressive ninth round TKO over Henry Crawford (22-1-1, 9 KOs).

Super middleweight Marcus Johnson (18-0, 14 KOs) took a one-sided eight round unanimous decision over tough Victor Villereal (8-4-2, 4 KOs).

Middleweight Tyrone Brunson (20-0-1, 19 KOs) was made to go the distance for the first time in his career as he took an eight round decision over Marcos Primera (20-20-2, 13 KOs). The scores were 76-72 76-74 and 78-75 all in favor of Brunson.

72000 Olympic Gold Medallist Audley Harrison took the British Prizefighter title last night winning by a second round stoppage of Coleman Barrett in the final at the ExCeL Arena in London.

Barrett started the bout a huge underdog and started the bout very aggressively looking to score a big upset, sadly though this wasnt to be because although Barrett seemed to stun Harrison in the first round it was the second that undone all his hard work and from a left hand Barrett was sent to the canvas, He beat the count but was on too shaky legs to continue, and referee Dave Parris waved the final off at 2:40 to crown Harrison the Prizefighter king.

Coleman Barrett continues with decision over Carl Baker

After Baker's victory in the Quarter Final he started this one the favourite but Barrett managed to take the second and third rounds on the judges scorecards to score yet another upset winning by 29-28 on all three scorecards.

Audley Harrison decisions Danny Hughes

Harrison went the distance for the first time in the tournament but was head and shoulders above Hughes in terms of skill and managed to drop Hughes before taking the judges scorecards of 29-27, 29-28 and 30-26.

Carl Baker delivered the upset of the tournament with a Unanimous decision over Danny Williams. Also to note it the fact Wiliams was floored on three occasions. Scores were 29-26, 28-27 and 28-26

Scott Belshaw was no match for A-Force and was stopped in the second round from a hard accurate left hand. In truth Belshaw looked really overmatched.
