WBC Heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (38-2, 37 KOs) dominated former undefeated contender Cristobal Arreola (27-1, 24 KOs) via tenth round TKO on Saturday night at the STAPLES Arena in Los Angeles.
The fight was quite a one sided affair with Vitali keeping Arreola at bay with his long jab while the challenger waded in aggressively. Vitali got better with every round until the fight became increasingly more one sided until referee Jon Schorle finally stopped the punishment at the end of round ten.
Heavyweight Johnathon Banks (22-1, 15 KO’s) won an eight round majority decision over Javier Mora. Scores from the judges were one bout even at 76-76, while the other two judges had the bout scored 79-73 and 78-74.
Unbeaten lightweight John Molina (18-0, 14 KOs) kept his record in tact with a brilliant one round annihilation of Efren Hinojosa (30-7-1, 17 KOs)
Featherweight Salvador Sanchez stopped Trinidad Mendoza in the third round of a scheduled six round bout. a well placed left hook to the body was enough for Mendoza to go to the canvas and stay there for the full count.
Featherweight Rico Ramos scored a six round unanimous decision over former world champion Kermin Guardia (37-10, 20 KOs). All judges had Ramos winning 60-54, 60-54, and 59-55.
Heavyweight Cedric Boswell (31-1, 24 KOs) won a eight round unanimous decision over Cisse Salif (23-15, 21 KOs). All three judges scored the bout 80-72 in favor of Boswell.

JONES JR V HOPKINS REMATCH TO HAPPEN IN 2010!!!
Saturday, September 26, 2009
A contract was signed yesterday which will see the rematch of two greats going head to head as Roy Jones Jr will meet Bernard Hopkins in 2010. John Wirt, CEO of Square Ring told reporters yesterday “It’s been sixteen long years and they are fighting again, Unbelievable! This is a fight that Roy has wanted for a long time and I know that Bernard wants his revenge!”
The first fight happened way back in May 22nd, 1993 which witnessed Jones and Hopkins go head to head for the vacant IBF middleweight title, Jones took all the judges scores on the night by a landslide 116-112
The rematch had been talked about for many years but never happened due to Hopkins wanting the majority of the purse. Both fighters have now came to an agreement in a unusual split which will see each fighter receiving a 50-50 split but with the stipulation that if a knockout happens, the winner of the contest will receive a 60 percent share with the loser collecting 40 percent.
Wirt outlined that Jones-Hopkins II will take place in January or February 2010. The event will be co-promoted with Golden Boy Promotions as pay-per-view event and the site is to be determined. Of course, Jones needs to win his December 2nd showdown against Aussie Danny Green. |

Dunne started the better and probably edged the scores after two rounds but Poonsawat was able to make his power pay in the third and floored the local hero three times before the bout was waved off by referee Jean-Louis Legland. Time was 2:57.
Unbeaten heavyweight Tyson Fury (9-0, 7 KOs) was back in the ring after just a two week break against Tomas Mrazek (4-23-5, 3 KOs) and took a rather one sided decision from the judges. Fury was able to drop Mrazek in the sixth but didn’t get the early finish. Score was 60-57.

The fight started quickly with both fighters looking to score quick combinations, however MacKlin threw probably the best hook of his professional career and the fight was virtually over as Asikainen hit the canvas hard. The Finnish fighter incredible made it to his feet but it was only a matter of time before he was down again from a crushing right hand. PASCAL CONFIDENT OF TITLE DEFENCE!!!
Thursday, September 24, 2009
|
Jean Pascal says he's left nothing to chance as he prepares for the first defence of his WBC light-heavyweight title.
The Canadian won the title against Romania's Adrian Diaconu with a unanimous decision back in June.
And on Friday night he steps into the ring to defend it for the first time against 43-year-old Italian Silvio Branco.
"I did everything that needed to be done to keep the belt around my waist on Friday night," Pascal said. "I cut no corners, and training camp was excellent. I will be very surprised if my opponent stays standing for the full 12 rounds."
Since then he's stepped up to light-heavy to claim a world title, and is excited he'll be defending it in front of his home fans in Montreal.
"I will win the fight and if you're hungry that's good because I am going to cook some Italian pasta with a lot of blood sauce, I am sorry Mr Branco, but they're Canadians now and they will be supporting me."
Pascal says he's Branco a "dirty" fighter without ethics who hits opponents during breaks in the action.
"He's a tricky fighter," Pascal said. "I just know I have to protect myself at all times. He'll even punch you if you are down on one knee."

ROACH: MAYWEATHER NEEDS US, WE DONT NEED HIM
Thursday, September 24, 2009
|
Manny Pacquiao (49-3-2, 37 knockouts) is gearing up for the biggest fight of his career so far when he squares off against Miguel Cotto (34-1, 27 KOs) on Nov. 14 at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, but this hasnt stopped fight writers, promoters and fight fans talking about a future match up with Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr.
Pacquiao's trainer Freddy Roach found some time out from training camp yesterday to give his opinions on a future match up between his fighter and Floyd Mayweather Jr
Roach told reporters yesterday he believes the most difficult aspect of dealing with Mayweather is not inside the ring but on the negotiating table.
“It’s what the world wants to see. But the thing is, can you get him sign the contract? I don’t know. It’s going to be difficult because he thinks he’s going to get all the money,” said Roach. “If he thinks he’s going to get equal money with us, he’s crazy. He needs us, we don’t need him.”
Roach then went on to say “Let’s face it, the guy that puts asses on the seats is Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather doesn’t draw. Against Marquez the venue was 80% Mexican,” said Roach. |
KLITSCHKO - ARREOLA FINAL PRESSER!!!
Wednesday, September 23, 2009
There is four days to go between the much anticipated WBC heavyweight title fight between champion Vitali Klitschko and mandatory challenger Cristobal Arreola, both fighters and their camps were on hand for the final press conference at Nokia Plaza L.A. Live in Los Angeles. Klitschko-Arreola takes place this Saturday night, Sept. 26, at Staples Center in LA, to be seen on HBO.
VITALI KLITSCHKO
“Saturday will be a real good fight. If you have good opponents, you look good. This will be a real heavyweight fight. I am more than sure that I will exit the ring as heavyweight champion of the world. I know it’s very important to focus on the fight and be 100 percent ready.
“Some people ask if I’m overlooking Arreola and thinking about the future. Chris, I think about you, I prepare for the fight and I will give it my best. I take it step by step. I don’t think about the future because there is no future without a victory Saturday night.
“I have never fought anyone with such a good record as Arreola. I know he’s a good fighter and I prepared for the hardest fight of my career. Can Arreola beat me? I don’t think so. Can he hit me hard? Maybe.
“It’s very interesting for me because this time I have no injuries and am 100 percent. Ten years ago I won my first world title belt. Right now, I have 10 years experience as a world champ. Right now, that will make all the difference. He may punch hard, but I’ll duck. He won’t knock me out.
“I am ready and I can’t wait until Saturday night.’’
BERND BOENTE, MANAGING DIRECTOR, KLITSCKO MANAGEMENT GROUP:
“I think it’s a fantastic fight and STAPLES (Center) is the right place to do it. It’s a very, very tough, young gun over here with Chris Arreola. He’s unbeaten, and he wants to prove that he can also be the best in the division. On the other hand, we have a very, very experienced three-time heavyweight champion with the best knockout percentage in the heavyweight division ever. I think it’s a great, great matchup and this is exactly what the heavyweight division needs.
“I’m looking forward to a great fight. The media interest is gigantic. We have, I think, 380 media requests from journalists who want to come to this fight. We have 113 countries who are broadcasting it, including the biggest Chinese TV station and the biggest Russian TV station. So, it’s gigantic. I’m sure it’ll be a great fight and a great win by Vitali Klitschko.”
FRITZ SDUNEK (KLITSCHKO TRAINER):
“We’re happy to be back in L.A. We had a great training camp and we went swimming at UCLA. We’re really looking forward to Saturday night. Vitali is in great shape and didn’t have any injuries while training. We’ll probably see a knockout on Saturday night.”
TOM LOEFFLER, DIRECTING MANAGER, K2 PROMOTIONS:
“We’re really excited about Saturday’s fight card. It’s really a worldwide event. It will be broadcast in over 100 countries internationally.”
“I think Dan (Goossen) will agree, and I think the fighters have already said in a number of interviews: This fight’s not going 12 rounds. It’s not going to be a boxing show. It’s going to be a knockout spectacle. Vitali, with his knockout ratio, and Chris isn’t going to run from Vitali.
“There will be fireworks aplenty this Saturday at STAPLES Center.”
CRISTOBAL ARREOLA:
“Vitali Klitschko has never fought anyone like me; someone that’s willing to take a punch to give a punch, or someone that has a lot of heart and fights with emotions.
“There’s always strategy going into a fight. But the thing about it is you always take it as you go in the ring and always you think about training; you have to get inside the jab. You can’t let him stretch his hands out and you go balls to the wall. You take the fight to him and make it a fight he’s not used to.
“This is a fight that definitely won’t go the distance. It’s going to be a fight that everyone’s going to want to see. It is not going be one of those boring jab fests.”
“Not only (becoming the first world heavyweight champion of Mexican descent) would it be history, but it’s a legacy I can leave behind. It means everything to me!”
HENRY RAMIREZ (ARREOLA'S TRAINER)
“He’s ready to go. It’s the week of the fight; we have fight week festivities and we have a few days before we go to work, and we’re ready to go. Vitali’s a big guy and it’s kinda hard to get guys to emulate that style. But the thing about Chris that is hard to emulate is the pressure that Chris brings is unlike any other. You cannot emulate it. It is pressure that is unbelievable and he (Klitschko) has never been in with it.
“I agree this fight won’t go the distance, but unlike everybody else I feel the longer it goes the better it is for Chris.”
DAN GOOSSEN (PRESIDENT, GOOSSEN TUTOR PROMOTIONS)
“We’ve had our big fights. The key to this one is realizing there is nothing wrong with getting lost in the moment of fighting for the heavyweight championship and making history. But when everything is said and done you have to go out there and walk through the tunnel at Buckeye Stadium as a freshman QB and go out and do what you do as an athlete, and Arreola will be up to the task. When Vitali talks about experience, forget it. The point of it is, experience is great if you’re not ready to play the big game. The great ones overcome all that and just go out and play the game.
“There’s no stopping Chris Arreola, not because he’s my fighter but because he is a true fighter that’s got the will and determination, the guts, the goals, the ability and the willingness. I’ll show you a world champion with what I just described And there isn’t going to be anything that stops him Saturday night. That is my belief. Arreola will knock him out.”
IVAN GOLDMAN (RING MAGAZINE REPRESENTATIVE, WHO PRESENTED THE BELT TO WLADIMIR:
“When you have a good fight, a good fighter will win and a good fighter will lose. Vitali Klitschko had the Ring Magazine belt before he retired and now this is just the second set of brothers to hold the Ring belt. Wladimir makes it look easy, and he made it look easy against (Ruslan) Chagaev. But, we know it’s not easy. He’s a gentleman and a proud fighter, and it’s my pleasure to award this belt to Wladimir. It’s a difficult belt to win and it’s my pleasure to give it to a great champ.”
WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO:
“It’s going to be a great fight on Saturday night. I wish both my brother and Chris good luck in the fight. Thank you for the belt. For five years I have been hunting for this belt, and now I have it. It is an honor to have it.”
TONY WALKER (HBO)
“We’re all looking forward to Saturday’s show being what a heavyweight fight should be – lots of action and two big guys going at it to show who the best is. Vitali and Chris have never disappointed in their action in the ring, and I know we’re going to see just a great show Saturday night.”
SALVADOR SANCHEZ II:
"It is a pleasure to have my first fight in Los Angeles. It is an honor to be fighting on this card and I want to demonstrate to the fans my skills. Not only do I have the name of a champion, I have the skills to be a champion."
JAVIER MORA:
"I’m happy to be on this card and I’ll be looking to do what I do best on Saturday."
JONATHAN BANKS:
"I’ll be looking forward to stepping in to the ring Saturday night."
JORGE GAMBOA (VIVA MEXICO)
“Viva Mexico and it’s time to go! We’ll be cheering you (Cristobal) on Saturday night and expect you to bring the title back to Mexico.”
Tickets are on sale at all TicketMaster outlets, by phone at 800-745-3000 and online at www.ticketmaster.com. Tickets will be available at the STAPLES Center Box Office. Tickets are priced at $500, $300, $200, $100, $75, $50 and $25.

VALUEV - HAYE PRESSER!!!
Wednesday, September 23, 2009
WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev and David Haye today came face-to-face for the first time yesterday ahead of their title clash in Nuremberg on November 7.
“I believe I can knock him out,” Haye told a packed press conference at the Arena Nurnberger Versicherung. “I will take the title home with me.” Haye admitted that the preparation for the biggest fight of his life will be a difficult one. “It is hard to find sparring partners that are as tall as him,” he said. “But we will find some. This will be a true David-versus-Goliath battle. I am much faster than him and I will win.”
The Russian Giant though had different ideas. “Even though I have not fought for quite a while, I did not sit back and relax,” he stated. “I only had to take this long break because Ruslan Chagaev could not fight me. I have started my preparations for the fight at the end of June. In the past weeks I have been preparing specially for David Haye. He is a strong challenger but he will not beat me. I will go back to Russia for a couple of days before returning to Berlin for sparring. Haye will try to edge me with his speed but I am prepared for that. He will not get my belt.”

HATTON HINTS AT A COMEBACK!!!
Tuesday, September 22, 2009
Former World champion Ricky Hatton told various reporters yesterday that a return to the ring could be on the cards but only when the 'the fire returns to his belly'.
The hitman was last seen in the ring in May where he was brutally knocked out in two rounds by Manny Pacquiao. Many thought after that loss, Hatton would retire but that doesnt seem to be the case as he told reporters yesterday of his possible future plans.
Hatton said: "I'm busy at the minute with my promoting and I'm here, there and everywhere doing different things. I'm just basically having a rest. To do this game with the training, fighting and dieting, it really is hard work and you've really got to have that fire in the belly to do it. I don't really have that at the moment. But I think after a good rest and a good recharge of the batteries I might start getting itchy feet — and I'm sure I'll probably give it another go. At the minute I'm just going to sit back and have a rest."
Hatton went on to say that he alone will make any future decisions regarding his boxing career adding: "My family said to do whatever makes me happy. They know there were reasons for the Pacquiao defeat. I know I've got a lot of miles on the clock but people like Arturo Gatti were knocked out terribly and came back, Roberto Duran was destroyed by Tommy Hearns and came back, it's happened throughout boxing. There's no doubt I can come back from it but I've just got to wait for that fire in my belly to come back. I'm in the gym training, ticking over, but as far as the fighting goes I'm just going to wait and see. If I'm going to come back after such a heartbreaking defeat, I want to come back determined and with the bit between my teeth. At the moment I don't have that bit between my teeth but I love the game and once I've missed it for a certain amount of time I'm sure I'll probably come back."

MAYWEATHER ON THE MONEY TO BEAT MARQUEZ!!!
Sunday, September 20, 2009
Floyd "Money" Mayweather re-entered the ring last night after a 21 month layoff and showed the world why he will go down into the history books as one of the best ever taking a one sided twelve round unanimous decision over Juan Manuel Marquez (50-5-1, 37 KOs) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather made his size and speed count from the outset and made Marquez pay in Round two dropping the Mexican to the canvas with a left hook. The brave and courageous Marquez made it to his feet and tried to use pressure against Mayweather but Floyd always had a answer to the smaller fighter and took scores from the judges of 118-109, 120-107, 119-108.
PRE FIGHT COMMENTS:
"I'm never going to win," Mayweather, 32, told a post-fight news conference after dominating his first bout since coming out of a 21-month retirement "When am I going to get my just due and people just acknowledge that Floyd Mayweather is a great fighter? "To be the best, you got to beat the best in your era," said Mayweather "It's not about weight classes. I came from a small weight class too."
Marquez, 50-5-1 (37 KOs) told the on looking press conference: "I tried my best but the weight was a big problem. I think there was a 20-pound difference in weight, The weight was an advantage but Floyd's a great fighter. He's very fast and a very good counter puncher. I came to fight 12 hard rounds and a lot of people thought I was going to get knocked out. But I wasn't and I hope I made Mexico proud."
Mayweather, who improved his career record to 40-0 with 25 knockouts, paid tribute to the gutsy display by the Mexican.
"Marquez is tough as hell," he said. "I hit him with a couple of shots and I thought: 'I know he's going to go from this one', but he kept coming."
Immediately after the fight ended, Mayweather was challenged by fellow American and WBC welterweight champion Shane Mosley.
"I'm hoping that the best will fight the best," said Mosley. "That's what the sport of boxing needs. "I'm the No 1 welterweight champion out there right now and I'm the type that's willing to fight anybody. I want to clean up the division so everyone will know I'm the best fighter."
Mayweather refused to be drawn into any speculation about his next opponent.
"Tonight's not Shane Mosley's night," he said. "No disrespect to Mosley, but he's supposed to be in training camp, not worrying about me. All roads lead to Floyd Mayweather. Everybody wants to fight me. I can't fight everybody."
UNDERCARD:
WBA featherweight champion Chris John (43-0-1, 22 KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over Rocky Juarez (28-5-1, 20 KOs). John easily outworked Juarez over the first eleven rounds, but was rocked by Juarez in the twelfth but ultimately held on to take scores from the judges of 114-113, 119-109, 117-111.
Michael Katsidis (26-2, 21 KOs) took the vacant WBO interim lightweight title as he pressured Vicente Escobedo (21-2, 13 KOs) for twelve rounds to claim 115-113, 118-110 win on two cards. Escobedo was ahead 116-112 on the third card.
Featherweight Cornelius Lock (19-4-1, 12 KOs) kayoed Orlando Cruz (16-1-1, 7 KOs) in round five.

SATURDAY NIGHTS RESULTS!!!
Sebastian Sylvester (32-3, 15 KOs), took the IBF middleweight title with a hard-fought split decision over Giovanni Lorenzo (27-2, 19 KOs) on Saturday night at the Jahnsportforum in Neubrandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Lorenzo was dangerous early on and found Sylvester with some hard shots in round two but that only served to wake up the German fighter who from that point on was able to fight a more tactical fight to take the judges scorecards of 116-112, 115-113 on two cards. Lorenzo was up 116-111 on the third card.
Francesco Pianeta (19-0-1, 12 KOs) retained his EBU-EU heavyweight title for the third time with a stoppage win over 42-year old Brit Matt Skelton (22-4, 19 KOs). The fight was stopped in the eighth when the bout was surprisingly stopped by Skelton’s corner citing an injured right hand.
Cruiserweight Alexander Frenkel (20-0, 16 KOs) scored his second stoppage win in a week as he stopped the Hungarian Jozsef Nagy (21-5, 14 KOs) in round two. GOLDENBOY SIGNS GOLDENBOY!!!
Saturday, September 19, 2009
Goldenboy promotions have today made a great signing in a fighter termed a “very special fighter” The Undefeated Jorge Linares the lightweight king and holder of the WBA title.
Linares will defend his title on October 10th in Japan against another unbeaten fighter in Juan Carlos Salgado. After that defense in Japan, Linares will come defend his title in the United States under his new promotion in the United States.
De La Hoya said that he had trademarked his famous English moniker “the Golden Boy” – but failed to do so for the name in Spanish. Linares smartly took the Spanish name of his idol – El Nino De Oro.
De La Hoya said that Linares was working feverishly on his English and will become a major star and add to his legacy by capturing more titles in the future. “He will fight the best fighters available,” he promised.
“I can’t wait to be in Las Vegas defending my title,” Linares said. “I am so honored to be standing next to my childhood idol Oscar De La Hoya. I will always be prepared and can’t wait to fight in the United States" |
FLOYD: IT'S NOT ABOUT THE MONEY
Friday, September 18, 2009
Floyd Mayweather insists he has a few more guys to beat to prove he is the best boxer ever - starting with Juan Manuel Marquez this weekend. The American returns to the ring in Las Vegas on Saturday night after deciding to come out of retirement, a move he maintains was not made just for financial reasons.
"It's not about the money," he told Sky Sports News. "Though he doesn't want to make an extra 200, 300 million. I don't want to just go down in the Hall of Fame with some saying I was one of the best, I want everyone to say 'Floyd was the best'.
"There are a few more guys I have to beat in my era for people to say that Floyd Mayweather was the best. There's no doubt that they are going to say that when I've beaten the guys I've got to beat."
Marquez, though, is certainly no easy comeback after 21 months out of action. The Mexican has twice taken Manny Pacquiao the distance and knocked out Juan Diaz last time out. He has never fought above lightweight, though. Mayweather, a former WBC and IBF champion at welterweight, is adamant that his weight advantage will not be the deciding factor in the outcome.
"It's not really an advantage," Mayweather insisted over the fact he's used to fighting at 147lbs. "It's all about the skills - skills pay the bills. Roberto Duran was able to go from lightweight to welterweight to beat Sugar Ray Leonard. A lot of people counted him out, so we cannot just count this guy out."
Mayweather also revealed he is planning a return to Britain in the near future after previously holding a hugely popular training session in London.
"The UK fans are truly adorable fans - great fans," he added. "They know boxing and support it 100 percent. I can't wait until after this fight is over so I can come back over there and train some more over there. I'm looking for a house over there. The support from the UK fans has been truly amazing."

JONES JR V GREEN SET FOR SYDNEY!!!
Thursday, September 17, 2009
It was announced yesterday at the Foxtel Television headquarters in Sydney, Australia that seven time world champion Roy Jones Jr (54-5,40 KO’s) will leave America for the time time in his professional career to challenge IBO Cruiserweight champion Danny Green (27-3, 24 KO’s) on December 2nd at the Sydney Superdome.
The contract for the fight was signed by both parties live at the press conference.
Roy Jones Jr joined the press conference from his home of Pensacola, Florida via telecast and gave his reasons for coming to Australia. The 40 year old stated, “I am not here to listen to Danny Green’s story – I am here to tell him I will tear his dream apart. No one has ever won every world title from middleweight to heavyweight. I love making boxing history and I want to be remembered in the sport as one of the best ever fighters. If I win the world cruiserweight title I will have completed a unique boxing achievement that no other fighter has done in the history of the sport- I want to be that fighter who has won the middleweight, super-middleweight, light-heavyweight, cruiserweight and heavyweight titles. I will be coming to entertain the people of Australia but my motivation is to win the IBO Cruiserweight title and make my statement to boxing history. I will be the only living boxer to achieve this and that makes me proud, excited and motivated.”
Jones continued, ‘They don’t give boxers world championship belts for nothing and he has won three world titles and he is a great ambassador for his country of Australia. He has a lot of heart and it will be a good fight for all the fans.”
Danny Green told the press conference, “Watching Roy against Jeff Lacy was impressive and he is one of the greatest fighters in boxing history but I am no Jeff Lacy. He is trying to knock me out in front of my friends and family in my home country of Australia and that is personal and I will be aiming to knock him out. I am a different ball game to Jeff Lacy and I will be putting the metal to the pedal and making sure I am remembered as one of the best fighters in Australian boxing history. You are going to have to kill me to beat me- I have so much mongrel in me. I am excited, emotional and this victory will be the pinnacle of my career.”
Roy Jones countered, “I am not stupid – I know Danny Green is not Jeff Lacy and it is a different fight. I am not comparing and I have been in this sport for many years and I know it will be a different fight, different opponent and Danny has different skills that I have seen and I am aware of but I am excited about this challenge. It is the challenge and chance to beat Danny Green in his backyard for this title that motivates me more than ever. If there is one country I am confident of getting a fair crack of the whip then it is Australia.”
Green added further, “My mission in this fight is to seek and destroy. Under my trainer Angelo Hyder my boxing ability has improved but my plan is to wear down Roy Jones and take his heart. I am boxing in my home country and this will motivate me like I have never been motivated before.”
When questioned about what weight Roy Jones Jr would come to the fight he added, “I know from the problems I had going up to heavyweight that I am likely to come in light for this bout at cruiserweight. I know that I bring speed to this fight and I don’t plan to concede in this area.”
The press conference was headed by New South Wales Government Premier, Nathan Rees who opened the conference and stated, “This event is a great advert for our great city of Sydney and the government of New South Wales are proud to be involved in one of the biggest fights ever in Australia in one of the biggest weeks of sport for our great city.”
The fight will be shown on a PPV basis in Australia on Main Events and Roy Jones will come to Australia in the next two weeks for a press tour to promote the event.
Tickets will go on sale via Ticketek on Wednesday 30th September in Australia.

MAYWEATHER V MARQUEZ FINAL PRESSER!!!
Thursday, September 17, 2009
The final press conference took place yesterday at the MGM’s Hollywood Theatre, in Las Vegas, for the Massive showdown which will see Floyd "Money" Mayweather go head to head with Juan Manuel Marquez. Here are some of the quotes:
Juan Manuel Marquez:
“I don’t like talking outside the ring, everybody knows,” said Marquez. “But I prepared myself very hard for this fight, physically and mentally.”
Floyd Mayweather Jr:
“To go down as a legend, you have to face the best in your era,” said Mayweather. “In this particular time, Marquez is one of the best fighters in my era, so we happen to meet. He’s a hell of a fighter. A counter-puncher, a good boxer . . . but I’ve been around the sport and faced so many different styles, I’ll adjust and adapt once I get to the squared circle Saturday night.”
Roger Mayweather (Floyd's Trainer / Uncle):
Though passing up the chance at the podium, later on, the trainer went off while Leonard Ellerbe, president of Mayweather Promotions, was at the mic talking about great trainers in boxing.
“Great? You’re talking about me,” interrupted Roger, who went on to rip every trainer in the world. I ain’t worried about the dude behind me,” Roger motioned to the image of Marquez on the backdrop. I ain’t worried about the dude behind me because I know he don’t know shit anyway.”
The slams did little to faze Beristain, but acting on behalf of Team Marquez, promoter Oscar De La Hoya took his best shot.
“Now Roger, I’m a little confused now,” began De La Hoya. “I thought the best trainer in the world was Floyd, Sr.”
Oscar De La Hoya (Goldenboy Promotions):
“It will be a special night because the whole world will witness an upset,” said De La Hoya. “People are wondering why I’m taking pictures. I’m taking pictures because I want to capture the moment when Juan Manuel Marquez dethrones the king.
“I couldn’t do it, but I’ll tell you one thing: Marquez is ready.

MAYWEATHER "THERE IS ONLY ONE SUPERSTAR"
Wednesday, September 16, 2009
|
Floyd Mayweather Jr has fuelled his rivalry with Manny Pacquiao by insisting he is boxing's "only mega-superstar".
Unbeaten American Mayweather called it quits after knocking out Britain's Ricky Hatton in December 2007, a feat Pacquiao has since gone on to match.
In Mayweather's absence, the 'Pac Man' was proclaimed as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world after that bout.
"After I had time to rest and enjoy life with my family and friends, I started to miss the competition and my fans," Mayweather said "I don't worry about no fighter. Fighters have to worry about me. I can adjust and I can adapt. People seem to forget, I fought Ricky Hatton when he was undefeated and I laid down the blueprint for how to beat him. And again, when you look at the tape of when Hatton fought Manny Pacquiao, when Pacquiao hit him he wasn't even looking when he threw the punch. He threw a Hail Mary punch.
"I'm not saying Pacquiao's not a good fighter. I'm not saying that I'm the only star in boxing. There are other stars in boxing. But there's only one mega-superstar." |
BOXING WORLD IN SHOCK OVER SUTHERLAND DEATH!!!
Tuesday, September 15, 2009
The Irish boxing world is in shock this morning following the death of Olympic medal winner Darren Sutherland.
The 27-year-old Dubliner, who won bronze for Ireland at the Beijing Games last year, was found hanged in his flat in Bromley, south London, yesterday by boxing promoter Frank Maloney.
In a statement the boxing promoter said: “It is very sad and unexpected. At this sad time my thoughts are with Darren’s family and I hope their privacy at this very difficult time will be respected by the media. It is a tragedy for Ireland and the world of boxing.”
The police say the death is not being treated as suspicious.
Britain’s Olympic middleweight champion James DeGale, who beat Sutherland in Beijing, spoke tonight of his shock at the Irishman’s death.
“It is very, very sad news – I just can’t believe it,” he said. “It is a tragedy. First and foremost, my heart goes out to his family. I just could not believe it; my heart went to the floor when I heard. He was a big part of my Olympic medal journey, and it is just terrible. I just do not know what to say except that he was a brilliant fighter, in fact an excellent fighter, and he was a gentleman outside the ring as well.
“He had an Olympic bronze medal, and his whole life to look forward to. He had a great future, and my heart goes out to everyone who knew him.” |
PACQUIAO REGARDS COTTO "TOUGHEST TEST"
Tuesday, September 15, 2009
Manny Pacquiao, widely viewed as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, is primed for his biggest test when he challenges Miguel Cotto for the WBO welterweight title in November.
Although Filipino Pacquiao holds a significant speed advantage over the Puerto Rican, he has great respect for Cotto's punching power, strength and intelligence.
"This will be my toughest test as a professional boxer," Pacquiao, 30, told a news conference at a Beverly Hills hotel "I know he is an excellent, smart fighter and a great world champion. We also know that he is good in body punching and that he's strong so we have to study that, how to counter it and fight that in the ring.
"We also need to use our own advantage over Cotto," added the southpaw, who cemented his status as the sport's premier fighter with a stunning second round knockout of Britain's Ricky Hatton in May to claim the IBO light welterweight crown.
"Everybody knows that I am faster than Cotto so how can I use that speed in the fight? I will do my best in this fight to capture my seventh title belt."
Pacquiao has a glittering career record of 49-3-2 featuring 37 knockouts, but his trainer Freddie Roach predicted the November 14 bout in Las Vegas would go the full distance.
"It's going to be a much more tactical fight than people think because he (Cotto) is a very smart fighter," Roach said. "It's who can implement their game plan and use it to the fullest advantage. I think this is going to be a 12-round fight, no knockout. This guy (Cotto) is very resilient. If a knockout comes, it comes but if you go out there looking for a knockout, you might get caught yourself. We have to be very tactical."
Cotto, who retained his WBO title with a gruelling split decision win over Ghana's Joshua Clottey in June, felt his own renowned defence would more than match Pacquiao's speed.
"When you have good defence, you can stop speed," said the 28-year-old, 34-1 with 27 KOs. I don't know if he (Pacquiao) is ready to be beaten but I am in my prime of my career. I'm going to use every kind of tool I have in my repertoire. He has fought a lot of tough fighters but never one like this," added Cotto, who has held a world title in every year since 2004.
"The world will know who the best is when we meet in the ring in November."

SATURDAY NIGHTS RESULTS!!!
WBO light flyweight champion Ivan “Iron Boy” Calderon (33-0-1, 6 KOs) was again given a war against Rodel “Kid Rapido” Mayol (25-4-1, 19 KOs) but again managed to keep hold of his title via split technical decision on Saturday night at the Coliseo Jose Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
In another close fight Mayol again tried to pressure Calderon and make him fight for every second of every round but Calderon used his effective jab and countered Mayol which mirrored the first fight and the finish was no different with the bout being halted after round seven when once again a clash of heads prematurely ended the bout. Two judges had it for Calderon 68-65 and while the other had it for Mayol 68-65.
After the fight Calderon told reporters at ringside “I want people to understand that Mayol is a much different fighter that Hugo Cazares. He is very intelligent with his game plan. He made me work extremely hard to earn this victory. I have a lot of respect for him,” said Calderon.
WBO super featherweight champion Ramon ‘Rocky’ Martinez (22-0-1, 13 KOs) looked great against Feider Viloria (22-4-1, 15 KOs) of Colombia and scored a ninth round KO in the first defence of his title. Martinez looked sharper and seemed to have tightened up his defense. Martinez finished the fight in the ninth round after a barrage of punches left Viloria on the canvas unable to beat the count. “I practiced hard on my defense for this fight and I believe it showed. He didn’t want to engage me too much but in the end I was able to break him down,” stated Martinez
Jr middleweight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (40-0-1, 30 KOs) destroyed Jason LeHoullier (22-2-1, 8 KOs) in less than a round on Saturday night at the El Palenque Del Recinto Ferial, Tepic, Mexico. Chavez dropped LeHoullier with a left hook and got the stoppage with his follow up barrage.
WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel (39-2-2, 29 KOs) and Alex Valdez (22-2-3, 15 KOs) has now been declared a technical draw. In a bout that saw both men hit the canvas a cut over the left eye left Montiel unable to continue before the beginning of the fourth round.
WBO champion Donnie Nietes, (24-1-3, 14 KOs) won a controversial twelve round split decision over interim champion Manuel Vargas (26-3-1, 11 KOs). scores were 116-112 for Vargas and Nietes took the other two by 118-110, 116-110.
Andre Ward (20-0, 13 KOs) scored a third round KO over Shelby Pudwill (22-4-1, 9 KOs) on Saturday night at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California.
WBA interim bantamweight champion Nehomar Cermeño (18-0, 10 KOs) defeated former unified super flyweight champion Cristian Mijares (36-6-2, 15 KOs) by twelve round unanimous decision to retain his WBA belt on Saturday night at the Arena Monterrey in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Scores were 117-111, 116-112 and 116-112.
WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (42-1, 32 KOs) scored a fourth-round TKO over Gusmyr Perdomo (16-3, 10 KOs) on Saturday night at the MCH Messecenter Herning in Herning, Denmark. A very efficient Kessler was able to attack Perdomo and land at will. In the third the Dane finally began to punch and Perdomo definitely felt his strength. the end came in the fourth round when Kessler landed another left-right, and Perdomo was left pinned to the ropes. The champion went in for the stoppage but never tagged his foe cleanly, except for the last right hand. However, the referee stepped in at 0:56 of the round to halt the contest
Cruiserweight Alexander Frenkel (19-0, 15 KOs) scored a one punch knockout over Laszlo Hubert (22-5, 13 KOs) in round three.
FRIDAY NIGHTS RESULTS!!!
In a very controversial result many in attendance thought the underdog John McDermott (25-6, 16 KOs) had done enough throughout the bout to be awarded the victory but it was taken away from him via the referee Terry O’Connor who instead raised Tyson Fury (8-0, 7 KOs) hand by a head scratching 98-92 at Brentwood Centre in Brentwood, UK.
Jim Watt and heavyweight top contender David Haye – all had it 94-96 for now dethroned champion John McDermott.
WBC #7 flyweight Wilbert Uicab (25-5-1, 16 KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over Alejandro Hernandez (22-6-1, 11 KOs) on Friday night at the Humberto “Chiquita” Gonzalez Marbet Plus Hall in Ciudad Neza, Mexico. scores were 115-113, 116-112, 116-113.

ROACH: "FOOT SPEED IS GOING TO BE THE KEY"
Friday, September 11, 2009
|
Future Hall of Fame trainer Freddy Roach yesterday outlined his plans on how he intends to deal with Miguel Cotto, in a showdown which will pit his fighter and pound 4 pound king Manny Pacquiao against the Puerto Rican warrior on the 14th Novemeber at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Manny Pacquiao told reporters yesterday "I can see that this fight is going to be a hard fight for me because Miguel Cotto is bigger than me and stronger than me, But of course I believe in my power and my speed."
Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach has studied the 28-year-old Puerto Rican closely over recent months and is sure his charge can come through.
"He [Cotto] knows that hand speed because he dealt with that when he fought Shane Mosley as well, but he has a little difficulty with the southpaw style," Roach said.
"But it's really not our hand speed that's going to win this fight, it's the foot speed. That's the key to this fight.
"After we exchange we can't stay in front of this guy and let him throw back at us." |
SALITA: "DONT LABEL KHAN FIGHT JEW V MUSLIM"
Friday, September 11, 2009
Dmitiry Salita has called on the UK Jewish community to come out in force to support him when he faces Amir Khan for the WBA light welterweight title
"English fans have shown me a lot of support when my fights have been shown on TV, so I'm expecting a good turn-out. This fight can't come soon enough and I'll start intensive training at the end of this month. I know quite a lot about Khan. He was a good amateur and a very good technician for his age, so I expect a good fight. He has good hand-speed and movement, but there are holes in his defence and offence and I'm very confident of winning. I have never lost, while he was beaten quite recently, but let the best man win."
Salita, who goes by the nickname 'The Star of David' and refuses to fight on Shabbat, admits there is concern that the media will bill the fight as Jew against Muslim.
"I hope that's not how the media will portray it, From what I have heard, he is a very good role model in the UK and does a lot of charity work. I am going after him because he is the title-holder, regardless of his religion."

ARREOLA GUARANTEES VICTORY!!!
Thursday, September 10, 2009
Yesterday during a media workout at Joe Goossen's gym the hard hitting Cristobal Arreola (27-0, 24 KOs) guaranteed he would defeat defending champion Vitali Klitschko (37-2, 36 KOs) in their WBC heavyweight championship fight on Saturday, Sept. 26, at STAPLES Center.
“I guarantee that it’s going to be an exciting fight and I guarantee that I’m going to come out with the world title and I’ll work my (expletive) off,” Arreola said.
Here are some of the quotes from both Areola and Goossen:
CRISTOBAL ARREOLA:
“I’m gonna win this fight, I’m gonna do it. The only thing I can do is go in there and put on a great fight for the fans in Los Angeles.
“Am I in the best shape of my life? Come Sept. 26, I will be. We still have two-and-a-half more weeks left of training and I’ll be there. There’s still a little bit more work to do. Come fight time, I’ll be ready to go 12 rounds.
“I’ve worked my butt off to get here and I’ve always seen this day coming. The good thing about it is I’ve been working my way up slowly but surely.
REGARDING THE FIGHT:
“To be honest with you, for me, it’s just another fight. I don’t try to get caught up in the hype or everything like that. It’s just another fight. It’s a tough fight, that’s what it is. It’s just another tough fight even though we all know it’s bigger than just another fight.
“I don’t want to get caught up with all this business about making history. Of course it’s history. It’s already known that it’s history. It’s already known that’s its going to be a big atmosphere in the STAPLES Center, why get caught up in it?
“Right now, I’m just staying home. Whenever people do see me, they congratulate me and wish me the best of luck. But I’m trying to stay focused and stay away from all that.
ON WHETHER HE WILL CONTINUE TO LIVE IN RIVERSIDE WITH A VICTORY:
“I’ll stay in Riverside. But, I’ll probably get a bigger house. That’s about it. I love being in Riverside. Not to take away from LA, but I’m just so used to being around there. It’s a whole different atmosphere from here. People are more relaxed.
ON WORKING OUT IN JOE GOOSSEN'S GYM:
“This gym is a gym. That’s exactly what it is. What you see is what you get. I don’t need fancy stuff, I have everything I need right here. Boxing bags, ring, speed bags. That’s it. There’s no need to go to a fancy facility or anything like that. I’m a rugged dude. I’m not trying to take anything away from it, I love it. It’s a great gym, it smells like boxing.
ON UNIFYING THE TITLES:
“Of course, I plan on unifying the titles. That should be the main goal of every fighter who wants to win the title. Of course, I want to be the undisputed heavyweight champion, but first things first, let’s go get the WBC title and then we’ll go after the rest of them.
“It really doesn’t matter to me who I fight. That’s up to Dan (Goossen). To me, my main goal is to unify the titles, no matter who it is.
ON RELAXING:
“How do I relax? Play Madden. Play video games all day. I enjoy playing video games. It just relaxes me and takes my mind off of everything because you have to focus on your offense and defense.
ABOUT HIS WEIGHT:
“According to all the internet websites, I’m weighing upwards of 280 (pounds) or something like that. You know what; right now I weigh in the low 260’s. Come fight time, I’m probably going to be 200 pounds (joking).
“Everything is going really good. I’m just adapting to working out twice a day. It’s a hard thing and my body is still getting used to it.”
DAN GOOSSEN:
“Two big men are going to collide, but the real, big talk of this fight is heavyweight history. This is a reflection of where we know we’re going and where we’ve been going for the last five years, and that’s making heavyweight history.
“This (Arreola) is the man that’s going to bring excitement back to the heavyweight division.
“You know what, this is what he is, this is what he prides himself on. He wants to make his fans happy.
“All the fans that have ever seen him can’t wait to see him again and again. He brings electricity to the right, along with sleeping power for his opponent.
“We’re going to go out there and have a great fight on Sept. 26, and I know heavyweight history is going to be made by Cristobal Arreola.” |
ROGER: "I`M THE BEST THERE IS"
Thursday, September 10, 2009
Roger Mayweather, controversial as ever, says he's the best trainer in the fight game despite not having the awards to prove it.
The corner man has guided nephew Floyd Jr to P4P stardom and a perfect 39-0 record.
But both he and Floyd Jr feel he's still not getting the recognition he deserves.
Currently preparing his nephew for his return from a near two-year lay-off against Juan Manuel Marquez on September 19, he said: "I don't worry about trainer of the year. You see how good I am. I don't need any award to tell me how good I am.
"Because number one, when you see dudes get trainer of the year, you see a guy get trainer of the year and he don't even train no - he don't even train nobody. How did he get trainer of the year? He don't even train anybody.
"Angelo Dundee doesn't train Muhammad Ali. So how did he get trainer of the year? He watched Muhammad Ali train, but he doesn't train Muhammad Ali. But he get trainer of the year, don't he? Okay then. So that tell you trainer of the year doesn't mean s***. Because I'm telling you that now. I'm not worried about that. I'm the best there is, period. I don't worry about that trainer of the year s***. I don't care about that. I'm the best there is."
Floyd Jr meanwhile believes his uncle doesn't get the credit he deserves for their success inside the ropes.
"I like working with Roger because of our chemistry, our chemistry is there and there are no arguments. It's fun. And I mean he's not hounding me. He's not hounding me. He's letting me work.
"Roger's a great guy, you know. I love him and I'm just wondering that why - like I said before, I just wonder why my Uncle Roger hasn't received trainer of the year. His fighters have been dominating since '96 and he still hasn't got trainer of the year. When all the other trainers' fighters have won and lost, he's undefeated."

SEXTON V ROGAN IS NOW SET FOR NOVEMBER!!!
Wednesday, September 9, 2009
Martin Rogan's rematch against Sam Sexton has been postponed until Friday 6th November because the Irishman has a back injury, but Sexton believes it is only delaying the inevitable.
The Belfast heavyweight was due to meet Commonwealth Champion Sexton on October 6th at the Odyssey, but Rogan injured his back in a training session and requires rest and physiotherapy before resuming training again.
Sexton, 25, scored a controversial eighth round stoppage at the Odyssey in May when Rogan was unable to continue because of a badly swollen eye.
Norwich puncher Sexton says he's ready to do the same again to Rogan.
He said, "What Rogan is doing is only delaying the inevitable which is another victory for me. As the champion I have gone beyond the call of duty to accommodate Rogan to the point of going back to the challenger's back yard for him to try and get his old title back, I've also heard him make certain allegations against me that were unjust and uncalled for at the press conference which I would ask he rectify, It's common knowledge that he has had a change of camp and trainer which I can't understand. If he was so sure he won the last fight then why change what was not wrong?" He has four weeks to mend his injured back and then face me again on a level platform and we both have the chance to put right any wrongs, I am in prime condition and I need to keep active so he needs to make sure this four weeks are used wisely."
Tickets purchased for the original date of October 9th will be vaild for the new date. |
CALDERON V MAYOL II PRESSER!!!
Wednesday, September 9, 2009
This Saturday at the Coliseo Jose Miguel Agrelot in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico World champion Ivan Calderon face off against Rodel Mayol in what should be a great fight. The two fighters last met in June which witnessed the fight ending in a six-round technical draw because Calderon was unable to continue due to an accidental head butt he suffered in the fourth round.
Yesterday both fighters looked confident as they addressed the press members in attendance, below is what each fighter had to say:
Ivan Rivera (President of PR Best Boxing, promoter of Calderon and Martinez): “I’m very happy that this bout will be aired in Puerto Rico as well as all over the United States on pay-per-view. This will be an excellent opportunity for those in the U.S. to see Calderon and Martinez show that they are true world champions.”
Ivan Calderon: “I had a very good training camp and I’m in excellent condition. Even though I am already a champion I’m still very hungry to accomplish a lot more in my career. It’s going to begin on Saturday night. I may be 34 but I fight like I’m 24. I know Mayol is determined to win my title but he will be leaving Puerto Rico without it as it will stay with me.”
Rodel Mayol: “I’m very happy to be here in Puerto Rico. The fans are going to be treated to an excellent fight and a very good show. There is no doubt in my mind that I am going to win this fight and become champion.”
Rocky Martinez: “This is my first defense and I’m going to make it a spectacular and successful one. I’ve added a lot of new things to my game that I will put on display come Saturday night in a successful win.”

CLINTON WOODS RETIRES FROM BOXING!!!
Wednesday, September 9, 2009
Following defeat to Tavoris Cloud in an IBF light-heavyweight title fight in Hollywood, Florida two weeks ago, Clinton Woods has decided to call time on his 15 year career.
The 37 year-old decided to call it a day after dropping a clear 12 round points decision to Cloud and conceding the 27 year-old unbeaten American was just too ‘fresh’ for him.
In a career that spanned 15 years Woods has won British, Commonwealth, European and the IBF light-heavyweight crown, but now feels the time has come to hang up his gloves.
Speaking to his local paper, the Sheffield Star, Woods said: "Cloud was a really good fighter and he’s young, while maybe I’m too old for that level. In my hey-day I would have beaten him, but I have no excuses and I think my love affair with boxing is over. I wouldn’t have chosen to have gone out with a defeat, but I never took a beating. Yes, Cloud did hurt me in one of the rounds, but I felt at the time that the fight was closer than it actually was. When I watched it on video, I thought the first six rounds were even, but it is obvious that Cloud took it over from there. It was weird because at the time I read it completely wrong. I thought I had set the pace.
Reflecting on his long and successful career Woods told the Star: "There have been more ups than downs over 15 years. Beating Crawford Ashley for the European light-heavyweight title and winning the world title against Rico Hoye were the biggest highlights, along with beating Glen Johnson. It was good while it lasted and I am happy with what I achieved."

KHAN TURNED DOWN MATCHUP WITH PACQUIAO!!!
Tuesday, September 8, 2009
Amir Khan reportedly turned down an autumn showdown with P4P king Manny Pacquiao.
Pacquiao will face Miguel Cotto in a mouthwatering match in Las Vegas on November 14.
But before that deal was signed, Top Rank supremo Bob Arum revealed that British star Khan had been offered the chance to take on the Pacman.
He told the Daily Telegraph: "Before we had signed with Cotto Amir's name was on the table, we offered him the fight, but his father and his family felt it was too early in his career.
"Amir Khan has all the attributes of a great champion, and I think he's going to be a superstar in the sport. Okay, so he had a loss in his career, he made a mistake, but he looks great now. I can definitely see Amir and Manny meeting in the ring down the line."

lOPEZ RECALLS SONSONA'S STUNNING POWER!!!
Monday, September 7, 2009
| This Saturday saw the emergence of another filipino fighter, the 19 year old "Marvelous" Marvin Sonsona who arrived on the world stage in Canada on the weekend that witnessed him shock and take former world champion Jose Lopez's title via unanimous decision.
Sonsona showed some excellent skills throughout and produced power which suprised Lopez who had to rise from the canvas in round four as a result of it. After the fight while being interviewed by El Nuevo Dia Lopez told boxing writer Mark Vester “He (Sonsona) surprised me that he hit so hard. Especially the power of his left hand. I didn’t expect that. I’m sad and happy at the same time. Sad because I lost the title, but happy because it was a great fight and we gave a great show to the fans.”
Lopez who is a veteran of the fight game went on to tell reporters of Sonsona's power and his feelings after the fourth round knockdown “I felt that blow for the remainder of the fight. I was winning that round [fourth], but I did not see that left hand. When we began the fifth, I still had weak legs. I pressured him, I did him more than I was able to and he could not knock me out. But those two points of the fourth and the other two point round where the referee took a point from me (low blows), it affected me since it is very difficult to win a decision when you are down by four points.”
However, like a true champion Lopez didnt complain simply saying “ I do not have any excuses.” |
ASLOUM ANNOUNCES HIS RETIREMENT!!!
Monday, September 7, 2009
Former Olympic / World champion Brahim Asloum has decided to hang up his gloves and announce his retirement from boxing after a bitter dispute with the cable channel Canal Plus.
He told various reporters yesterday of his decision saying "The desire's still there but I have to quit, It's no longer possible to organize a boxing event in France."
The argument between the fighter and the cable company started when Asloum's fight with Giovanni Segura in May 2008 was cancelled by the station with little notice and things apparently have got alot worse since that time.
Fight fans may know of Asloum when he became the WBA light flyweight champion in December 2007 with an unanimous decision over defending champion Juan Carlos Reveco of Argentina.

The bout was a rematch between the two fighters and witnessed a controversial stoppage after Truscott sustained a cut under his right eye what seemed to be an accidental clash of heads.

DONAIRE RECOVERING FROM A DANGEROUS FEVER!!!
Friday, September 4, 2009
World champion Nonito Donaire is recovering from a serious bout of dengue fever that put him in the hospital with a 104-degree temperature, his manager told The Associated Press on Thursday.
Donaire, a Filipino-born fighter raised in California's Bay Area, fell ill Wednesday in the Philippines, where he has been living since defeating Rafael Concepcion for the WBA's interim 115-pound title last month in Las Vegas.
Manager Cameron Dunkin says a regimen of intravenous fluids helped to reduce the fighter's fever, which dropped to 100 degrees Thursday after climbing above 104. Donaire appears healthy enough to be released later Thursday.
Donaire's wife, Rachel, thinks the boxer likely contracted the fever from a mosquito bite. More than 50 million people per year are believed to be affected by dengue fever, found largely in the tropics.
"Some people don't react to it, some people do," Dunkin said. "Rachel told me, 'It can be dangerous, but we caught it very early and we got him in.'"
Donaire was treated at Asian Hospital in the southern part of metropolitan Manila, one of the Philippines' top hospitals.

VITALI WORKOUT QUOTES!!!
Thursday, September 3, 2009
VITALI KLITSCHKO -
“I hope everyone at STAPLES Center will enjoy the fight. I’m preparing for a real battle against Arreola. He is a very strong fighter and the No. 1 contender for the world title. He wants to take my title away, but I won’t let him do that. I feel comfortable in the gym. I’ve been training hard. I’m in good shape now, but not in my best shape. I’ll be in my best shape for the fight"
“David Haye is not a serious fighter. I doubt he had an injury when he gave up the fight against (Vitali’s younger brother and IBF/WBO heavyweight champion) Wladimir. We gave Haye the same contract as he got with Wladimir. Against me, Haye had little chance to take the title. That’s why he didn’t want to fight. He’s un-serious. I don’t think about him anymore. Right now, I focus on Arreola"
“Arreola is undefeated and rated No. 1. He’s a very strong and tough fighter. It will not be an easy fight. I want to show everyone that I will be the strongest one on Sept. 26. I know Arreola will train very well for this fight. I take him very seriously. I will be in top shape and I will give my best. You will see in my performance on Sept. 26. Arreola has a big punch and a big heart as do all Mexican fighters. Nothing about this fight will be simple, but I will win"
“Every day, I’m asked ‘where do I live?’ I love being in Los Angeles where I have my house. I also have many friends and a place in Germany and at the same time I’m a Ukrainian citizen. But I’m a sportsman and travel around the world. If you want to know where I stay the most, it is in a plane"
“For boxing fans, it’s not a question of which country you’re from, or which flag you wave. It’s about performance in the ring. That’s what the fans appreciate. Which country you’re from, which country you’re a citizen in, is not an important question"
“I doubt the fight will be won by decision. The fight will be much shorter than 12 rounds. Arreola is a good fighter. I don’t want to underestimate him. I don’t want to make mistakes. I will show him my skills. I am much stronger than Arreola. Arreola has a big heart and a big punch. But I have a big punch, too"
“I know Mexicans are huge boxing fans and they are very knowledgeable. But it’s not the color of your skin or your nationality that they root for. I have a lot of Mexican fans who support me every fight and I’m very thankful for that."
“I understand some people will be against me and it will mean very much to have a Mexican world champion. But I’ve got to tell them, ‘sorry.’ Nothing against Mexicans, nothing against any nationalities, but, we, the fighters, prove our boxing skills in the ring"
“I remember the Lennox Lewis fight where the fans cheered with a lot of energy and emotion for sports skills. In the end, they’re not rooting for the nationality or for the religion, but for the sport"
“That’s why I love boxing and looking forward to my fight against Arreola Sept. 26 in Los Angeles.’
TOM LOEFFLER
“Arreola has been challenging Vitali for a long time and says he’s always wanted to fight Vitali. Vitali has never ducked Arreola. He regained the title against Sam Peter. He made his first defense, which was a mandatory defense against Juan Carlos Gomez.
“Now Arreola is the No. 1 contender so he is the natural opponent for Vitali"
“It definitely made sense to bring Vitali and this fight back to Los Angeles. Vitali’s making history by being in the third heavyweight championship fight at STAPLES. He’s the only one to do that. Arreola will also make history if he wins"
“It’s good to come here to Los Angeles and STAPLES Center. It was something Vitali wanted to do. This fight was a natural for STAPLES; Arreola living in Riverside, Vitali having a house in Los Angeles. His children were born here in Los Angeles. It’s the only place this fight could have happened."
“This is a great matchup. Vitali has the highest knockout ratio of any active champion and Arreola is unbeaten with 24 knockouts in 27 fights. It’s really a fight fans’ dream."
“And where else can you get a ticket for a heavyweight championship fight for $25? We did that on purpose to allow the true fight fan to come out and see this caliber of fight."
“We’re expecting a full house.’’
FRITZ SDUNEK (who has trained 12 world champions and two Olympic Games gold medalists)
“Vitali has been working really hard for this fight and is getting better and stronger every day. We’re still a few weeks out, but he will be 100 percent by fight night.’’
Klitschko To Donate 100 Tickets To SoCal Firefighters
LOS ANGELES (Sept. 2, 2009) – During a well-attended Media Workout Wednesday at the Pound4Pound Gym, Vitali “Dr. Ironfist” Klitschko (37-2, 36 KOs) and K2 Promotions Managing Director, Tom Loeffler, announced that 100 tickets for Klitschko’s eagerly anticipated WBC heavyweight title defense against unbeaten, No. 1-ranked Cristobal Arreola (27-0, 24 KOs), of East Los Angeles, Saturday, Sept. 26, at STAPLES Center would be donated to Southern California firefighters.
“Vitali has a house on the hillside in Los Angeles where he can see all the fires, and he really appreciates the hard work and dedication from all the firefighters,’’ Loeffler said. “Donating 100 tickets to the Firefighters Association is Vitali’s way of thanking them for all their hard work and efforts while putting their lives on the line to keep the people of Los Angeles safe.’’
Under the watchful eye of respected, world-renown trainer Fritz Sdunek, who has been with the boxer since his pro debut in 1996, Klitschko shadow-boxed, skipped rope, hit the mitts, clubbed the heavy bag and ripped the speed bag during a spirited 40-minute workout.
On Sept. 26, Klitschko will make history by becoming the first fighter to headline three times at STAPLES Center. If triumphant, Arreola will make history by becoming the first boxer of Mexican descent to capture a world heavyweight belt.
Klitschko has been involved in the only two heavyweight world title fights to emanate from STAPLES Center. Both matches were unforgettable. The first – against then-champion Lennox Lewis June 21, 2003 – was a bloody, exhilarating slugfest that resulted in a hotly disputed win for Lewis. Klitschko finally captured the WBC belt at STAPLES Center on April 24, 2004, when
he annihilated Corrie Sanders en route to an eighth-round TKO.
Tickets, starting at $25, can be purchased at STAPLES Center, all TicketMaster outlets, by phone (800) 745-3000 and online at www.ticketmaster.com.
The 12-round heavyweight championship fight will be promoted by K2 Promotions in association with Goossen Tutor Promotions. It will air live on HBO at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

MAYWEATHER FIGHTING FOR HIS LEGACY!!!
Thursday, September 3, 2009
Floyd Mayweather Jr says the chance to extend his unbeaten record and boxing legacy is the major driving force for his eagerly-anticipated fight with Juan Manuel Marquez this month.
Mayweather will face the tough Mexican at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on September 19, as he makes his big return to the ring after a two-year retirement.
The 32-year-old says that protecting his unbeaten record and maintaining his boxing legacy are big factors for him taking the fight.
"It's very important for me," Mayweather said during a conference call. "I am just happy to say that I'm going down as a Hall of Famer and it's extremely important for me to go out there to perform well and dominate. "I've got to go out there and be smart, be intelligent and listen to my uncle Roger, If I do that, we will come out 'A' okay."
The flamboyant Mayweather insists he will not feel any extra pressure on his return, adding that he is always the one under pressure when he fights as the favourite.
"When you go out there with an undefeated record, there is no pressure on these fighters because they have nothing to lose," he added. If Marquez gets beat in 12 rounds or he gets knocked out, they are still going to love him in his country because he had the chance to face the best. They will say: 'You lost but you lost to the best. But in the US it doesn't work like that so we have to work that much harder to stay on top. If I win, it's normal. If a guy gives me a tough fight or even comes close to winning, that's abnormal. Everybody expects me to dominate."
A five-division world champion and undoubtedly one of the greatest boxers of any era, Mayweather is feeling sharp in his training and will have no ring rust after his break.
"I don't think a two-year layoff is going to affect me," he said. "I feel fast and strong and my timing is there. We are in the gym every day and we are looking very sharp. I feel the same way as I felt before I left. Actually I feel a little better. I think the break helped because I haven't had a break since '87 so my body had a chance to heal. I feel really good."
Although supremely confident as always, complacency will not be a problem for Mayweather as he rates Marquez highly.
"He is Mexico's numero uno," he said. "He's one hell of a fighter with over 50 wins and champion in more than just one weight class. Believe me, Marquez is not going to lay down.
"There's going to be blood, sweat and tears on September 19."

HATTON SET FOR WORLD TITLE FIGHT!!!
Thursday, September 3, 2009
If you had just read the headline you probably would have automatically thought Ricky was coming back for another shot I`m afraid not and instead it is his brother Matthew Hatton who has been given the opportunity to take his boxing career out of the shadow of his older brother as he is set to challenge for his first world title.
Matthew Hatton (37-4-1, 14 KOs) it was announced yesterday will take on Lovemore N’Dou (47-11-1, 31 KOs) in a bid to win the Australian’s IBO welterweight title. The bout has been scheduled for Manchester on November 13th most likely at the MEN Arena.
Matthew Hatton has been given the opportunity to take his boxing career out of the shadow of his older brother as he is set to challenge for his first world title.
A change of trainer has proved successful for Hatton, having replaced Billy Graham for Lee Beard, and he is looking sharper and more refined as he prepares himself to challenge for the South African-born N’Dou’s title.

WOODS SET FOR RETIREMENT???
Wednesday, September 2, 2009
The end of the road may be up ahead for Clinton Woods retirement as yesterday he pondered his boxing future after losing to the young American Tarvoris Cloud on Saturday night at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
Woods told various reporters yesterday "I'm not thinking about retirement at the moment. I'll go home and see what I'll do next. I have always said I'd never go back to another level other than world title but I don't want to talk about retiring.
"To be honest, the thought of retiring from the sport I love upsets me more than losing."

NAZ REVEALS THE REAL REASON WHY HE QUIT BOXING
Tuesday, September 1, 2009
Prince Naseem Hamed will probably go down in british boxing history as one of the biggest punchers of our generation so It was a massive shock when he announced his retirement and turned his back on the sport for good.
Hamed though reflected on his time in the ring and while speaking on BBC Radio Five Live's Sportsweek programme yesterday, said that nobody knew "the real truth" why he quit boxing seven years ago Naz said "I had hand trouble and could not take the power of my punch, I needed cortisone injections to take away the pain when I fought, then after every fight the gloves would be whipped off and my hands would be as big as balloons. It was getting ridiculous and you can't go on with no ammunition. I was one of the hardest punchers ever known but if the hands are quite brittle and you do damage, then it's hard to carry on."
Asked about talk over the years of a comeback he replied: "If the hands were fine, I'd love to come back. I did boxing for 21 years, from the age of 7, I love boxing, miss boxing and I believe that boxing misses me.
