An eight weight world champion, Manny is not only one of the best Pound 4 Pound fighters of our era but one of the very best period. I edged my decision in Mayweather's direction a while back but seeing Manny's annihilation of Antonio Margarito proved to me that this decision was the wrong one, which is why I have decided to move him back to my list to number one.
There is no doubting Floyd's ability within a boxing ring and his one sided annihilation of both Mosely and Marquez will show that he is one of the very best. What is in question at the moment is his heart. A super fight with Pacquiao could be just around the corner but still Floyd remains reluctant to sign on the dotted line. This fight really needs to be made for the good of our sport so fingers crossed that in 2011 we will finally have an end to the confusion, on who really is the number one fighter on the planet, but due to inactivity and the performances of Manny Floyd stays in the second spot.
Sergio Martinez' knockout over Paul Williams was sensational and was one of the knockouts of 2010. Maravilla has taken his career to a new level in recent years which has seen him beat two of the biggest names within the sport (former middleweight king Kelly Pavlik and Paul Williams). Sergio looks a force at Middleweight and is a name you will find in every P4P lists throughout our community.
Nonito's remarkable knockout victory over Fernando Montiel showed the boxing world that the small country of the Phillippines has more than just one superstar in the paid ranks. Manny obviously stands out as boxing's best in regards to pound 4 pound rankings but from recent performances will probably have one eye on his countryman who has quite simply looked phenomenal in his destruction of former world champions. Nonito is our number three, one who could possibly rule in the years to come.
Wladimir has ruled the heavyweight division for quite some time and will be seen in many of todays Pound 4 Pound lists across the web especially since his rather easy twelve round decision over former world champion David Haye. He currently stands at five in my list but may be seen a little higher on some lists, one word to describe Wlad "Dominant"
Since capturing the Gold in the Athens Olympics, expectations from the boxing community must have weighed heavy on this man's shoulders but with the help of his unweavering faith in God mixed with his extrodinary boxing skill and a little dedication, he has found the right formula to move to the top of the Super Middleweight division. Since the introduction of the Super Six competition Ward took the chance to show the boxing world what all the fuss was about toping the competition by beating both Mikkel Kessler and Allan Green in dominating fashion. This is one fighter I'm sure you will see towards the other end of this list come the end of 2011, that is something which you can rely on.
The way things are going, you may still be seeing Hopkins here until his fiftieth birthday, I'm joking of course but what is no joke is Hopkins the fighter. The man seems to resemble a fine wine which gets better with age. Victories over Kelly Pavlik, Antonio Tarver and Winky Wright has helped his standing in our list plus his avenged win over Roy jones Jr but becoming boxings oldest world champion and defeating the young Canadian Jean Pascal cemented his place.
A few years ago following his loss to Breidis Prescott many people would have questioned the future inclusion of Amir in a pound 4 pound list but since that time a lot as changed. The fighter you now see before you is a world champion who as beaten the likes Marco Antonio Barrera, the always tough Marcos Maidana and former world champion Zab Judah to match any of the current pound 4 pound inductee's resume. A future match up with Floyd Mayweather or Timothy Bradley could be on the cards with a win sure to catapult Amir up our list.
The Annihilation of Rafael Marquez was enough for me to keep Juanma on my list. We all knew before hand of his potential and his skill, but the way in which he stopped the Mexican was a scary reminder of how good this kid is. A match up with Yuriorkis Gamboa awaits in 2011 which is another obviously eye catching fight and one which is sure to bring more exposure to our sport which can only be good news |
Pound 4 Pound lists are always up for debate and can change from one person to another. This list is just our view at TopClassBoxing |
