I was 50/50 about putting Kubrat into my list mainly because of the stronghold that the Klitschko's have over the heavyweight division at the moment, aged 30 time is running out for the Bulgarian but I decided to include him because of the form showed in beating credible opponents in Matt Skelton, Dominick Guinn, Derric Rossy and Travis Walker......I believe Kubrat's best chance at this point in time would be against Alexander Povetkin who although is a very good fighter he is I feel beatable unlike the Ukraine brothers which would be his chance at owning a world title.
Lateef Kayode will be crowned a world cruiserweight champion in 2012. The division I feel is crying out for someone to take charge at the top and Lateef fits the bill. Under the guidance of perhaps the sports best trainer in Freddie Roach, the Nigerian has excelled with every test so far thrown at him and I see that trend continuing throughout this year.
Ismayl Sillakh is another fighter I feel will be world champion in 2012, I know your probably thinking that this is perhaps a bold statement for me to make especialy in a strong division but after following his career from day one, I honestly don't see any of the current crop giving the Ukraine fighter much in the way of problems. Ismayl does it all when it comes to that squared circle, blessed with good handspeed, knockout power a solid defence this kids talent knows no bounds.
Peter "Kid Chocolate" Quillin, another of Freddie Roach's pupils who like Lateef Kayode as upped his opposition quite significantly throughout 2011 which seen him hand defeats to both Jesse Brinkley and Craig McEwan to name a few.
Peter wasted no time at all last year in calling out the divisions ruler Sergio Martinez, the Argentinian has so far resisted the bait but a couple more wins and that could all change as Kid Chocolate closes in on a title shot.
I remember writing the name Demetrius "Boo Boo" Andrade in my notebook back in 2007 where at the time the American sensation took the world amateurs by storm. Even though Demetrius was of course a very gifted fighter throughout those ranks I always thought that his style was more suited for the professional ranks which has been backed up since his introduction with a 15-0 record. The young fighter from Rhode Island has quick hands a solid defence and enough power to match the divisions best, to be honest this was an easy pick to make. Next up for Demetrius is a title eliminator bout against Derek Ennis in February, which if he comes through with the "W" gives him his first shot at a world title.
I have included Mike in these types of lists for the last two years and although he has stayed on the edge of a world title shot he has never been given the green light, 2012 I predict will be different, we already know Mike is scheduled to fight in an eliminator for the IBF title early this year where a win would lead him to that title he so rightly craves.
Danny was my pick for prospect of the year for 2011 because of his impressive wins over former world champions Kendall Holt and Nate Campbell, this was a great showing from the Oxnard fighter and has given the more casual fight fan a look at the future of the Light Welterweight division. Danny is being well nurtured by his trainers and promoters who have matched him superbly, he has all the tools and the heart I believe to be a world champion which I envisage happening sometime towards the middle part of 2012.
Miguel's record shows that he has been very active since arriving on the professional stage in 2006 but with 27 fights under his belt aged just 24 I dont see this as a bad thing at all and will be to his advantage when it comes to a title push in 2012. The Oxnard fighter is already a force within the featherweight division and will no doubt be keeping a keen eye on the winner of Orlando Salido and Juan Manuel Lopez in the hope of securing that elusive world title shot.
Guillermo Rigondeaux is widely considered to be one of the greatest amateur fighters of all time where throughout that time he captured multiple awards including two olympic gold medals in 2000 and 2004. Guillermo is the most skilled from all the fighters on my list and could step out of the breakthrough category on the 20th January where he will pit his skills against Rico Ramos. Keep your eye on this Cuban sensation who is sure to be putting the banatamweight division on lock throughout 2012.
Throughout his early career, Leo was thought to be more of a boxer than a puncher and that inability to stop an opponent had many questioning whether he could make it all the way to a world title shot, that was obviously before the later part of 2009 where since thst time he has rattled off eight consecutive knockouts / stoppages against a good standard of opposition. Leo I feel is the future of the Super Flyweight division where I hope to see him land a world title shot somewhere throughout the later part of 2012
